Ok I'm not, I'm having a gallbladder/stone attack but bloody hell. All the sodding ouchies.

People say it's worse than childbirth. Not sure if I agree or not although childbirth never made me cry or crawl around on my bedroom floor.

Fuck off gallstones Sad

You have my sympathies.
I fear gallstones, I've had kidney stones three times.
Keep an eye on your temperature in case of infection. Hot bath, foetal position and drugs.

JustAPawn · 17/05/2015 21:30

Is it similar to kidney stones? because I've had those and they are most definitely more painful than childbirth. Hope you feel better soon OP Flowers

I found a really odd solution (warning I knew I had many small stones, not a large one) I used to walk very hard and brisk to shift them along. OK not pain relief but shorter duration.
All sympathy welsh, how distressing for you.
Unfortunately pain is not made any easier to get through moment to moment by thinking it could be worse. (In my experience of grief and gallstones).

CarbeDiem · 17/05/2015 21:40

Huge sympathies.
I did and still say it's worse than childbirth x 3

You and me both Button I still get it too although not often but I avoid high fat things like the plaque still and I had mine out in 2001.
My GP says it's becoming more common for people to report issues after removal. I've had investigations and they can't explain what causes it - they call it biliary colic. At first they thought it was a stent I'd had put in my bile duct had come undone - but nope! wasn't that.

I don't want to scare or worry people awaiting removal - I'd still go ahead with the removal but just wish I'd been warned it could happen.

Dowser · 17/05/2015 21:52

If the gall bladder is removed you can still get stones in your liver if you don't change your diet.

Begin each day with a glass of warm water with half a lemon squeezed in.

If you're having an attack try drinking some water with a good spoonful of Epsom salts

Eat lots of apples for the pectin. Supposed to help soften stones.

If all else fails google liver flush. They are not for the faint hearted but it does work. Ive done 7 and my daughter more.

ButtonBoo · 17/05/2015 21:52

Yes Carbe I actually had a loose stone after my op and ended up getting jaundice, pancreatitis and having to have a stent put in my pancreatic duct. So much for the day op!
I think I thought I might be able to return to 'normal' eating. But I'm finding I still have to watch what I eat. And take shed loads of Omeprazole!

ButtonBoo · 17/05/2015 21:57

That liver flush dowser looks full on. Like the boy about 'if you are afraid, do half' and 'if you are REALLY afraid, do a quarter'!

mowbraygirl · 17/05/2015 22:10

I sympathise with you I had two gallbladder attacks before having my gallbladder taken out and that is coming up to 48 years ago spent my 22nd birthday in hospital. I had the operation in Australia and in those days they liked to whip it out as quickly as possible believe from friends not so keen these days.

The pain was a lot worse than childbirth even DS's quick birth with no pain relief was a doddle compared to it is hard to describe how bad it is I was lucky and had a good Doctor and he gave me morphine injections which helped.

Thank goodness have never had any problems since the operation.

PinkParsnips · 17/05/2015 22:10

Have you tried Buscopan OP?

I used to find that helped when I had an attack. You have my total sympathy it's awful.

Must admit I was lulled into a false sense of security giving birth thinking I'd been through gallbladder pain but definitely found childbirth worse! Grin

I still get pain / bloating / poking pains where it used to be too! Driving me mad at the moment.

SunnyStriker · 17/05/2015 22:33

Sorry to hear of your loss welsh
I'm not being flippant and making jokes about dying. It's genuinely how I feel. But you are of course right. I am lucky I only have gallstones.
