I know it's too late but always use password protected USBs for this kind of information.

catzpyjamas · 11/05/2015 19:34

Where do you think you lost your purse?
Is there a password on the usb drive?

TheoriginalLEM · 11/05/2015 19:36

no password. was in a woodland carpark. dp has been back and looked. he has totally lost it with me

OP posts:
TheoriginalLEM · 11/05/2015 19:38

can we contact hmrc to get the password changed?

OP posts:
ChantenayCarrot · 11/05/2015 19:39

I would inform HMRC to be honest - they can at least make a note on his file.

catzpyjamas · 11/05/2015 19:40

Have you been back or just your DP? You may be better placed to check as you know where to look.
Have you checked down the side of car seats etc ?

catzpyjamas · 11/05/2015 19:41

Yes HMRC can change the password. If you have it recorded anywhere else you can log in and change it yourself.

MrsTerryPratchett · 11/05/2015 19:42

Have you reported the loss to the Police? Because if the purse is no longer where you lost it, someone presumably has it...

TheoriginalLEM · 11/05/2015 19:54

catz that is good to know. assuming can't change ni number

OP posts:
TheoriginalLEM · 11/05/2015 19:58

No I'm afraid not but definitely contact HMRC to let them know. Here's a link to their website:
online.hmrc.gov.uk/information/faqs/registration?faqid=eng.faq.employers.faq.faqcom028&affinitygroup=
Previously submitted online returns can be downloaded from the site afaik.

As far as your purse goes: check bins near where you lost it in case the finder took cash and dumped it. Check with local police, Gumtree and whiteboomerang etc.

Hope someone hands it in, my DS left his laptop in Weatherspoons on a Saturday night. Never expected to get it back but it was behind the counter waiting for him. There are nice people about, I have my fingers crossed for you.

catzpyjamas · 11/05/2015 20:05

Oh and you can report it here too:

Eish LEM, what a day! Very very unlikely anyone will look on the stick. As other people have said just change the password ASAP and have a Wine

TheoriginalLEM · 11/05/2015 20:32

my faith in human nature has been restored. someone handed it to the police and a very handsome young police officer has just knocked on my door to tell me they have it Wink

I lost my purse once without even realising. A delivery man noticed it in the road and bought it back to me. I almost kissed home when he did! I gave him a really nice bottle of champers to say thanks. Glad you got it back.

I have several USBs, as a supply teacher I might accidently leave one somewhere and don't want to have a problem retrieving it. have one for VI info that you don't carry around with you.
I also have an encrypted one.
