To not want to keep Gel nails on any longer

Another odd one I'm afraid, but you Mums always seem to talk sense and I always respect your opinions. I kind of think I know the answer and suspect that I'm going to reneging on a deal if want them taken off.

For those of you that don't know, I'm actually a very happily married guy, who crossdresses. My wife has recently taken a course on applying GEL nails and when she first started I obviously suggested that she practice on me. No problems there as she would take them off either the same or the following day.

She found a new brand that is somewhat cheaper than the OPI ones that she normally uses, and bought some to try. She did mine for me on Friday as I was going away for the weekend, on the condition that I keep them on until they start to peel or chip. This I thought would be 3-4 days, but apparently they could last for 7-10 days! Whilst I retired early and work isn't therefore a problem, having glittery raspberry-coloured nails for another week is!

I know it was a deal, but I guess I was just keen to have my nails done and didn't think to query how long they would last. Am I really being unreasonable to want them taken off????

I think this has to be the most unusual post by a long way.

Assuming it is a massive problem.
Take them off.

You can't go to work like that, unless you are a make up artist!

Why can't you keep them on if you don't work?
I think if the deal was that she would only do your nails if you tested them properly for her then you need to keep them on till they chip!

Oh no i picked mine off (i know you shouldn't) but it didnt really do any damage. Definitely get them taken off.

I'd take them off and ask her to re-do them in a neutral shade a-la French manicure without the tips. You can keep them on til they chip and you're both happy!

They'll last intact for 7/10 days (without chipping etc), but they will last a lot longer than that, if you don't physically take them off.

Could you ask your wife to remove these & get her to do them again with a neutral colour?

If you don't want raspberry glittery nails you don't want raspberry glitter nails. Take them off!

Do you have an obliging jack russell who might act as the gel nail model instead?

That's the problem themitch, she only bought 5 colours to test, all of which are rather strong colours.

I'm thinking you're right Shapebandit and don't want to appear selfish or ungrateful if I ask her to take them off.

As a compromise ask her to take them off and re do them a more neutral colour, or ask her to do your toe nails a bit more blingy.

--If you're local I'm willing to be a model for your wife.-- I'd love some glittery nails!

Yuk. I hope people who visit nail bars make sure the brush used to paint the polish on is new to them. If not fungal nails etc risk.. I was shocked when i had a french polish the day before my wedding. I removed it wedding night. The thought of what was lurking underneath was too much. Yuk!

Can she not test them on herself? If you aren't happy wearing them, take them off.

By the way, most of the cheaper ones don't last as long. i am speaking as someone whose Aunt does nails and has tried most of them out. I too am a gel nail guinea pig

londonrach : I'm not worried about the hygiene side of things as my wife using a sterilising solution for her cuticle pushers and always cleans her brushes after use on a client. I just think that having them on will restrict what I can do for the next few days!!!!

Im a formal nail tech so can help

First- use a nail file to buff across the nail, directly onto the gel. When it looks dull you need to soak a cotton pad in acetone then press it onto your nail. Then wrap the whole finger tip in foil.

Do this to all 10 and wait 20 mins, after you will be able to lightly scrape whatever is left on away

Anyone who is going to judge you for having brightly painted nails isn't worth knowing IMHO. If you want to keep them, then keep them. If you'd rather have a more subtle colour then just explain to your dw, she strikes me as the understanding sort x

How are bushes cleaned? Unless its in an sterliser its not clean. My one attempt to have my nails done shocked me! Take it just between your wife and you in which case not a problem. However if in a conservative type of work it could be a problem (wish they more open minded). As other suggest can she replace with french or can you blame it on teenager niece who used you an experiment. I know of several dads who go to work after weekend with polish on their nails... Bank holidays are worse...more time

oh sorry! And thank you! Ha. Just a shot in the dark but if is 'bluesky' gel colour then she needs to be very careful indeed because it is not covered by more insurers :)

What is the problem with keeping them on? Do you find it hard to do stuff as you're not used to them. I think you should try and put up with them, for the sake of market research!

As an aside, I hate the look of gel nails. I have never had them as I have good nails, but my friends do and I think they look fake and nasty.

Your hands so you choose when to take them off. She'll understand that surely?

I get bored of a nail colour after about 5 days personally. I think a lot of women do so she's being unreasonable if she expects you to keep them on for twice as long. Taking them off will be good practice for her too.

allbollocks: it is Bluesky that she's trying on me. Apparently she's checked her insurance and says she's ok, even though it's apparently Chinese.

I have no huge problem with keeping them on, apart from that I won't be comfortable doing my regular "guy" things. Apparently, that's what I agreed to :(
