I probably shouldn't have NC but I have. But I've noticed lately a great deal of threads that for one reason or another just seem odd. I know it's best to report a thread if in doubt but some threads either seem attention seeking or just down right improbable. This seems to be especially rife on AIBU. Am I alone in thinking this?

I just don't understand what motivates people to make up some of the shit they do. I can understand why serial fantasists web complicated fake lives for themselves that elicit sympathy or awe from people, but why some people make up their boring mundane shit I'll never know.

The PBP s aren't even very clever. They harp on about the same old topics, use the same spelling and syntax all the time and make the same grammatical errors.

Yes Orlando that's true.

GoStraightGoStraight · 28/04/2015 17:01

I don't think I've ever spotted someone dodgy and thought 'hmm, I bet that's the PBP so-and-so, very similar writing style.'

But then I usually miss all the bannings and the backstories that go with them anyway so I am blissfully unaware of what I should be looking out for. Some people on here seem to have been here forever and it's like they remember every single thing anyone ever said and do the jigsaw that leads them to report a suspected PBP. I just don't know how they can keep up with so many new people on this forum every week - they must spend their entire lives on here, cross referencing and analysing and reading every flipping post. Confused

There are some threads which seem highly unlikely. But there are also always on threads like this, people who say they posted genuine posts, and were called trolls. Some people do have awful things happen to them, that might sound unlikely, even if it is true.

ToadsJustFellFromTheSky · 28/04/2015 18:39

GoStraight I think some people are just better at spotting these things than others. I am crap at spotting trolls unless they're really obvious. But then again, I am gullible.

ToadsJustFellFromTheSky · 28/04/2015 18:50

There was a thread here a while ago that was deleted because HQ had some concerns about the OP. I didn't contribute to the thread but that was only because at the time I was convinced the OP was someone I knew IRL. The whole situation and details were so eerily similar.

I was a bit Confused when the thread was deleted but I did learn later that the OP was actually highly unlikely to be the person I know because of where they were at the time the thread was started and updated.

It was very odd though at the time. It was just so eerily similar. I did wonder if it was maybe someone she knows maybe taking the piss out of her somehow but that would just be weird. Just a coincidence probably.

Biscetti · 28/04/2015 18:54

Yep, loads of twats them about at the moment. Have spotted 3 PBPs. Reported one that I am 100% sure about (because they've bragged about it elsewhere), but MNHQ just trotted out the old 'we can't see anything to suggest it' crap. Even their username is a fucking giveaway.
