To think I have pneumonia?

I had it a while ago and this feels exactly the same.

I've got a fever, shivers, a productive cough that's bringing up brown gunk, my chest hurts like hell, I'm wheezing, my chest is crackling low down in my ribs, it hurts to breathe in and I feel dreadful - dizzy, exhausted, aching everywhere etc.

I saw the Nurse Practioner about a week ago when it was just a chest infection and she said it was a virus, but over the last 2 days the fever and chills have started and the phleghm has gone from green to brown (Sorry for the TMI)

DH is acting like I have a bit of a cold and not being overly sympathetic.

AIBU to think I've got pneumonia again and should I go back to the GP after the nurse said it was a virus a week ago? Can a virus turn into pneumonia or am I just being a big wuss and should suck it up?

you should get it checked out definitely. I would go to out of hours if I was as ill as you.

Brown phlegm? Yes go back to the GP. In fact maybe out of hours would be worth a call. Viruses can lead to pneumonia.

I'd seek medical help rather sooner than the GP on Monday, what out-of-hours care do you have available?

There a walk-in clinic about 40 minutes away. I might go there in the morning. I don't drive but DH might take me. I won't go tonight as it's in the stag-do-tastic seaside town near us and will be a nightmare this time of night. Plus I can't see DH taking me tonight. He might do in the morning.

OOH or even A&E depending how poorly you get. Don't mess about with serious chest infections. Things can get serious quite quickly.

Right - I will definately go to the walk-in first thing. DH has been making me feel like I'm making a fuss over nothing but I feel terrible. I can't even hear properly - my ears are all ringing and odd Confused

That sounds pneumonia like to me. Are you sure you're ok to wait till morning? Do you feel like you can get your breath ok?

I can breathe, except when a coughing fit strikes. It's just painful. I think I'll be ok till the morning. I'm going to have a hot bubble bath and then go to bed and then get seen first thing.

Actually I would go with A&E. They will want a chest x-ray if they suspect pneumonia.

Your DH is wrong. I urge you again to be seen tonight-I say this as someone who worked in respiratory medicine pre dcs-pneumonia really shouldn't be left unchecked

When you've had pneumonia in the past you have to be so careful - go to a&e and get yourself checked over please.

Sounds like pneumonia. Could you not get it checked out tonight?

Why doesn't your dp believe you when you tell him how ill you are?

Go to a&e (or call the NHS number and they might send someone out to assess you if it's bad enough). I think it might be good for you to stay in for a few days to avoid your I helpful husband.

Definitely get yourself seen tonight. I had pneumonia in October and was really ill with it. You sound like you need antibiotics immediately.

Please go tonight, DD was admitted to hospital with symptoms similar to yours, chest X-ray revealed pneumonia and a collapsed lung, which not wishing to scare you is easily treatable with the right care. Hope you start to feel better soon. X

Registered nurse advice here! Sounds like it may well be pneumonia ( which can be viral or bacterial ) and you should seek medical attention ASAP. The longer you leave it the worse it will be to get rid of. Hope you feel better soon! Had it myself once and it's foul!Flowers

I was fobbed off with 'just a chest infection' once, felt like death. Turned out to be pleurisy and pneumonia, almost did kill me. Go back, please don't let it get worse. Because of slow diagnosis, it took so much longer to recover.

Definitely go to out of hours gp or a&e. Dm had gp's tell her chest was clear and spent weeks getting worse until 111 sent her paramedic one evening as she became so ill. They bluelighted her and apparently by then she was dangerously I'll and spent a week in hospital.

Can you not get a taxi to A&E? They will fast track you past the drunks via triage system.

If you are determined to wait until tomorrow, rest but do so sitting up on a triangle of pillows, keep the atmosphere damp eg with a steamy kettle or pan of water.

But really you should seek medical help tonight, phone 999 for an ambulance, what is your temperature doing?
