Drink has been taken so apologies in advance. First world problem n all that but is it this pipe work shit?
Considering the whole room was being plastered anyway why couldn't he have buried the pipes in the wall?
What would you do?

It's a bit daft to bury them into a wall and plaster over them. If they were to leak then you'd have to dig them out to find the leak, which will make one hell of a mess. They can be boxed in if you don't want to see them though.

Just paint the pipes white and they'll look fine. I wouldn't expect a plumber to sink pipes to a towel warmer TBH.

Thanks for replying LafySybs. They are going to be boxed in but I always thought it was better for pipes to be completely unseen ... What about all the pipes that are under floorboards - sometimes they leak?

Extremely boring thread I know. X

No, I don't think it is shit. You can put hot pipes in floor spaces or wall cavities and whatnot, but you can't treat them like wires and just bury them in plaster. How do you think those pipes should have been buried?

Only one reply when I began typing - thanks to all. "He " is a very expensive plumber. The room was stripped right back to the brickwork. I didn't specify before he fitted towel rail that I wanted pipes buried because I thought it was a given.
Have told him I'm not happy but he fobbed me off "I thought they looked very neat ..."

very I'm really not happy with it. What's a polite, non-offensive but assertive way to say "I would like you to bury the pipes in the wall, please?" Then do I walk away or stand and listen to the utter bullshit he will come out with in response? X

They are neat. Paint them white or put the white sleeve you can buy on them. If you box them you won't be able to get to the valve anyway.

His mate the joiner has taken a WHOLE DAY to do about half a metre of boxing in on the other side. Surely it would be just as quick to bury the pipes?

I'm not a plumber..but I thought with wall mounted radiators the pipes went through the wall and fixed onto the bottom of the radiator. The pipes aren't usually tracked in the wall.

Howdoes in the kitchen the guy who fitted vertical radiator hacked into the plaster, tracked pipies into walk then brought them back out agai bro meet valve. Then it was plastered over.
Taking me ages to type on phone.

Pipes are never buried in the plaster. Putting them under floorboards is a completely different thing. You can easily take up floorboards.
Pipes are usually run along the skirting, and go through the walls between rooms. I think your problem is that the radiator is quite high up. They are usually placed much nearer the skirting, so there's not so much visible pipework.

Floorboards can be raised and put back OP. You don't want your pipes plastered in.

Mad differences between Ireland and the UK. Exposed pipework being one of them. Of course pipes can be hidden! All of my pipework in my pretty new house is either under the concrete floor, or coming down from the ceiling-behind the plaster.
Are leaking pipes a big thing in the UK?
On a separate note-Does anyone ever cover boilers in your kitchen? In Ireland it's common to disguise it as a kitchen cupboard. The cupbards are ventilated for safety.

We'll be burying pipes in the wall when we redo our bathroom.

If as you say everything was back to brick I'd consider this not very well thought out.

I think that is shit and the plumber is lazy. I've done up a number of houses and the towel rad pipes have been sunk into the plaster every time. Part of going back to brick and starting from scratch is not having boxing in. I would not be happy at all and I would insist on the popework being changed.

PS it's a stupid place to put the drainage valve.

Also, I can't enlarge the photo enough to see clearly but I think he's used the wrong type of thermostat fitting on the left so it looks even uglier.
