Weird mark on toddler's foot...

SoreArms · 10/04/2015 06:48

Can anyone shed any light on what this mark could be on my DD's foot? She's three. It came up overnight - it's not raised itchy or painful, but doesn't wash off. I'll get her to a Dr but just thought I'd see if anyone had any thoughts?

Verruca?

If it doesn't hurt I wouldn't worry too much.

WhereTheFuckIsMyFuckingCoat · 10/04/2015 07:00

That's really weird looking isn't it?! It either looks like a singe mark, or maybe even an ink stain? Sometimes when permanent marker ink separates it goes brown and can be a bummer to get off.

SoreArms · 10/04/2015 07:11

Singe mark was my first thought!! But it doesn't hurt her in the slightest and there's def been no opportunity for that to happen! It almost looks like a tobacco stain or something but ditto above. I also thought verruca - but didn't know if they were raised?

It doesn't look like a verruca and they wouldn't suddenly be there and that big overnight. It looks like something that will wash off tbh. Have you tried?

Doesn't wash off...I'll talk to her childminder about whether she's been barefoot anywhere, but I don't think she has. I shouldn't have googled as melanoma comes up

It looks like a fresh blood blister. She doesn't have to be barefoot to get one of those - she may simply have had something (e.g. pebble) enter her shoe.

If you watch it over the next few days, it will probably get darker in colour until it goes pretty much black (this is due to the blood drying out). You can either wait for it to grow out naturally (this can take some time, but less so given her age) or give it a few weeks and start gently clipping off any dry skin above it until you manage to cut it out. I wouldn't recommend the latter (even though that's what I do to my own blood blisters) as the risk of clipping off a bit too much skin goes higher and it may start to hurt her then.

Thanks guys!

melanomas don't come up overnight Grin

It looks like she's trodden on something and got a bruise/blood blister. As it's on harder skin area of foot it isn't painful and isn't coming up like a normal bruise.

LuluJakey1 · 10/04/2015 12:11

It looks exactly like what happens if you are barefoot on a beach and get a bit of coal tar on the bottom of your foot. It leaves a brown stain just like that. Have you tried a bit of nail varnish remover on a cotton bud?????

MaidOfStars · 10/04/2015 12:14

Nail polish remover!

MaidOfStars · 10/04/2015 12:14

Ah, cross-post, should read to the end!

BedAfterDark · 10/04/2015 12:25

I was also going to say that it looks like a tar stain - did she go to the beach yesterday?

Petradreaming · 10/04/2015 17:01

I have a similar but smaller mark on the Palm of my hand. It just appeared on day. Think it may be a small capillary leak, that just stayed. Doesn't hurt doesn't go away.

SoreArms · 10/04/2015 19:19

Thanks again Everybody - think we will keep an eye on it over the next few days and see whether it changes/goes away...Will report back!

It could be a tiny bit of fake tan that she has stepped in ? I had something like that after my sisters wedding. Plonked it on and then trod in aaccidena drop on the floor and had a huge splodge on my heel when I was tying sandals on the next morning.

SoreArms · 13/04/2015 18:47

Quick update - saw Gp today as although the foot spot looked like it had faded, she's also come out in a different blotchy rash all over. Dr diagnosed scarlet fever, but that's unrelated to weird foot spot, which Dr thinks is indeed a blood blister. Thanks again to you all for taking the time to reply ;and sorry to those whose replies I missed)

LippyPongstockings · 14/04/2015 11:20

Glad to hear that she's alright! Funnily enough, the blood blister may grow out even more quickly once she gets the post-scarlet fever skin peeling on her fingers/hands and toes/feet (tempted though you may be, let the skin peel off naturally - don't pull it off!!)

L1shwad3 · 05/10/2018 00:07

Did you ever find out what was wrong? My child has/had many skin rashes diagnosed as eczema n now has those exact same little bruises on her feet

MumCantwell · 06/11/2019 10:51

Hi, my 2 sons have just had this same spot! My 2 year old came up with 2 spots on his foot 2 weeks ago. It wouldn’t wash off, no pain etc like your case. After about a week it came to the surface and I could rub it off. My 3 year old has come home from childcare with the same spot on his foot today, can’t wash off no pain etc. I’ve googled and found your post (sorry it’s so many years ago) but did anything ever come of this in your case?

Joeysmama17 · 15/12/2019 22:50

My son has one of these marks for about a week now and today another one showed up. So now I’m a bit concerned

Ea491 · 20/03/2020 12:20

Hi, my daughter had the same thing pop up overnight. Did you ever find anything out? And we’re there any other symptoms associated? Sorry I know it was a while ago, just out of town and can’t get her to regular pediatrician timely

Luc1nda · 20/03/2020 12:39

couldn’t you have started a new thread? You’re going to get a tonne of Coronavirus- related replies to the Op and none to your own.

Ea491, did you find out what it was, my son has identical item on his foot, and was wondering also what it is
MrsJulia · 25/07/2020 13:30

Hello, I as well saw that this is an old thread but wanted to post anyways. My son came home from preschool also with one of these exact spots on his foot. Its fairly large considering he's 2.5 and hasn't had any trauma to his foot that we know of. Spot doesn't hurt or bother him. Can any previous moms on here reply what they found out?? Thanks so much! I'm probably going to start a new post as well so I can post his photo. This is beyond bizarre and I'm sure other mons would like to know what this is so I will keep you posted.
