raging with this doctor!!

dd aged 6 had an accident about 40 mins ago. She cut her leg on a jug which broke in the bath. I quickly rang my dad, threw some clothes on her and my dad drove us to the doctors because I had to hold her on my knee as she as still bleeding, crying etc. So we got to the doctors and there was a woman coming out as we went in, dd was wrapped in a blanket and towel with blood coming through. when I got to reception the nurse said the doctor had just left and wouldn't be back so I would have to wait until the out of hours service for the area opened in 30 mins, she looked at her leg and said he would probably need stiches, so i'm now waiting for out of hours to open but I could waiting a couple of hours to be seen. Luckily the bleeding has stopped and dd is watching tv happily but I am fuming.
This doctor is filling in for the local doctor who is on holidays, i'm just shocked she would walk past a child she could see was hurt, bleeding etc.

Sorry, but you don't know where she was off to or how many other house visits she had to do. Unlikely a gp would put in stitches, she'd have directed you to a&e. Hope you are seen soon.

i'm sorry your DD is injured, and she will be seen, just not yet

there are so many reasons the doctor you saw leaving was doing so, we cannot speculate as to what they might be

hope you're seen too swiftly, and her treatment is straightforwards

Why don't you go to A&E? An injury on a child especially that is bleeding that much is certainly "worthy".

Well, if she had finished work I guess that's fair enough, but then I personally wouldn't have walked past.

Maybe she had some other thing to deal with and knew the cut leg would get sorted just as well in OOH.

I get your upset, but has it occurred that she may have gad to leave then. Maybe to say, pick her own kids up? Or be at another surgery to provide out of hours care?

Is there reason you haven't gone to a&e?

Do you have a minor injuries clinic nearby? They would be a more appropriate service to use. The dr could have been on her way to a house call or something. She must have figured it wasn't that urgent or you'd have gone straight to A and E.

It sounds like a horrible situation but I think your anger is misplaced.

You should have gone straight to A&E!
The GP isn't the place to go with an accident or an emergency...

I hope your Dd gets sorted soon but it isn't the GP's fault

Is there a minor injuries unit near you? I had a similar incident with DD, she bit through her tongue poor thing, i took her, screaming to the drs opposite the play centre and was told they had no minor injuries facilities so to take her to Minor injuries. The receptionist really should have sent you there if she needs stitching as OOH's wont be able to do it, they may just stick it together with their magic glue. So the receptionists fault not the Dr i reckon.

Uis there only one dr at your surgery? If not then the dr might have thought your dd would be seen by a colleague. This sounds more like a+e though (I know we are always telling people not to go there!) but it was an accident

Is it a gp surgery? Can they put in stitches? I'd double check that with the receptionist personally.

You might be better off going straight to a and e or an urgent care centre of you have one. It would have been nice for the Dr to stop and offer some advice a quick dressing, but she may have thought the receptionist or other member of staff would redirect you appropriately.

They don't do home visits for minor things so it's completely possible that where she had to be really was more urgent medically than your daughters leg.

I agree with other posters YABU I wouldn't of went to my GP practice I would have went to minor injuries or A+E

You have no idea where the doctor was going.
You could've gone to A&E or a walk in centre rather than rocking up at the surgery at closing time, on the off-chance of being able to get an appointment.
I'm sorry your daughter is hurt but I don't think your being "fuming" with the doctor is warranted.

I hope your DD gets seen soon and is ok. I think YABU but it's hard to be reasonable when your child is hurt. I think for this kind of injury a walk in centre or A and E is your best bet. As other's have said the GP could have been going out on home visits or she could have had commitments in her own life that she needed to get to.

In my house my anger would be directed at whoever left a breakable (presumably glass?) Jug in the bath rather than a busy doctor.

If it needs stitches then the gp probably won't do them anyway.
