To not realise Easter egg's for teachers was a thing?

Just in the shop and heard a mum from our school call excitedly "Lets go choose all the teachers their Easter eggs!".

DD1 is in reception.
I have not purchased eggs
I did not realise this was a thing?
Have I made some huge parental mistake?!

It's not a thing unless you want it to be - same with end of year prezzies etc. I have never bought a teacher an Easter egg and I am happy with my choice.

Oh dear me too. Been a parent of school age kids for 20 years and never heard of this! Small gift at Christmas and a card yes but Easter eggs are for kids in my house.

You assumed it was a 'thing' due to overhearing one mother?

In my 20 years as a 'school Mum' (god that makes me feel old), some people have bought eggs for teachers and just as many haven't.

Same as when I was at school really, so no I don't think it's a thing you should feel you need to be doing.

Giving gifts to teachers is not a thing in our house. Ever. They're paid to do a job. And it always turns into who can get the biggest gift competition!

I have just received my first ever Easter egg from a child, it's also the first year that I haven't bought all my class one. Resisting the urge to rush out and buy 28 now.

I've never done that. I do buy them something small for Christmas and at the end of the school year but Easter eggs are for family only

I have never heard of it. As a secondary teacher, we don't get many gifts, but this is just odd and too much.

Not even in Wales? Its not a welsh thing? I'm not from here and it was never a Yorkshire thing, but then we are a little frugal up our way.

You are sure I'm not going to go into school to my DD like and be the parent who didn't proffer chocolate to her teacher in an Easter extravaganza of cocoa overdose?

Never heard of this. We get teachers Xmas and end of year presents but it wouldn't have occurred to me to get them Easter eggs.

My mum who was a primary teacher, albeit 20 years ago (but presses for teachers at end of term was already popular) used to be quite caustic (in private) about pressies. She was grateful to their faces, but didn't think any less of families who did not do gifts. She also made the point that she got paid a salary and did not need a present. Some of the items she received were quite ghastly too. I expect charity shops must do well at certain times of the year from teachers having a clear out. We never gave presents to our teachers either. Unsurprisingly.

I really can't imagine any teacher would be genuinly delighted to be faced with thirty Easter eggs! Even for a chocoholic that would be an overwhelming amount of chocolate!

I have an 8 year old son and 4 year old daughter, i have once given teacher a present as what the f* else was i going to do with all this christmas crafting my daughter produced, great idea gift it to people :)

I won't be buying Easter Eggs for the Nursery School Teachers.
There's 6 working there in total and our finances, as they are this year, don't stretch to buying eggs for the masses of Nieces, Nephews and Cousins in our family, let alone anyone else.

In 5 year's of being a school parent, I have seen this done by one parent/child, once. I judged the parent as a loon. Who would want 30 Easter eggs ? Me that's who. I'd eat them.

Not an egg but I was given a box of chocolates today , TA in a reception class.

Its not a thing - or it wasn't until recently.
My Sister has just returned to teaching and worked as a supply teacher in the Autumn term for about six weeks leading up to Christmas, at the end of term she was presented with huge boxes of chocolates from just about every child in the class (30 kids) I mean those big flat boxes that are about 12 by 16 inches in size. It was ridiculous. She couldn't share amongst other staff as they all had similar. She doesn't eat chocolates (IBS, special diet) she ended up giving them away to charity things to make hampers etc for people. It is totally daft - no one wants thirty boxes of chocs/ easter eggs etc.

Am sure if you want to give something the teacher would much prefer a card from DC thanking them for being a nice teacher (if they are a nice teacher). Teacher will have no idea who has given anything or not - she will just be thinking 'how the hell do I fit all these easter eggs in my car'

How many kids are in each class? If you all bought them eggs they'd have enough chocolate to last them until next year!

Been a teacher for 30 years. Very rarely get Easter eggs (thank goodness!).Have had the occasional bunch of flowers. Save your gifts for the unpaid volunteers in your children's lives-football coaches. youth leaders and the like.
