When they first came out they were brilliant, easy eating out, varsity of tasty enough food, the fun of going to the salad bar ( as a child) the sources ( which I loved).

I went to one a few years ago and it was beyond neglected, food took hours, cold, rubbish, swamped with dirty plates all round us, and a few others have awful reps round us.

Thinking of cheap, easy place to take DC, they also used to do early bird which was brilliant.

There is nothing now is there!

The one near me is lovely. Not helpful!

TheGirlFromIpanema · 23/03/2015 19:54

I love our local one, and we went to another one for xmas dinner too Shock

Heathens that we are...

Tbf I don't recognise the things you mention at all so it must be luck of location/staff etc.

BuggerLumpsAnnoyed · 23/03/2015 19:55

The one near my parents house in Surrey where I went as a child is still amazing. Went to one by my nana's in Glasgow and it was beyond manky. I think they're all different

noitsachicken · 23/03/2015 19:55

The harvesters by us is great!
Food is always nice, good selection, menu regularly changed and updated.
It's not gourmet cuisine, but never had a bad meal there. Perfect for families.

iklboo · 23/03/2015 19:56

The one near us is still nice. Pricier than it used to be, but still reasonable enough for the three of us to eat out.

TheJiminyConjecture · 23/03/2015 19:56

Our local one is lovely Grin

improbablesaint · 23/03/2015 19:58

lol at Sources

FFSletmechangemyname · 23/03/2015 19:58

I'm Envy of all these people who still have nice harvesters, ours is rubbish ConfusedConfused

improbablesaint · 23/03/2015 19:59

I prefer table table for family type every day meals. Amazing reward points too.

NeedsAsockamnesty · 23/03/2015 20:00

The harvester near me is great. Never had a problem with it and they have thrown out an entire table of prats who were ridiculing one of my kids because of the noises he makes

ChaosTrulyReigns · 23/03/2015 20:08

Ours is awful. They tried to offer me vouchers after a bad meal a couple of years ago, and were agog when I declined. Never eating there again.

Their FB page is quite enlightening. About 90% woe abd the rest positive.

I thought most of them got franchised out, once the buisiness was built up, farmed out and un loved.

Great to hear many can still access one, thats good Grin.

All ours are totally crap though.

whats table table?

We have a brand new one near us. It's complete and utter shit.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 23/03/2015 20:16

CAnt fault the one where I'm from.

ohdearitshappeningtome · 23/03/2015 20:17

You have an opinion that's a few years out of date!

Perhaps you should go back and reasses!

MrsAidanTurner · 23/03/2015 20:23

yes, maybe I should but not round my way, I feel its a right of passage for dc to go up the salad bar and choose for themselves Grin

improbablesaint · 23/03/2015 20:26

its Greene King afaik - often attached to a premier inn. THey do limitless fizzy drinks and lots of offers

southbucks77 · 23/03/2015 20:33

We have quite a few within easy distance:

High Wycombe - our favourite (we go quite often) - food and waiters are very good but the management is awful. He doesn't seem to be able to organise the tables in busy periods. We went on Saturday, were told it was a 30min wait so nearly left but actually got seated in 5 mins. When we went upstairs it was empty.

Loudwater - service ok but food quality poor

Windsor Racecourse - food ok, service is shocking, even my dd (5yrs) always says she doesn't want to go to that one. We have been given food vouchers twice from experiences here - we use them at the HW branch!

Old Windsor - good, just a bit out of our way

Taplow - ok, food quality and service not as good as HW

Slough - not tried it

We love Harvester but we have definitely discovered which ones we like and which ones we don't. It's worth travelling further to the HW one.

Janethegirl · 23/03/2015 20:35

The local one here is ok too.

DarthVadersTailor · 23/03/2015 20:37

The ones in Milton Keynes are awesome!

ZenNudist · 23/03/2015 20:37

I enjoy food at the one we go to with ILs. It's basic and much frozen / microwave food, but quick and tasty. I prefer it to table table (which we also go to sometimes) and dislike brewers fayre.

I never would have gone to these kind of chains five years ago but now with dc somewhere that gets you seated and served fast with reasonable variety kids menu is much more attractive. Plus the price means you can go and not give a hoot. Whereas the supposedly better quality places can burn a hole in your pocket.

Anyone ever been to a hungry horse? What's that like?

AnnieMoor · 23/03/2015 20:38

I have never been, but my sil worked in one as a student and always says she'd rather starve than eat in a Harvester!

AnyFucker · 23/03/2015 20:40

Ours is great. The kids always choose to eat there for their birthdays. It's been done up recently so even looks fairly easy on the eye these days.

AnnieMoor · 23/03/2015 20:43

I just looked up the menu out of curiosity. It has the calorie content of the dishes.

Definitely not a place for dieters!

MrsGrimes · 23/03/2015 20:43

I find the quality and service not only varies from branch to branch, but they can also be very inconsistent within the same branch. Had a lovely meal recently and the staff were very attentive and really helpful in regards to seating my disabled DM. But I've been to that branch twice before and service has been non-existant apart from giving us a glass for our refills and the food poor. There's another one near us which is always shit. Food is rubbish, service is awful, like the customer is inconveniencing the staff by being there, and the place is in a major need of a refurb. My friend actually refuses to use the toilets there and will wait until she's home because they're so disgusting.
