To think someone should make a WWII film

but set in the present day?

These glasses of Kate Winslet's (in Enigma) are really distracting.

I'm sure it could be done. There's plenty of precedent for drama featuring historical events but set in a different time period. I just can't think of any of them right now...

Has someone been at the sherry? Grin

I'm right though; I'm sure of it. Grin

RJnomore · 15/03/2015 00:44

Emmmm how would this work exactly?

Alisvolatpropiis · 15/03/2015 00:45

Are you thinking of "brought up to date" Shakespeare eg 10 Things I Hate About You being a modern day Taming of Shrew and that kind of thing rather than actual proper historical events?

BOFster · 15/03/2015 00:46

I think you're onto something there..

FatCunt · 15/03/2015 00:48

Maybe Alis Blush

While we're on Shakespeare, though, didn't he write some history plays that felt awfully like 16th(?) century England?

You'd have to get rid of the internet, and mobile phones, for story purposes. Maybe say the Russians knocked out all the modern communications. You couldn't have it any other way. And Churchill would be a Candy Crush addict anyway.

If Kafka can imagine a man waking up as a beetle, then surely someone could write a suspend-your-disbelief exciting account of transposing this generation into a WWII scenario.

They'd be fucked Grin

BOFster · 15/03/2015 00:53

I'm thinking of a weird time-slip thing.

IrmaGuard · 15/03/2015 00:56

Aren't the majority of Shakespeare's plays presented as 'plays' though? You know, they often have a narrator and refer to the players, rather than modern films which require the suspension of belief.

Arsenic · 15/03/2015 00:56

But....

FatCunt · 15/03/2015 00:56

YES BOF. That would be awesome Grin

Kafka ain't got nothing on me. I once had a dream in which I was a USB flash drive and having kinky USB sex with other USBs I wasn't supposed to be having sex with.

OP posts:
Arsenic · 15/03/2015 01:00

It would need to be a different war.

With different tech. And different codes etc.

So it wouldn't be set at Bletchley.

So you'd just be nicking the essence of the plot? Which is fictional anyway in Enigma

Like the way House is supposedly Sherlock Holmes ^transposed6 to a modern US hospital? That kind of thing?

Arsenic · 15/03/2015 01:01

I once had a dream in which I was a USB flash drive and having kinky USB sex with other USBs I wasn't supposed to be having sex with.

Gay USB sex? Shock Grin

BOFster · 15/03/2015 01:03

Ooh, I've just been talking to DP about this idea, and he's remembered a film along these lines- look!

It certainly doesn't mean it couldn't be imagined in a different way though.

I'm quite intrigued...

FatCunt · 15/03/2015 01:06

That sort of thing, Arsenic. As accurate as possible given the constraints, though, if possible. But why couldn't it be set at Bletchley? If they can make GTAV In Edinburgh surely we can house all our skilled haxxors in Bletchley Park? Grin

And yeah Enigma was... not good.

OP posts:
FatCunt · 15/03/2015 01:08

Is that a WWII film in disguise Bof?

OP posts:
Arsenic · 15/03/2015 01:08

Yes I'm getting it now sobering up

GTAV?

That film is intruging BOF

FatCunt · 15/03/2015 01:09

Oops. Sorry. Grand Theft Auto Five. The main studio in charge of making it is Scottish.

OP posts:
Arsenic · 15/03/2015 01:11

They certainly don't mind film crews at B park.

Arsenic · 15/03/2015 01:19

That one BOf linked to was adaprom a young adult novel. Really good way of making history relevant/digestable/immediate.

FatCunt · 15/03/2015 01:22

I read the IMDb listing but couldnt make much sense of it, as my comprehension is impaired at the moment for some reason. Ahem. Thanks for the help Grin
