To think someone should make a WWII film

but set in the present day?

These glasses of Kate Winslet's (in Enigma) are really distracting.

I'm sure it could be done. There's plenty of precedent for drama featuring historical events but set in a different time period. I just can't think of any of them right now...

That novel series could be due a revival about now, from the sound of it - I wonder what Hunger Games fans would make of it Grin

The point though, surely, is that there are hundreds of WWII stories that could be told with the time slip device. You can use any amount of unexplained magic you like, as long as you have the characters react to it all honestly.

FatCunt · 15/03/2015 01:38

I wonder if Nazis would use YouTube.

The DVD is £2.18 on Amazon Shock

Book is still in print and is £5.99 Smile

Read into that what you will.

Lord Haw Haw so would.

So would the resistance.

I'm watching a Netflix movie right now called The Invisible. It's about a teenager who gets murdered and wakes up invisible. When that appends, he's back in school wondering why his teachers are ignoring him. It doesn't waste time on making it plausible or explaining molecular shite.

BOFster · 15/03/2015 01:41

*happens

And he can still fling his killer off a roof, yet turn around and find them still there, oblivious.

So it doesn't even have to have a linea logic. It just has to make emotional sense.

BOFster · 15/03/2015 01:44

*linear.

Linea sounds like a brand of sanitary towels. Excuse typos.

Good point. We don't need hard SF, "they entered the third left auxiliary exhaust port maintenance shaft, and paused for breath. And now let me, the author, spend three pages describing the inner workings of the propulsion system" levels of explanation.

Soft sci-fi needs its own name really. Time travellers wife was fabulous.

FatCunt · 15/03/2015 01:47

And even yet, you're doing better than me with your viewing choice - I've got TOTP from 1980 on.

Try Red Dawn, both the original and the remake.
