CLOMID

Kimdarling · 02/03/2015 20:45

Hey everyone, I am very new to this page, and don't know if anyone will even be able to read this! but here goes..

Me and my other half have been ttc for 5 years. I have pcos, I have since I was 14/15 and I'm now 23 my tubes are all fine and health wise I'm doing good other than the common side effects to PCOS such as unwanted hair, over weight, mood swings etc .. Anyway me and my other half are on our first round of clomid the doctor has finally done something! we have been left for so long with no help .. Even though we are finally on the right tracks I feel very disheartened every month and my motivation gets weaker and weaker when I see that dreaded negative test!
I'm on 50mg of clomid from day 2-6 of my cycle and had wonderful news on it actually making me ovulate I had a score of 34 if that makes any sense.. I'm feeling all the symptoms however I don't trust them until I see that "positive" I get symptoms every month (phantom pregnancy). Is anyone else going through the same? Does any have any success stories? .. I know I sound all doom and gloom just a bit fed up and need to hear some positive stories.
Thank you to anyone who reads this and I hope if anyone else out there is feeling like me they can find their answers and get their wishes for a baby!

What does score 34 actually mean? Is it the higher the better would I not get pregnant on that score?

Glad to see that clomid has worked its magic on many of you x

the progesterone level of 34 means it is likely that you ovulated on that cycle

it is of course no guarantee of getting pregnant as there are other factors at play too

going through my treatments, my progesterone tests were consistently less than 2, indicating no ovulation at all

when I was put on Clomid, it took a while and a couple of miscarriages, but eventually it was successful when my progesterone levls were 28+

however, my experience was all 20 years ago and there are more specific tests that can give you info about the quality of the ovulation etc

the board linked to above would give you much more up to date advice, those women are awesome (unfortunately gaining that knowledge by having problems conceiving)

when I was going through it I was somewhat of an expert too Smile

Rjae · 03/03/2015 10:43

It made me feel quite peculiar but actually kick started my own ovaries into producing eggs and I have 2 DCs. I think I was suffering from mild anorexia which had suppressed ovulation.

kwerty · 03/03/2015 11:38

I have Clomid twins too; now 28! I don't remember any side effects but was a miserable, anxious mess anyway as I had worried myself into a state. Good Luck!

Kimdarling · 03/03/2015 12:02

Yeah I started naturally on a score of 2 then this is my first month and i have a score of 34 it's gone up a lot so I'm feeling optimistic about it :)

So sorry to hear your news. You mentioned weight in passing - I know it's difficult but losing 10% of your body weight does sometimes kick start ovulation so that might be something to focus on, good luck for the future.

Kimdarling · 04/03/2015 16:58

More than determined now to go that! :) x

Thank you for this thread OP. I am day 22 after my first round of clomid. Pcos here too. Been trying for almost 2 years. My cycles vary but are generally 90 days ish.
Clomid is an awful medication. I am not usually a feeble, teary type person but I have done nothing but feel down and cry intermittently since I took it. Sticking with it though because I know how well it works for some people. Am also working on the weight.

Definately agree that this is something that is so hidden when it shouldn't be. And I'm glad there are so many positive stories on this thread.

Chin up OP, at least you have a starting point and your day 21 results were really good Flowers

Kimdarling · 05/03/2015 02:06

Good luck to you!
Were your 21 day results good too?
Trying to loose weight but I don't know about you all I want to eat is sugar sugar sugar and I get bad hunger pains until I eat it lol it's weird normally I have strong will power I lost 3 stone last year now I can't even loose 3 lbs x

I have clomid twins born 11 years ago. Took 6 months on it to conceive but got there in the end. Also have a non clomid dd, born nearly 4 years ago!

Kimdarling · 06/03/2015 02:13

I'm late on my period was due 2 days ago do you think I've tested to early thats why I got a negative or should I just let go and try anouther month. Keeping getting into depressive moments you'd think I would be used to negative tests by now after 5 years x

I conceived on my second round of clomid. My previous day 21 tests were 11 and they shot up after using clomid. The day 21 tests measure progesterone which is produced after ovulation and peaks 7 days afterwards (hence they test on day 21 as during a healthy cycle you ovulate on or around day 14). I was told by my fertility nurse that they like a score of over 30 to show ovulation has occurred so it definitely sounds like clomid is working for you. I'm sorry that you had a negative test. Yes maybe try again but usually you will get a positive test on the day your period is due.
I second what Jessie says about looking at the conception boards, you will find loads of information and people in the same position wanting to chat.

My clomid baby is snoozing in my arms - 4 weeks old. Try taking clomid at night. You will sleep through most side effects although I hope you get your bfp and dont need anymore! I also have pcos i averaged a period every 11 months! Good luck x

Kimdarling · 06/03/2015 12:19

Thanks everyone :) I'll have to try again then by the sounds of it I find it on the day of my missed period according to period tracker however I'm never regular so I don't know if I got it on the right day I'm gonna leave until next wed-fri if still negative then I'll ask doc for provera again x

Im due to start my first round of clomid In two weeks, very excited just hope it works! How are you getting on kimdarling? X

maggiethemagpie · 24/05/2015 21:34

I had a clomid baby. I also completely cut out all sugars and carbs (atkins diet, basically) as I had heard this could interfere with ovulation. It worked on month 3!

somewhatavoidant · 24/05/2015 21:44

Of all the meds I took (4 x IUIs +2 x IVFs) Clomid had the worst side effects on my moods making me very teary & emotional. It's a tough road OP, you might need to prepare yourself for a long journey. Mine took 5 years finally resulting in my beautiful ds. Best of luck to you!

Fadingawayagain · 21/03/2019 09:57

I know this is w very old thread and don’t except a response but was just wondering, did the chlomid end up working for you? X

user1488464056 · 21/03/2019 10:23

My second son is a Clomid baby, he's 31 this week. Reading your post took me right back to those tough six years of trying to concieve. Hang on in there.

user1488464056 · 21/03/2019 10:24

Bollocks ....... zombie thread. Hope there was a happy ending.

Doyouneedthetoilet · 21/03/2019 11:27

My soon to be 8 year old was a Clomid baby, it took about 3 months to get pregnant whilst on it. I also used a fertility monitor as a bit of extra help. Clomid unfortunately didn't work when I tried to get pregnant again so ended up having ovarian drilling done, after a few months I luckily managed to get pregnant again. Just hold on in there, try not to get too stressed about it.
