I had one last weekend and had to go to work with it.

Amazing how debilitating they are.

Drink ginger tea.

Brew
WorraLiberty · 28/02/2015 12:32

Are you sure it's not gender confused man flu? Grin

NobodyLivesHere · 28/02/2015 12:33

Yanbu. You cant claim illness and sleep all day, because you aren't sick enough, yet you are sick enough to feel lousy. Honey and lemon xx

efe · 28/02/2015 12:33

Yes! Not ill enough to take to bed, but still feel really crap Sad

bette06 · 28/02/2015 12:52

YANBU - Especially if you can't sleep because you're too bunged up/snotty or coughing constantly. I had one recently and was literally awake all night - I was like the living dead the next day as I was exhausted and still feeling rough but obviously you can't call in sick or get any sympathy because it's 'just a cold'.

The other part I really hate is when your nose is like a constantly dripping tap. You can't do anything that involves two hands because one hand has to be constantly holding a tissue to your nose. Somebody needs to invent some kind of snot-catching nosebag that can be worn in these situations!

MorrisZapp · 28/02/2015 12:58

Oh Christ yes. When you get itchy inner ears and unreachable throaty bits. And you look like Timothy Spall. And you can't get warm. And you can't taste food. And you can't think because your brain has turned to cotton wool.

And some clown tells you it's only a cold. Sure, it's not life threatening but for the duration of it, it is life ruining.

Ijustworemytrenchcoat · 28/02/2015 13:03

They really are. You just feel (and look) like shit, but you feel it's taking the piss to not go to work.

Blocked sinuses and an awful tonsillitis pain today. Lovely.

Claybury · 28/02/2015 13:04

Just got over a mild 4 day sniffle. Can't believe how much fuss i made about it to myself
I'm not even male!!

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 28/02/2015 13:09

snot-catching nosebag

Genius. Grin

Worra, it is indeed woman flu and it's not fair.

Having said that, at least these days I don't have any tiny cold-ridden children to deal with while I suffer struggle bravely on. I could take to my bed if I wanted, and I may do just that if there are no decent old films on the box this afternoon. There are some compensations to getting older!

Ginger tea, you say? I have an old, shrivelled bit of ginger root in the fridge and an awful lot of lemons. Would I just infuse them in boiling water with a bit of honey?

snot-catching nosebag

Surely I can't be the only one who sports the Tissue Walrus Tusks in Nostrils look at the dripping point in a cold? In the privacy of my own home only, obviously.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 28/02/2015 13:15

No, SoupDragon, you are not.

SoupDragon · 28/02/2015 13:18

It is such a good look :)

GothicRainbow · 28/02/2015 13:18

I had this last week along with my mini-snot monster DS. Not poorly enough to insist my DH work from home to help me but still feeling totally crap. The bastard thing even set of my vertigo so had an interesting couple of days trying not to fall on my DS and not being able to drive anywhere.

GothicRainbow · 28/02/2015 13:20

I think ive just found the answer!

To feel that a mild cold is the work of the devil?
AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 28/02/2015 13:42

Oh yes. Where can I get one?

OP posts:
GothicRainbow · 28/02/2015 13:50

I have no idea, but I reckon a strong piece of knicker elastic and a sturdy toilet roll holder should do the trick!

RustyBear · 28/02/2015 13:58

Me too. Feeling restless but lethargic, can't get the energy to do anything but can't get comfortable enough to just rest either.

Vole3 · 28/02/2015 14:12

I look forward to being able to sleep and breathe without being propped up by 4 pillows.

Bogeyface · 28/02/2015 14:16

Colds are awful imo.

You are not ill enough to stay in bed and feel sorry for yourself, but it is debilitating enough that it makes everything just that bit harder.

And if you dare to complain your get "Oh its just a cold FFS!" usually from the person you know who makes the biggest fuss when they are ill!

I do think that colds are never acknowledged as being a truly shit as they are, despite us all getting them and us all suffering!

I have one too at the mo, can you tell?

IrenetheQuaint · 28/02/2015 14:16

I feel your pain.

= the disgusting sound of me trying to scratch my inner ears with my tongue

SuperFlyHigh · 28/02/2015 14:25

If it's a bad cold and I've been suffering for a week (and had a shit week) sometimes I'll go off early from work..... They are the Devils work though especially if you travel by public transport and get asthma like me which makes you prone to more colds apparently.

threepiecesuite · 28/02/2015 15:26

At the end of a cold, I always swear I'll never take for granted having an unblocked nose ever again.

ClashCityRocker · 28/02/2015 15:31

Also sat sniffling in my pjs.

Colds are shit. I don't care what anyone says, I'm feeling sorry for myself.

DH has a sniffle, and keeps telling me 'you don't hear me complaining'. I may LTB.

SuperFlyHigh · 28/02/2015 17:18

clash that's not very nice of your DH. Remind him of his lack of sympathy next time he gets man flu!

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 28/02/2015 17:53

Credit where it's due, my family are being extremely nice to me and very sympathetic. Quite right too.
