thinking two men walking abreast would move for a ladee

Or anyone really, I suppose. Walking today on a path to the hospital tiny violin and they just didnt, I was PUSHED ( gasp) to the side as they careered on through.

I never expect men to give way to me because I am a woman, but because they are being courteous to me as a human being.

YANBU to think that two people walking the other way were rude not to make space for you on a narrow path.

YABU to make it a "men vs ladee" ishoo.

Just basic manners isn't it?

Drives me mad when mum, dad and toddler all have to hold hands when walking, forcing me into the road. Holding hands is lovely, but have the sense to break for a few seconds when other pedestrians are around.

Wow, that sounds meant, doesn't it? I don't care that much. Honest.

Men don't make way for women (except possibly young attractive women). I've tested this theory out many a time, and it's true. Women sort of instinctively move to one side when they are headed straight at a man coming in the opposite direction. The man just ploughs on. If you, the woman, don't move aside, you will collide. Just try it.

Anyway, technique for making people move to one side that works for me 8/10 times. Don't make a hint of eye contact or even direct your head towards them; look into the middle distance behind the edge of their shoulders.

I once challenged a young man when he failed to move aside on a very narrow pavement, and I was very heavily laden with big rucksack etc. He said "It's my right not to move".

People walking abreast in limited space drives me bonkers. DH and I were walking home the other night and three women were storming along the path towards us, arms linked, taking up the whole path and making it clear they expected us to jump into the road out of their way.

Wretches.

I usually avoid this by passing oncoming walkers on whichever side the building/hedge/etc is, rather than the road side. That way they are kind of forced to split up or give way, since there is nowhere for me to go. Usually works just fine.

I don't dodge from side to side on busy pavements and more often than not people seem to move out of my way.

DH often holds my hand because I am rather wobbly on my feet, (disabled and likely to fall over and embarrass us both otherwise). People often comment on how loved up and sweet we are, holding hands. Hmm

Many people are not very observant.

I think that any group of people that takes up the full width of the pavement without good reason is just plain rude. It's taken me a few years to get the message through to a particular group of school mums that I wasn't willing to walk DS2 on the road so they could walk 3 abreast and chatter.

Really fecking rude if you're two or more people walking abreast and you don't separate for a few seconds to let one person pass.

I fix people with a hard stare and keep tramping. They usually see sense and move. I tried it with a gang of yoots a while ago and one of them did not give ground. He looked as though he was going to come after me (he muttered as we bashed shoulders because he wouldn't walk behind or in front of his mate for a minute) and I said 'Well, you walked into me, why should I move?'). His friend had to grab his arm. I was a bit scared but, if i"m honest, it was outweighed by a feeling of triumph.

It's not a gender thing though, just a general common decency thing.
