Kate Middleton- copying her clothes, srsly who does that?

Disclaimer: Canadian here, but lived in UK for several years a while ago.

So flipping through tabloids, or net-surfing, I come across these articles absolutely raving over Kate Middleton's style. Apparently whoever makes whatever she wears immediately becomes inundated with orders, their websites crash, their shops are mobbed etc.

Seriously? Who does that? irl I have never met one woman who actually says- oh wow, I need to have that pink coat or spotted blue dress or whatever she's wearing and rush out and buy it. And I know some women who are really heavy shoppers. I really don't get the appeal of her style, and I don't understand why anyone would copy it. I mean, Kate Moss a few years ago, yes. Nowadays I am watching the Good Wife on netflix, and oh my god Diane Lockhart's outfits, yes, yes. Kate Middleton? Do you actually know any women who rush out and mob the shops for the same dress she's been snapped wearing?

Nope. I've never met anyone who does this. It has been a line regularly trotted out by the tabloids since Diana came onto the scene back in early 1981.

I have wondered whether it might be urban myth to be honest.

Items she wear do seem to instantly sell out but I'm not sure where these people are either who are desperate to find out which pair of nude heels Kate's wearing or which Breton top or which evening gown. Maybe it's a guilty secret thing, people who in their day to day life dress like Goths/hipsters/harajuku girls have a secret life where behind the safety of drawn curtains they like nothing more than to dress up like a well bred gel from Berkshire.

It's the same with her son as well. Apparently baby/toddler clothes shops sell out whatever he's been wearing lately. I don't recall, though, seeing any toddler boys dressed like a 1950's Little Golden Book illustration of late.

I was just thinking this the other day when I saw yet another article on 'Kate's style'.... She just dresses middle aged IMO. And I can't see why anyone would buy a coffee table book of her outfits Hmm

Mi mean, even if you do like her stuff, she's dressed by a stylist(s) anyway so it's hardly that she has some innate sense of royal fashion

I know someone who works at one of those designers (Katherine hacker?) and it drives her mad how everyone wants a jacket etc Kate wore. Seems odd to me.

I have a maternity dress like hers from seraphine, not because she wore it, but because i saw it on her and thought ooh that would suit me.

Hmm, well, I'm going to put my head above the parapet and say I quite like her style.

I've never bought anything she's worn, or even actually copied her outfits. But, I do quite like her style. or her stylist's style... I have a similar body shape (a bit taller, but not quite as slim), and fairly conservative, tailored and, um, feminine tastes. I am 41 though, and I probably am talking more about what I wear for work, as opposed to the weekend / going out.

I thunk she wears older clothes that are more suited to her Mum or too short for her.

I don't have any of her clothes but I think she's pretty stylish most of the time. Some of her costs and shoes are gorgeous.

I've bought the Breton top she wore last year. It's right up my street and I knew she would wear a good quality one, so I tracked it down (and am now a Me+Em convert).

I actually think that credit where it's due, she has worked very hard with her personal chefs and personal trainers to achieve a figure that would make any outfit look good. She definitely had a good frame naturally, shoulders not too broad, features in proportion etc, but I'm sure whatever she wore she'd receive compliments as would anyone else who had that kind of time and money to spend on their figure and wardrobe.

I do personally love her coats and shoes, and her son always looks cute. The rest of her "style" is pretty safe and non descript in reality though, so the whole media storm nauseates me frequently. Sometimes I just will her to do what Kim Sears did and show a bit of personality!!!

I don't dollow what she (or any celeb for that matter) wears religiously. But I occasionally see pictures and think "that'd look nice on me" were the same height and build and colouring.

But a lot if her clothes are just casual outfits. I can do casual on my own.

I love her coats but don't really like anything else.

Anything she wears would not suit me in the slightest.

However, I love Kate and think she is beautiful.

I bet she has an different style of dress when she's not doing official appointments, like really comfy yoga pants for slobbing around the house and running after a toddler while pregnant. Or maybe dresses as a goth and cackles about what the press would say if they saw her...

I own the blouse she's wearing in her official portrait but admittedly I bought it a long time before the portrait came out! I do like the coats she wears and the occasional evening dress but her daytime outfits have got a bit staid in recent years.

I went to dd's (y9) parents evening last night (just a normal comp), there was a woman & her daughter there both dressed as Kite Middleton (!). It was one of the weirdest things I've seen - thick black eyeliner, horrid boots ... the works!

The same people who copy her styles are the same people who would copy what there neighbour buys or do. Only reason is because they have no confidence in their own styles. Some people forget that different dresses fit different shapes.
I remember seeing someone with the similar blue dress Kate wore for the engagement. I laughed my head. I think she did actually noticed. I was with a friend of mind.

When they say 'sold out' it probably just means that only a small number were produced. It's not like she buys her clothes from primark, is it?
I think she dresses appropiately for her role in life (well, apart from the bare bum outfit). I would never copy it and I never see any else dressed in that style either, but I wouldn't expect to.
Didn't her wedding dress design filter down to the high street though? There definitely seems to be more variety in wedding dresses now.
