To be pissed off about my birthday?

My sister hasn't sent so much as a text, let alone a card or present. (yes we normally do presents for birthdays ).
I got one or two Facebook messages, including my niece and cousin after 9pm.
On the other hand my lovely work colleagues clubbed together and bought me a lovely bunch of flowers. As they said "at least you have a work family".
I suppose I'm most hurt that I haven't heard from my sister at all.
My mother is in a care home and suffers from dementia so wouldn't be able to remember.

YANBU at all.
Happy birthday

RueDeWakening · 22/01/2015 23:18

YANBU - my sister came up trumps this week for my birthday, unlike DH who failed to even bother with a card Angry

I wouldn't mind too much, but it was a "big" birthday and I thought I'd made it clear I was hoping for at least some recognition.

Riri85 · 22/01/2015 23:18

Not in the slightest! Happy birthday!????

ilovesooty · 22/01/2015 23:19

YANBU. It's disappointing (to put it mildly), but I hope you've had a good day. Cake Wine

HaveYouHeardOfGoogle · 22/01/2015 23:20

Happy BirthdayThanks

MsVestibule · 22/01/2015 23:20

YANBU. I realise there are a lot of people who think birthdays for grownups shouldn't be celebrated or even marked but I send a present and text to my sister, and I don't even like her. Bit weird that you normally give presents but this year not even a text/phone call. Do you get on with her normally?

WilburIsSomePig · 22/01/2015 23:20

Happy Birthday! CakeFlowers

GoringBit · 22/01/2015 23:20

Happy birthday Sooty, and belated happy birthday Rue.

More Wine!

MsVestibule · 22/01/2015 23:22

Rue, that's really bad Thanks.

ilovesooty · 22/01/2015 23:23

I forgot - the service manager of the charity I chair texted me just after midnight to wish me a happy birthday and called this morning.
But the lack of contact from my sister did hurt.
I have a big birthday next year and to be honest I don't think it's worth planning anything special.

Happy Birthday!!Cake
YANBU - that's really poor.Sad My DSILs both missed my birthday last year (and have never mentioned it since) and it still bugs me so I'd be even more aggrieved if it had been missed by a sibling.

ilovesooty · 22/01/2015 23:24

MsVestible we're not very close but this is the first year I've had no contact at all.

Aah happy birthday. My sister is always late with a birthday card or doesn't bother at all and has just forgotten my dd's birthday for the umpteenth time. It's only my mum who remembers from my side of the family.

Postchildrenpregranny · 22/01/2015 23:40

I forgot my SIL birthday one year .I love her dearly .There was just a lot (some of it unpleasant) going on in my life and I overlooked it .I assume you know your sister is ok ?

LilMissSunshine9 · 22/01/2015 23:44

YANBU my sister decided she would rather clean her house then spend the afternoon with me on my 30th bday. WE did eventually go out for dinner but we had agreed to spend the day together though. Her 30th is due this year...I am debating whether to be the bigger person and not do tit for tat

ilovesooty · 22/01/2015 23:47

I'm sure I would know if anything was wrong with my sister. She would call, or my brother in law would call if she couldn't or my niece would let me know.

Happy Birthday. Flowers Cake :)

ilovesooty · 23/01/2015 00:55

Thank you all. I've had some belated Facebook messages too which was nice.
To be honest I'm pretty self sufficient. I'm used to spending Christmas alone for example.
I'm sure I'll hear from my sister in due course but I'm sure if I'd been late with her birthday wishes I'd never have heard the last of it.

You never know sooty. I thought my DB had forgotten last year. Bit weird as he normally does. After a LONG time he emailed and said, "your present was returned to me, why didn't you say you didn't get anything?".
