nearly two years ago!

I am bu aren't i?

checking dp's bank statements fot tax return and in july 2013 theres a £400 spend in tesco.Hmm

we have racked our brains and cannot think of anything we bought. it most definitely wasn't groceries.

by the same virtue if that amount of money just disappeared from our account we absolutely would have noticed.

do you think they would be able to tell us?

my thinking is no way but worth a try??

Do you have a Clubcard? I think that keeps a record of everything.

Guiltypleasures001 · 22/01/2015 08:21

Hi op

If you are doing a tax return have you not got a receipt somewhere

If it was a one off spend possibly electrical? Tv or lap top? If you go in to your account see if there is a Tesco direct purchase it may still be on there?

lemisscared · 22/01/2015 08:23

only keep receipts for work related stuff.

we would remember a one off spend as we are always skint. we bought a tv there once but less than £200

worth checking the club card account though. thanks.

Why are you only noticing this now? Do you not check your bank statements on a regular basis?
Anyway, I doubt Tesco have just taken your money, you'll probably remember that big purchase.
Did you buy foreign currency at one of their exchange places? Or is it possible it was a withdrawal from one of their cash machines?

WhereDoAllTheCalculatorsGo · 22/01/2015 08:25

Sorry, I can see that it wasn't a problem in July 2013, you just can't remember now.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 22/01/2015 08:28

I was thinking cash machine

lemisscared · 22/01/2015 08:29

we would have noticed im sure. i have a memory like an elephant which is what makes me think i couldn't have forgotten (unless im losing it!!). it was in our local store. not cash withdrawal as can only take £200.

i don't know what to think really. just be nice to know. if they could tell us it would probably fall in. i am not suggesting anything untoward. just a mystery.

OP posts:
lemisscared · 22/01/2015 08:30

also it was £401.34 or something like that.

OP posts:
lemisscared · 22/01/2015 08:31

so the question is...with the card number and date. would they have that on a computer somewhere?

OP posts:
londonrach · 22/01/2015 08:33

Its alot of money im sure you have noticed.

Hobby2014 · 22/01/2015 08:34

I can't help... but I really want to know what it is when you find outGrin

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 22/01/2015 08:40

Your card wasnt cloned or someone used your details, did they?

Oldieandgoldie · 22/01/2015 08:48

Car insurance?

Chocolatefudgebrownieicecream · 22/01/2015 08:48

A games console? This is the kind of thing I do... I've always found an explanation in the end!

VikingLady · 22/01/2015 08:52

Sounds like insurance?

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 22/01/2015 09:10

It might have been insurance.

LurkingHusband · 22/01/2015 09:18

I would be amazed if Tescos systems could burrow into a single transaction two years ago. (a) it would be a shed load of data to store and (b) it would also be questionable under the DPA. Data should not be retained longer than necessary.

Maybe a better place to start is your bank. Can they give you anymore details about that transaction ? Which card (if it's a joint account), what time exactly (which can help) - and whether it was PIN or signature.

From memory Tesco "reset" their clubcards every year (probably to avoid holding data) so that's probably a dead end.

Have you checked your emails from that time frame (if you keep them all ?)

UnexpectedSchoolOffer · 22/01/2015 09:18

No they won't tell you. I had a faulty item but no receipt and they said they only hold 12 months records.

pudcat · 22/01/2015 09:25

It could just be your normal shop plus £200 cashback

WhereDoAllTheCalculatorsGo · 22/01/2015 09:26

Did you go on holiday in July or August 2013?

SaucyJack · 22/01/2015 09:29

Fridge/washing machine/sofa? Tesco direct sell most big things.

MissDuke · 22/01/2015 09:31

I was going to say insurance, but someone beat me to it! If you look online at your clubcard account, it would show if it was insurance, or at least it used to - I haven't logged on in ages!

lemisscared · 22/01/2015 09:35

we will try the bank. its more curiosity than anything else at this stage.

we would have definitely noticed if something was wrong at the time.

its not car insurance.

may be an unsolved mystery

Find out specifically the details used. We use Love Money to auto track finances and it is avle to file transactions from Tesco Petrol Stations under 'fuel' and the supermarket ones under groceries. I imagine Tesco Direct and Tesco Insurance etc will also be tagged slightly differently

lemisscared · 22/01/2015 09:44

we did go away for a weekend about that time.
