Hotel/period mishap - warning: gross.

I'm pretty sure I did something unreasonable - but I don't know what I should have done!

I was at a hotel, I woke up and my period had arrived, all over the bed! I stripped the bed, folded up all the sheets etc and put them on the towel on the bathroom floor (so you couldn't see the bloody bits, and would be able to pick up the stuff without touching any blood). I left a note on the bed saying 'Sorry about the bedsheets and towel, I wasn't expecting my period, sorry' and I left a tenner on it. Obviously nobody should have to deal with that at work, on the other hand, what else could I have done? Maybe should have washed them in the shower, thinking about it. Shit. What would you have done, and WIBU?

Don't worry, it won't be the first time they've dealt with it and it won't be the last. You were very considerate to bother leaving a note and a tip. The only thing you could have done was to rinse the blood yourself, but for goodness sake don't beat yourself up about it.
Shit (and other stuff) happens.

I don't think you could have done anything else.
DS did a baby poo explosion on our hotel bed sheets last summer. I was rinsed them in the bath and told the maid I was sorry.
These things happen.

As a former chambermaid, I think you've been very considerate. Believe me, I've seen a lot worse (you don't want to know). All the laundry goes in big hampers and is boiled in massive machines with very little human input.

Oh you poor thing, what a horrible thing to happen.

I think you did everything you could, more than most would have done. I'm sure the housekeeping staff have seen worse.

I can't think of anything else you could have done - trying to wash the sheets in the shower would have just made it worse. Had any soaked through to the mattress?

Believe me OP, the hotel staff will have seen a lot worse than that (shit and urine for example). Without being sexist, most housekeepers are female and will understand that this happens to most women at some point in their lives.

Very kind of you to leave a tip, I'm sure very few people would be that decent.

Happened to me....I took the duvet with me dp told them I'd had an awful
Nose bleed and offered to pay for it.

I wouldn't personally leave someone else to launder my blood

If it was only on the sheets, which you stripped and folded, then in actual fact, your room will be easier than other rooms since you've already stripped the bed for the cleaner.

The cleaner won't be the one doing the laundry, and may not even see the blood. So you probably made his/her day with that tip

I think you did the right thing. I remember being on holiday once when I was little and me and my mum were really unwell (d&v all night). Poor staff had to deal with the aftermath of that the day after (although obv my mum cleaned up as best she could). These things happen!

Oh thank god, thank you everyone, that makes me feel much better. None had gone onto the mattress, thank goodness. Please tell your stories OddFodd.

That's why those bedspread things, decorative cushions, and those strips of fabric that are draped across the bed - basically anything that's not changed every time they change the room - is immediately stripped off the bed and thrown on the floor when I stay in a hotel...

I once stayed at a hotel that had a Navy blue valance. I could see the come stains on it....

I ditch the bed adornments as soon as I enter room....any cushions ....throws....less is more

Yes. DH things I'm mad but as soon as we get in the room cushions and throws are picked up with pinching fingers by their edges and put in the wardrobe. Yuck.

I would also be mortified OP but I think you did what was best.

Rude my dad discovered this review of a really awful sounding hotel in TripAdvisor where someone had written that there was "blood on the bed and excitement all over the walls". So that navy valance could have been worse!

(Excitement, though, really. Best euphemism I've heard in a long time.)

believe me you were more than considerate, if i were to work there i would be incredibly happy that someone left a note warning me about the sheet, and very surprised to find a tip! you did everything you should and more so really don't worry!

Hey I work in an hotel and believe me we see far far worse than period blood. We wear gloves while changing sheets/towels anyway and leaving a tenner tip is very very considerate. Don't worry OP I would not have raised an eyebrow. To make you feel better here are a few things left in rooms. Used condoms very often on floor or even in bed. Skiddies on sheets and towels. Bodily fluids in beds. Puke in bathroom usually down wall adjacent to loo. Pee all over bathroom floor where a nice drunk has "missed" and as I said on a different thread erm......... used vibrator. YABU

There really is no need for anyone to be mortified. I'm sure there isn't a hotel anywhere this hasn't happened.

It happened to me on the second night in on a 2 week stay at a 5 star château hotel in France once. They dealt with it and put a double mattress protector on.

Oh it isn't gross either.

"Gross" was the vomit left by the previous work occupant of a holiday flat in Barcelona down the side of a platform bed.
