Hotel/period mishap - warning: gross.

I'm pretty sure I did something unreasonable - but I don't know what I should have done!

I was at a hotel, I woke up and my period had arrived, all over the bed! I stripped the bed, folded up all the sheets etc and put them on the towel on the bathroom floor (so you couldn't see the bloody bits, and would be able to pick up the stuff without touching any blood). I left a note on the bed saying 'Sorry about the bedsheets and towel, I wasn't expecting my period, sorry' and I left a tenner on it. Obviously nobody should have to deal with that at work, on the other hand, what else could I have done? Maybe should have washed them in the shower, thinking about it. Shit. What would you have done, and WIBU?

Leaving a tip was a nice thing to do! If it's any consolation, I get incredibly heavy periods that strike with no warning and last from anything between 4 days and several weeks and have been caught short more times than I can remember. I can never wear light coloured trousers or skirts in the summer in case they suddenly get blood on them.
My "favourite" time was truly embarrassing. I was half an hour into a flight to New York when things happened, big time. I was wearing white jeans (never, ever again), which didn't hold much back. The seat was stained, I got up to go to the loo, but had to tie my jacket round my waist in a half hearted attempt to cover things up. The loo was obviously in use, just to add to the fun. I eventually got in there, used too much toilet roll, blocked it, then had to go back to my seat. All the stewardesses could do was offer me paper to sit on.
About three hours later we hit turbulence and I spilled an ice cold glass of apple juice into my lap. So I now looked likeI'd pissed myself as well.
I then had to endure the rest of the flight, disembarking, a crowded airport bus, customs and the luggage carousel before I could get changed and hide my embarrassment.
It was over 15 years ago and I still cringe at the thought.
So, no, OP, YAMDNBU!

DH used to run a hotel. I nipped in to see him once and a very disgruntled chamber maid stomped down the stairs and declared "the dirty fucker in room 5 has done a shit IN THE KETTLE". DH confirmed that shitty kettles weren't even the worst thing they'd dealt with.

That happened in a hotel here too Showy: tripadvisaargh.tumblr.com.
Can't find the one though.

I'm an ex chambermaid and yeah I'd of been happy someone had stripped their bed :) . I've had to deal with vomit, used condoms, someone shiting in the bed and putting covers on top, this was an alright hotel as well.

And to think there's a thread going on this evening where a chambermaid's been sacked for drinking a can of pop left behind in a room...Sad

Bit of a fucker of a job all in all, isn't it?

You did the right thing OP.

As someone who has worked in many different hotels I have seen a lot worse with no tenner and no note and still shrugged it off as normal. We had a guy who came in every Thursday after with his prostitute and used to leave the used condom on the bed, I've helped with cleaning sick, poo , sperm and blood which sometimes the cleaners would refuse to do which meant I would deal with it or we couldn't sell the room, it's all about profit and this all comes with the job, the fact you were so polite would of made it ok. And remember, they will forget it as soon as you are out the door and will be dealing with worse in the next room. Don't worry! Grin
