To wonder WTF has happened to Clover?!

CyclopsBee · 13/01/2015 20:06

I've always bought Clover spread as I think it is very very similar to butter.
Spreads nicely, takes good, everyone happy,

The last tub I've bought is very pale, harder to spread and tastes somehow different, it's not good Shock

Please tell me the fuckers haven't fucked up changed the recipe?
Anyone else noticed?

Recently return to butter...not looked back

Fairylea · 23/01/2015 21:32

I've said the clover is differently lately to my dh .. He thinks I am bonkers. I'm going to show him this thread so he knows I'm not alone!

I can't stand proper butter or any other spread including aldis love. Clover is the only one I like!

neverputasockinatoaster · 23/01/2015 22:03

I use butter, I keep it out of the fridge in an insulated butter dish and it spreads fine -unless DH has used the last of it and not taken a new pack out-.
In the depths of winter I leave it in the hall over night mind as the kitchen does get a bit freezy cold.

Why you shouldn't be eating margarine

To wonder WTF has happened to Clover?!
BuzzardBird · 24/01/2015 11:20

Muffin we don't have margarine in the UK anymore. Anything not butter is now called 'spread'.

Blimey toaster, you look after your butter like I look after my first born! Grin

BuzzardBird · 24/01/2015 11:25

I've e-mailed Clover to ask them wtf is going on with it and how long they have been using palm oil.

ChickenMe · 24/01/2015 11:31

Can I admit I eat salted butter out of the packet as a snack? Sometimes I put a bit on the cat's nose.

Butter is a health food IMO. Lots of vitamins-A,D and E. And you get to keep it in the cupboard in an old granny style butter jar!

This is taken from the Which? website - can't link to it as you have to sign in. Interesting that Lidls is 2nd and over half the price. Hate spreads and only like butter meself!

Clover Clover £2.00 24.8% 74%
Best Buy Described by our testers as having 'a deep buttery taste, which was lovely', it earned the highest rating for flavour and scored highly on all measures. However, it's got the highest level of saturated fat out of all the spreads on test.
Heavenly Buttery (Lidl) Heavenly Buttery (Lidl) £0.89 17.5% 70%
Best Buy The second-tastiest product we tested, and panellists rated its texture highly too. Along with the Tesco spread, it's the joint cheapest. It also has lower saturated fat levels than Clover, so is definitely worth trying if you have a Lidl near you.
I Can't Believe It's Not Butter I Can't Believe It's Not Butter £1.70 20% 69%
This received good scores from panellists, who liked its golden colour and buttery flavour. It's 30p cheaper than Clover and has slightly lower saturated fat levels, so is worth trying if you don’t live near a Lidl.
Utterly Butterly Utterly Buttery £1.80 12.70% 69%
Earned decent scores from panellists, who described it as smooth with a good colour. It's cheaper than Clover and has a lot less saturated fat, too, so try it if you are looking to reduce
your saturated fat intake.
Asda Buttery Spread Asda Buttery Spread £0.90 12.7% 68%
Panellists called its flavour buttery, but some called it pale. If this doesn’t bother you, and you're on a budget and watching your saturated fat intake, give it a try. It has the lowest salt content of the spreads we tested (1.1g per 100g)
Butterlicious by Sainsbury's Butterlicious by Sainsbury's £1.30 11% 67%
This got good ratings for spreadability and panellists praised its buttery taste, but the 'lightly salted' flavour divided opinion. It has one of the lowest saturated fat levels in our test.
Morrisons Totally Buttery Morrisons Totally Buttery £1.26 10.8% 65%
Panellists liked its appearance, but many found its flavour too subtle. This spread has the highest amount of salt out of all of the spreads in our test (2g per 100g).
Tesco Butter Me Up Tesco Butter Me Up £0.89 11% 64%
Easy to spread, but panellists found it greasy and lacking in flavour. If you like its price, head to Lidl instead. Otherwise try Utterly Butterly if you’re looking for something tastier with
similar saturated fat levels.
Flora Buttery Flora Buttery £1.70 15% 63%
Panellists liked its appearance but weren’t so impressed with its taste. Look further up our table if you want something more buttery-tasting that will do justice to your morning toast.
Flora Original Flora Original £1.70 10% 59%
Received the lowest score for flavour, with some panellists saying it tastes bland. It does have the lowest saturated f

That is interesting Roussette , what is odd though is that Clover is now only 65% but they said they haven't changed their recipe?

Roussette · 24/01/2015 12:24

Yes, it's top at 74% and this was in last month's Which surveys so very recent!

BuzzardBird · 24/01/2015 12:54

I presumed that the 74% was talking about the content, not the score? Have I confused it do you think?

Roussette · 24/01/2015 15:02

The last % next to the product is Which's taste test score so 74% is the highest for Clover Smile. I copy and pasted it and it hasn't come out well!

GatoradeMeBitch · 24/01/2015 16:03

Is Flora still shit? We used to buy it, then they made it 'even tastier'. No-one buys Flora for the taste. It has barely any, that's the point! The new taste reminded me of St Ivel Gold - the bane of my lunchbox years in the 80s. I made macaroni cheese with Flora and all we could taste was the rancid 'new Flora taste'. I haven't bought it since.

GlitzAndGigglesx · 25/01/2015 21:02

Gatorade I hate Flora I find it has an odd creamy taste to it. Ok it's probably not odd to some but I bloody hate cream and to me this doesn't taste right especially the buttery one
