Well of course you can. As long as you have a spare 20 minutes to spend getting the cursor in the right position

You can, it's also pretty easy. Although I've been sending sil links to a menu and apparently they don't work when I know they bloody do! (Sent to dp to check)

maddening · 11/01/2015 21:20

What cursor - it's your finger - you touch the url bar so it highlights the address touch again to get the copy option, touch that and then touch in the post and choose paste - it seems pretty universal (have ipad and android phone and have had variety of smart phones

maddening · 11/01/2015 21:21

You don't even have to choose the link conversion box anymore

Icimoi · 11/01/2015 21:22

But how do you do it? I can never get it to copy the right bit - it will copy single words or whole paragraphs but nothing in between.

noblegiraffe · 11/01/2015 21:26

You can move the bars at the start and end of the highlighted text with your finger.

Or you can just paste the lot and delete the bits you don't want.

PseudoBadger · 11/01/2015 21:27

Look it's dead easy!

Only if you haven't suffered the curse of iOS 8 that scuppered all C&P provison.

If you are lucky then one of the 3 issued "fixes" actually fixed your product, even luckier still if you had enough space on your iPad to load said 3 fixes, one after the other because trying just to do the last one doesn't work.

(I am lucky and unlucky. Thankfully I was able to upgrade my phone, without much of a financial penalty and my ability to C&P is restored. But unfortunately the iPad will need to be replaced I ever want to use it again. So the iPad is now DDs alone and full of games and I MN on my phone)

AppleRings · 11/01/2015 21:32

eve I have ios8 and copy and paste still work
Have you tried restoring?

OriginalGreenGiant · 11/01/2015 21:34

To say that you can copy and paste on a iPhone or iPad1

Yes you can - please see above for proof (from an iPhone 4S)

HicDraconis · 11/01/2015 21:38

My iPhone is running iOS 8 - C&P still works! Try rebooting?

EveDallasRetd · 11/01/2015 21:44

Everyone using an apple product should now be on iOS 8.1.2

8 fucked everything up
8.1 fixed a bit, 8.1.1 a bit more and 8.1.2 was supposed to put everything right (although lots of people still have issues with Safari randomly closing and some larger games not loading)

My (DDs) iPad is stuck on 8. It didn't recognise factory settings even when the Genius Bar had a go. The only thing they could suggest was a discounted new one, but even with the discount I couldn't really justify a new one. If I try to C&P anything (not only links) then it randomly pastes something I copied months ago (quite often a passage about the effects of Chickenpox that I was trying to paste to a woman determined to take her poxy toddler to a mums and tots group)

I'm not the only one, there were lots of threads on here and even more if you google. Bloody Apple.

Staywithme · 11/01/2015 21:51

issues with Safari randomly closing

Oh! Is that common? I thought if was just because I dropped my iPad so often. GrinBlush

BeverleyCrusher · 12/01/2015 11:40

I know how to do it. It's all very well saying just use your finger, but I can never get the draggy box stop in the right place, or insert the cursor exactly where I want it.

Surely I am not alone in this? my fingers aren't THAT fat

ouryve · 12/01/2015 11:42

So long as your 8 year old doesn't sit on you at the crucial 2 handed moment.

ouryve · 12/01/2015 11:43

And I've kept my 1st generation iPad mini on iOS6. I like that it runs at a speed faster than snail's pace and that I still have enough room for the apps I use.

ZeroFunDame · 12/01/2015 11:50

Hmm ... I do think I've cracked it now. But only after three months of trying to do it the obvious way, via the copy button at the bottom of my screen. Which simply doesn't work for c&p.

Next I tried copying the bar at the top. Also doesn't work because you miss half the address. Finally realised I have to "select all" first - then copy. Then it works. But I'm sure it was less cumbersome before upgrade of hard and soft ware.

CallMeExhausted · 12/01/2015 11:54

Safari randomly closing

I never noticed - I use Chrome.

42bunnytails · 12/01/2015 12:01

You can do web links just as the previous poster says, but getting the stupid thing to select a single word/short phrase or someone's username, so you spell it right, is a very very random affair.

I'm still running ISO7 (no memory to upgrade) and it's still crap.

42bunnytails · 12/01/2015 12:06

So now just to make me look stupid my phone is selecting single words and letting me move the end points.

Earlier it would only select whole paragraphs.

Ie "Try a cafetière maybe?
I can really recommend the ground coffee from LIDL in the gold pack. It's the best we've found after extensive taste tests"

When all I wanted was "cafetière" because I can't spell.

SquirrelledAway · 12/01/2015 12:49

IOS 6 here - but only cos my phone us so old it doesn't support anything later. Works just fine though.

ZeroFunDame · 12/01/2015 13:03

Are you sure Squirrelled? I had the shop upgrade my old 4S to IOS8 (took hours, couldn't have done it myself) before passing it on to a relative.

(There were some initial problems with texts for some reason, but it appears to be workng properly now.)

Lj8893 · 12/01/2015 13:06

To say that you can copy and paste on a iPhone or iPad1

yep, you can do it on a variety of devices! I have just done it on my Nokia lumia.

SquirrelledAway · 13/01/2015 12:42

Zero yes, because it's an even older 3GS. I'm such a laggard when it comes to technology.
