To think I could be 8 stone by May

I'm 11 stone now

OP posts:
BitOutOfPractice · 08/01/2015 14:13

Depends on what you do but that would be pretty hardcore.

Why do you want to be 8stone by May?

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 08/01/2015 14:17

That does sound quite tough to do. How tall are you?

SaucyJack · 08/01/2015 14:18

It's probably do-able with a lot of hard work.

How tall are you?

cailindana · 08/01/2015 14:18

8 stone seems a very low weight. I'm 5 ft 5 and look gaunt if I'm anything less than around 10 stone.

What height are you?

ToastBones · 08/01/2015 14:19

I thought I might be able to go from 12 stone to 9 by summer but that's a quarter of my body weight so er, unlikely.

12 to 9 is doable, I think, with a lot of discipline but again it seems quite low for a grown woman. It really depends on your height though of course.

dragdownthemoon · 08/01/2015 14:20

You could probably be 9 stone by May. I suggest Slimming World.

SwingingBalls · 08/01/2015 14:21

How are you planning on achieving this?

I think it's very unlikely.

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 08/01/2015 14:22

Calindana, it depends on build. I'm 5'7 and look podgy at 10 stone. I look best at around 8st 4lb - 8st 9lb.

DialsMavis · 08/01/2015 14:22

It depends how overweight you are surely? My bones weigh more than 8 stone I'm sure.

TheCraicDealer · 08/01/2015 14:23

Entirely possible, but will require sacrifice; do you prefer your right or left leg?

Mammanat222 · 08/01/2015 14:24

It took me 8 months to lose 3st. Went from 10lb 13oz to 8st.

That was with a few big initial losses and then an average loss of 1-2lb per week thereafter.

May isn't realistic if you want to do it properly... ie positive lifestyle changes, gradual weightloss so your body gets used to it..

AimlesslyPurposeful · 08/01/2015 14:24

Three stone is 42lbs.

A sensible weight loss is about 2lbs a week so that should take about 21 weeks to lose.

How many weeks between now and May? About 16? You wouldn't be far off your total.

hellsbellsmelons · 08/01/2015 14:24

That's nearly 4lbs per week.
Recommended loss is 1-2lbs per week.
That is more manageable and more maintainable!
I'm 5ft 3" and 8st 8-10lb is my ideal. Where I look and feel good.
I have a stone to lose to be there and I am signed up for 12 weeks at Slimming World as I'm expecting it to take that long.
1lb per week! Not too much pressure.

Slow and steady wins the race!
Don't put unrealistic targets in place. You will set yourself up for failure!
Do small steps.
Aim to lose 10lbs in the first 4 weeks and then go from there.

My mantra this year is Slow progress is better than no progress

You'll get there though - good luck!

nilbyname · 08/01/2015 14:24

That is alot of weight to loose.

you will need a serious gym habit, a serious commitment to eating well and no or very limited alcohol.

8 stone is pretty tiny if you are anything over say 5,4 heightwise.

WhereIsMyFurryHat · 08/01/2015 14:25

It depends really. I would look ill at 8 Stone and I'm 5ft 6.

Faez · 08/01/2015 14:25

I'm the same squeezy, I'm a little over 5'6 and look best around 8.5 stone. I'd look pretty big at 10 stone.

Mammanat222 · 08/01/2015 14:25

Ps I'm 5ft 1in so 8st is a perfectly fine weight for me. OP If you are taller then you may not need to lose so much?

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 08/01/2015 14:25

The OP is 5'4". They have started another thread in chat. Don't know why?!

gaggiagirl · 08/01/2015 14:26

I'm 5ft and look like a total chubby McChubster at anything over 8st.
I'm guessing your a shorty too OP?

Honestly I think that's a huge loss in a short space of time. How about adding a toning work out to the diet for inch loss?

hellsbellsmelons · 08/01/2015 14:26

OK, worked out all wrong! (and maths is my job!)
2.5lbs per week over 16 weeks for 3 stone weight loss.
Not too bad.
Aim for 1.5-2lbs then anything extra is a bonus!

cailindana · 08/01/2015 14:27

Really Squeezy? I always wonder about this - loads of people say they look best at around 8/9 stone but when I was around 9 quite a few people commented that I was looking unwell and looking back at pictures they were right - I looked wasted away. I only have one friend who is around the 8 stone mark, she's about 5 ft 5 same as me and I think it's too thin - she's constantly cold and looks unwell.
I'm currently hovering around 12 and I look a bit podgy but ok in general IMO. I'm a size 12-14. Just around the 10 mark is best for me I think.

Clutterbugsmum · 08/01/2015 14:31

Perhaps OP is talking about May next year.

CallMeExhausted · 08/01/2015 14:31

Reasonably, you could be 8 stone by May, but you run a significant risk of then being 12 stone by December. Rapid weight loss tends to set the body up for severe rebound gain.

Slow and steady... and tone is more important than weight. You may find that losing a stone and a half with accompanied toning exercises accomplishes your goal.

Also, the weight will come off slower and slower, as proportionally each stone is a greater and greater percentage of your total body weight.

All the best to you.
