I'm 11 stone now

I'm 5'4" and looked very gaunt in the face when. I dropped to 8st 7lbs.

My ideal Summer weight is 9st and then it usually creeps up to 9st 7lbs around Christmas. Although I've surpassed myself this year and am 10st right now and am desperate to lose half a stone or so.

I wonder OP is 8st your normal weight or pre-pregnancy weight or the weight of some else whose figure you admire?

nilbyname · 08/01/2015 14:32

Im 5,4 and 8.9 which is fine, but i would like to be just under 8 and a half as that was my wedding day weight and that is my goal!

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 08/01/2015 14:33

Yes, Calindana. At 10st I'm a 14. At my ideal weight I'm an 8 (and still with FF/G cups so def not wasted looking). Dropping below 8st 4 makes a difference though, I start to look ill, hollow and tired.

OriginalGreenGiant · 08/01/2015 14:33

Losing 3 stone in 4 months (presumably as you say 'by' May) to get to 8 stone...no I don't think it's doable.

If you were starting out at 20stone and made lots of life changes then I'd say yes, you could lose 3 stone, as the bigger you are, the faster the weight will drop off at first.

I started out at 13st 4lbs (5foot 5) on 1st Jan last year. I did a complete overhaul, very healthy diet, lots of exercise. By my wedding in June, after 5 months I'd lost 2 stone 4lbs and was down to 11stone. That was with me being very strict, focused 99% of the time etc. And I was bigger than you to begin with.

I've put a bit back on and am now 11.5 stone and starting again. My aim is to get to 10stone by July (holiday) which I think is more realistic.

VenusRising · 08/01/2015 14:34

It's doable and not very difficult if you contact a dietitian.

I've found the Holford low GL diet to be very healthy. I joined a zest for life group and we learned about proper nutrition and healthy foods, with recipies. The group atmosphere was very supportive and we had confidential weigh ins and body analysis.

Any specific problems you may have are accommodated in your recommended diet as well, like low thyroid function, borderline diabetes/ metabolic syndrome / high Bp, menopausal symptoms.
There is a calinstetic 15 minute exercise program also and it's very easy to do, at home in your socks- no equipment needed.

I lost 2 lbs a week and didn't feel hungry at all. My hair skin and nails were fab. The whole family benefited from the healthy food as well, so no special diet stuff was prepared extra- it's pretty seamless to do.

I'm doing it again to shift the pounds I gained with the wine pies I ate over Xmas.
I like the group atmosphere and you learn a lot about stress and sleep too.

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 08/01/2015 14:34

I get a ginormous moon face above 9.5 stone too. total babe alert

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 08/01/2015 14:35

Italics fail Hmm

CallMeExhausted · 08/01/2015 14:37

The lowest I have been as an adult was 11st1, and I looked emaciated. However, I am 5'10".

I used to weigh over 25 st, and have lost quite a bit. I still have some to go (had a spinal cord injury and gained weight after the 11st, now trying to take it off again).

I figure that I will probably look decent around 12 st or so, but am not setting a deadline to get there. Hopefully by the end of the year.

OriginalGreenGiant · 08/01/2015 14:40

Not many overhauls will result in 2-3 lbs weightloss EVERY week, without fail (which is what the op would need).

When I lost my weight I had a couple of outstanding weeks where I dropped 3 or 4lbs, then it was 2lb/1lb for the majority.

cailindana · 08/01/2015 14:45

It seems to make more sense not to focus on weight but on how you look and whether the clothes you like fit. 8st might look good on some but awful on others, even others who are the same height.

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 08/01/2015 14:50

Absolutely.

MonkeyMonkeyUnderpants · 08/01/2015 17:26

I agree with cailindada. I currently don't know how much I weigh only that it's too much as I feel unfit and overweight (I'm a size 18 at 5'6") so I've decided to try and get fit (pole dancing for fitness classes and running 3x per week) and to eat better (cut out the crap keep all the veg I wolf down) and hopefully by the end of the year I'll be healthier, fitter and lighter! and of course feel better a put myself!

Benchmark · 08/01/2015 18:55

I'm 5'5 and 8 stone 3. I look fine at 8 stone and feel podgy at 9 stone. I'm definitely healthy.

I see far less people that look unhealthily thin compared to unhealthily overweight. I think perception of what is healthy has become warped by an overweight population. It's actually quite rare to see someone who is dangerously thin in my opinion.

Im 5 feet 7 and usually 8 stone 3 and a size 8 (im a little more after xmas!). I was 11 stone at 40 weeks pregnant and lost it all quickly. But 10lb of that was baby lol.

Weight is different on different people. This is what the dietitian told me both times i was referred in early pregnancy (due to low bmi). She had no issue with my diet or shape and said bmi is just a guide. At 9 stone im a size 12.

Ieat throughout the day (such as grapes, carrot sticks, an apple, thins like that) and so dont have huge portions at meal times.

I dont necessarily agree exercise is the beat way to lose weight really, as you get hungrier! Exercise is for health and toning up. If suggest really look at your diet (i never have take out. Makes me feel physically crap and lathargic after) and crucially portion sizes! A portion is the size of your fist (palm if it is fish).

Good luck! Summer bodies are made in winter as they say!

And remember it doesnt matter if you get to your goal as soon as you want, just that you get there.

CalleighDoodle · 08/01/2015 20:57

Id ignore weight and just focus on clothes size.

itsnothingoriginal · 08/01/2015 21:00

I lost 2 stone in 5 months and dropped from 11 stone to just over 9 stone for my wedding. Most of it was baby weight though.

Since then I've lost another stone through low carb/fasting but that has taken around 2 years. It's been quite an effort to maintain this weight though Shock

Good luck OP - lots of useful advice on the diet boards. Find what works for you…

tobysmum77 · 08/01/2015 21:06

it massively varies on the person I am also 5'10 and definitely don't look emaciated at 11st1 Grin . I need to be above 10, 10-4ish is good

Goodtimes90 · 09/01/2015 09:17

Thanks everyone.

OP posts:
DeliciousIrony · 09/01/2015 10:47

I think 9 stone would be a more realistic target, so averaging between 1.5 - 2lb per week. I am 5'4, and went from 12.5 stone to 9 stone in about 7 months without too much hardship.
My ultimate goal was (and still is) 8 stone - I have found that last stone the most difficult to shift. I have been down to 8 stone and back several times, it takes me a lot of time and effort and is hard to maintain. Everyone is different of course, but be prepared for weight loss to slow down as you get closer to your goal.

Good luck!

BreakingDad77 · 09/01/2015 11:16

How tall was OP? As depending on the height it could be body image counselling rather than weight loss thats needed.

BitOutOfPractice · 09/01/2015 11:27

Thanks for all the info you've given us to go on OP. Really useful! Confused

Theboodythatrocked · 09/01/2015 11:33

Another 8 stoner here but 5 foot 2 and look fat if go over that weight.

It's doable op if you cut out all bread sugar far alcohol and excersise like a loon. Perfectly doable.

Mousefinkle · 09/01/2015 11:41

Well I lost six and a half stone in seven months last year but I was very overweight to begin with (just over 17 and a half stone at 5 foot 7) so when I started eating right and exercising it just flew off. I did the 5:2 diet in the beginning and 3 and a half stone came off in the first three months. But like I say, I was almost 18 stone so I burnt calories a lot faster. The next 3 stone came off in four months just through eating well and moving more.

It depends if 11 stone is massively overweight for your height. If you're 5 foot it's possible, my height not so much. 8 stone would be underweight at my height though so I'd have to starve myself to get there and look really fucking ill. 9 stone may be more achievable, you'd have to work hard and keep at it though.
