About bringing buggies into school?
Dd's school has a covered area which leads into a 10x5 foot porch. This is also the cloakroom so all parents use this entrance but need to hang up coats and bags before going through the door into the classroom.

Many parents bring buggies to school and pass through this area. It is so congested and takes ages just to get into school. These buggies are then wheeled into the classroom and parked up on the carpet where the children sit for carpet time.

So AIBU to think that this is a health and safety/fire hazard? Or just being preci

Hmm maybe just mention it and see I'd they suggest some kind of better system. They're all probably aware it's not the best but waiting til someone else flags it up and sorts it out.

We ask parents to leave buggies outside, under the shelter, which is just outside the door. There simply isn't room for 30 children, 30+ parents and half a dozen buggies!

They are nursery children F1's so parents go in to settle.

I wouldn't be happy with this. I am suprised the school allow it. Why are parents even going into school? We leave our kids at the door and they file I. With the teacher?

Raise it with the head.

Littlefish - the shelter is right outside the door so it would make more sense to use this.

My dd has been going to nursery/school since she was 2yrs old. I have never came across this system where parents go into the classroom.

Buggies & parents should wait outside.

Any buggies are left in the shelter here. They'll even let you leave your buggy if you want till pickup (small rural school).

Parents go in to get coats off, name on wall and lunch boxes away. I can't imagine what it'd be like if buggies were trundled in too.

Lagoon - They are little ones 3 and 4 so I can understand parents nipping in for 2 minutes to settle them however I would be quite happy to leave Dd to file in with the teacher Grin

In our school, parents are encouraged to stay and play with their children in the classroom until registration time until the end of KS1. It works very well. People sometimes take buggies into the classroom, if they contain a sleepy baby, but generally they are left in the hall.

Holly really? I'd be unimpressed if school encouraged that. (Especially because it'd just lead to questions why mummy and daddy never stay but have to go to work)

At my DCs Infant school parents often did take the reception children into the classroom, for the first few weeks. Buggy's were strictly banned inside the school building though - younger siblings had to walk or be carried (or left with a friend outside).

We aren't allowed in the classroom! Doors open ten mins before the register is taken. Doors close when register is taken.

Iggly - Doors open 5 minutes after the session starts and close when the last parent has decided to leave. It's all a little disappointing.

I would mention it. You don't know what the buggies have driven through before they've parked on the carpet. (chewing gum and dog shit if it's anything like on the way to our school) On the other hand, our TA did coat hanging duties and we dropped the kids at the door.

at this time of year with muddy paths and rain its not ok to bring prams indoors and make the floors muddy and dirty especially if its where the children sit for carpet time

My little one has been sat on the dirty carpet again today. She came home throwing up. The 2 probably aren't linked but it makes me wonder....

Blurgh, buggy wheels can be gross, I wouldn't be keen on them driving over the carpet the LOs are soon to sit on.
