WIBU to call DD2 'Number 2'

Discopanda · 30/12/2014 21:23

DD2 is due in April- we can't agree on any names, we used up all the good names on DD1, 'Number 2' is starting to sound catchy and atm she kicks when I call 'Number 2'. I know registrars are allowed to refuse you calling your babies by certain names but if I explain my reasons surely they'll allow it?!

Weirdly or not I found my DS 2 easier to name than ds1. It just came to me. Good luck!

madsadbad · 30/12/2014 21:27

You should call her "?" then when she's a teenager and everyone writes "I love ?" on their hands/books etc she can be oh so popular!

Hamsolo · 30/12/2014 21:28

Or Bea?

Hassled · 30/12/2014 21:29

You can't have used all the good names on DD1 - how many middle names does she have exactly?

Have a look through the royal family tree, paying particular attention to the younger sisters and little-known cousins. There will be something in there.

Crikeyblimey · 30/12/2014 21:29

I am the youngest of five and believe me, every single time my mother introduced me as her 'number 5' I hated it with a passion.

I know she mostly meant it as a kind of 'how cool is it that I have five kids' but I HATED it.

My response was always 'and she also gave me a name, I'm Crikey pleased to meet you'

Call your bubz whatever you want, hun.

Really? Surely you're joking? Of course YABU.

My dh often refers to our two as daughter no 1, and daughter no 2. But as pet names, you can't seriously want that to go on their birth certificate and go through life being called Number 2? At the very least you'll soon start to grow bored of explaining to people why they're called that.

toomuchtooold · 30/12/2014 21:37

When I had my twins they were labelled "1 of 2" and "2 of 2" at the hospital. I almost expected the placenta would come out with a label attached which said "this completes your delivery".

However. Finding actual names: just look up the ONS 100 top names for girls, pick something in position 11-50. Common enough everyone can spell it, rare enough they probably won't share a class with 3 other kids with the same name. No bother.

Discopanda · 30/12/2014 21:37

I just thought if it was said with flair it might sound exotic...

Numeros Dos?

Memphisbelly · 30/12/2014 21:39

I am due in 4 weeks and having ds 2, also cannot pick a name as much as we like ds1's. People suggest names like we haven't thought of all of them or look at us like we are hiding our choice from them, genuinely we have none....at this point 'number 2' is an option so I say go for it Wink

woowoo22 · 30/12/2014 21:40

Call her Godiva and nickname her Diva a la Mapp and Lucia

EvilTwins · 30/12/2014 21:41

I have twins. I often call one or the other "the other one" It works for us.

Littlef00t · 30/12/2014 21:41

Número dos sounds rather elegant?

myotherusernameisbetter · 30/12/2014 21:43

No, you can't - No2 is slang for a poo/shit etc etc.

I prefer "Baby Girl, The sequel".

Purplepoodle · 30/12/2014 21:46

We call ours 1,2 and 3 but only when me and dh are talking about them (usually when one hold has done something)

CatCushion · 30/12/2014 21:48

How about #2 or mach 2? (Until the elder DC is nearly old enough to catch on.)

The tickers will be here soon Grin

Thanks Littlefoot, I thought so Wink

SquinkiesRule · 30/12/2014 21:53

We searched on www.ssa.gov/cgi-bin/namesbystate.cgi for names, it ranks them by how many babies were named that by state and year. It's interesting looking up the kids to see how many others used the same name in the same year.

DeWee · 30/12/2014 22:12
Grin

We only decided on a name for dd2 (despite knowing her gender) the morning while I was in labour. You've plenty of time yet. Grin

I do use "one", "two" and "three" and mine respond to that. It tends to be when we're in a hurry though and racing against time to get out of the door. So it's another way of saying "final warning, we need to go".
