"people of size" is ridiculous and confusing

I've heard this used on radio 4 a couple of times recently, can't help but role my eyes every time.

People are offended by the word fat though, so they have to say something.

It is confusing. I saw it and though it was about people with dwarfism.
Is larger or big not used so much now ?

Not very accurate since everyone has a size, but not actually confusing since everyone would know what was meant.

Ridiculous.... Not sure. There is not a nice way to say fat. I guess larger people I would be most comfortable with

I worked with a chap who said the new pc thing for problems with vision was 'optically challenged'. It's stuck with me for years

I didn't know what it meant though, until I clicked on the thread. I assumed it meant people with Achondroplasia or other forms of dwarfism.
I had just been reading about Tyrion Lannister though, maybe I wouldn't have thought that otherwise.

It was instead of obese, only known through the context it has been used in.

'People of size' is just ridiculously genius, I have never heard that before!

Most erm, 'people of size' that I know refer to themselves as 'big' or 'large' which I think is fine as 'fat' is not very nice.

What is wrong with 'obese' though, that is what it is isnt it?

I'm fat and I'm not in the least offended by the word fat. It's factually accurate.

It makes no sense "person of size". Everyone is a person of some size, just some are bigger than others.

'Fat' is descriptive and understood by most people but still is perceived as a 'bad' word.....generally by the people described by it though

Sears in the States used to sell clothes for girls of size as "Pretty Plus". There is the husky boys' department. A rather posh former boutique catered locally for women with a "regal figure". Short and simple words are best, but not politically correct.

In the film Hairspray the plus size ladies shop was called the Hefty Hideaway.

To a certain extent context is important. Mentioning a person's weight is rude, unless it's pertinent to the matter in question.

It's a daft expression. Everyone is of size be it small, medium or large. But usually people aren't described as fat or worse still obese though I suppose it's OK for a doctor or nurse to use obese I wouldn't use it.
