AIBU ask how to make life convenient?!

Sister77 · 23/12/2014 22:09

My mums come to visit.
Apparently I'm poisoning my kids because I use frozen chopped onions, frozen ginger, garlic and chillies.
They are convenient. But I only discovered them this week!
Any other tips to make my life easier?
(And really piss of mum)
I was going ton invite Aunt Bessie for Xmas dinner but my mums face!!!

Instant potato.

florentina1 · 23/12/2014 22:14

Carrot and swede mash

MonkeyPuzzler · 23/12/2014 22:16

Frozen mash !

Hatespiders · 23/12/2014 22:20

Jusrol pastry, cake mix, frozen burgers, Pot Noodles, tinned custard, carrots and potatoes. And yes, go for Aunt Bessie! Plus Uncle Ben. Very nice couple those two.

puntasticusername · 23/12/2014 22:29

Frozen mash is silver medal level, instant mash is Gold plus the Olympic record Grin

Just add Cheesestrings, Wotsits and those vile cup drinks my MIL gets in the pound shop, which have ALL THE ADDITIVES - including, I'm sure, many of those that the EU has banned for the last 30 years - and you're good to go.

Sister77 · 23/12/2014 22:57

Good idea puntastic! Forgot about the cup drinks!
And hate spiders! Uncle Ben!! How could I forget him. Wonder if him and Bessie have any kids!

Take aways

5Foot5 · 23/12/2014 23:05

I am assuming it goes without saying you have bought your stuffing and pigs in blankets ready made? Gravy ready made in a little tub.

I think Aunt Bessie does roasties as well as Yorkshires.

5Foot5 · 23/12/2014 23:07

BTW St Delia would probably validate all these options in her surprising work "How to Cheat"

Waltonswatcher · 23/12/2014 23:08

Paxo!

Passmethecrisps · 23/12/2014 23:08

Do you have need of cheese? We recently discovered pre-grayed cheese. total revelation.

Sister77 · 23/12/2014 23:09

Mums bought it all with her. Except for sainsburys ready made trifle. No one can beat sainsburys ready made fecking trifle.
I do cheat VERY often.
Aunt Bessie is a regular visitor!

Chipped frozen stuff is good in this house!

Frozen berries for smoothies..
. Chuck in frozen spinach. My kids think this is an alien smoothie and drink the lot down silly fools

GingerSkin · 23/12/2014 23:18

Microwave rice, 49p a bag in aldi. Quick, cheap and tastes better than boiled rice

Blondie1984 · 23/12/2014 23:50

Ready made custard
Frozen omelette

Blondie1984 · 23/12/2014 23:52

Those sachets of coffee that already have sugar and milk in so you just add hot water

livegoldrings · 23/12/2014 23:59

I had some Iceland xmas roast potatoes basted in goose fat today, they were really nice and crunchy.

Oceanpurple · 24/12/2014 00:00

Frozen sliced mushrooms - they're great because you can just chuck them in anything.
You could buy a couple of pot noodles and leave them in sight to send her into a mild panic attack... just kidding! Grin

puntasticusername · 24/12/2014 05:21

Oh, Aldi microwave pilau rice is truly great, though. I use it even when I don't have to, cos I just can't make rice taste that good myself.

However. In your enthusiasm for labour-saving foodstuffs, do not under any circumstances get so carried away that you buy Aldi ready-mixed Bucks Fizz. Nasty, nasty, nasty. It may be the first time in my life that I've ever poured alcohol away undrunk.

Timetoask · 24/12/2014 05:45

Please don't give your children rubbish just to annoy your MIL.

Timetoask · 24/12/2014 05:45

Or your mum!
