To find dh licking his plate clean disgusting?

He's 40 FFS.
After meals he's really enjoyed he will lick the plate. Not just once but hold it up and lick it completely clean. It's absolutely revolting and it makes me feel queasy. I don't know why but I can't stand it. He obviously doesn't do this outside of the house in a restaurant etc but what sort of model is it to ds?!

I've watched him do it this evening and it made me want to get a divorce! Slight overreaction perhaps but still, gross!

Saves on the washing up though Xmas Grin

waithorse · 10/12/2014 20:49

YANBU, it is gross. Envy

MrsBertMacklin · 10/12/2014 20:50

I hate bad table manners, YANBU. I judge his parents for not putting a stop to it at the age that it should have stopped, frankly.

hissingcat · 10/12/2014 20:51

YANBU you are also not alone. my Dh does this too. Sad

trackrBird · 10/12/2014 20:52

Eww. That's the sort of thing children do when their parents aren't looking! But not an adult, please...

Summerisle1 · 10/12/2014 20:52

Sniggering at saves on the washing up.

Xmas Grin

Got to say that I'd not really expect a 40 year old to still be licking plates though. It's not a great example for your ds apart from being a somewhat bizarre spectacle. If he must lick the plate (does he have some sort of desire to be a dog?) then quietly in the privacy of the kitchen is the place to do it. Or better still, just kick the habit.

SpringBreaker · 10/12/2014 20:52

My mum used to make the most gorgeous gravy that I would always do this, (not in her line of sight as she would have gone mad at me).

If he only does it at home, then leave him to it and take it as a compliment to your cooking. Or throw a slice of bread at him as he finishes his meal and tell him to mop it up with that instead of licking the plate. :)

susiedaisy · 10/12/2014 20:53

Yanbu that is vile makes me heave

PoppySausage · 10/12/2014 20:54

Mum and 3 girls and we all did this after stew! Every time. We knew never to do it anywhere else and I still love doing it!

OfaFrenchMind · 10/12/2014 20:54

Awww, that's cute! At least it's very complementary to whoever cooked!

Pelicangiraffe · 10/12/2014 20:54

Ask him not to do it when you can see.

Awful. I'm not surprised it turns your stomach

Jessbun16 · 10/12/2014 20:54

YANBU! DP does this as well, although he has cut down since I said I found it disgusting. It is dog like!

oswellkettleblack · 10/12/2014 20:57

That is rank.

PeppermintPasty · 10/12/2014 20:58

Ooh I just did it Xmas Blush.

In my defence I only do it when on my own and I did cook a very very tasty chilli sauce with my roasted veg and pasta tonight.

bialystockandbloom · 10/12/2014 20:59

It is fucking rank and divorce-worthy. But then I've got low tolerance, I had to leave the room when DP was grating a carrot in a particularly annoying way yesterday. But plate-licking is seriously disgusting.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 10/12/2014 21:00

YABU. It's important to have a husband with good tongue skills

bialystockandbloom · 10/12/2014 21:00

Seriously, did someone say this was "cute"? Shock

I'd be tempted to serve his dinner on the floor if he did it again.

spamanderson · 10/12/2014 21:01

My DH is 38... He licks his plate clean. Only at home mind you. I actually find it a compliment that he enjoyed my cooking so much he didn't want it to end. and it saves on doing a pre-rinse before it goes in the dishwasher :D

FreudiansSlipper · 10/12/2014 21:02

that is gross

tell him to use a piece of bread to mop up his plate

VitalStollenFix · 10/12/2014 21:06

That is revolting.

You need to get creative.

pregnantpause · 10/12/2014 21:06

Yanbu. Foul absolutely disgusting behaviour. I'd find it repulsive. How can you be attracted to him after that?!?Confused

Whowillsaveyoursoul · 10/12/2014 21:08

It's a struggle I must be honest.

Dilligufdarling · 10/12/2014 21:10

Ha! I do this if it was a really lovely meal! (Only when DS can't see though Grin)
Totally winds DH up but there's NO WAY I'm going to miss out on the last bit of whatever it was and watch it go down the sink!

elQuintoConyo · 10/12/2014 21:14

My DH licks his balls.

I dream about plates!

Fabulous46 · 10/12/2014 21:18

It makes my stomach churn thinking about anyone licking a plate. It's absolutely disgusting. There is no need to lick a plate, none at all.
