To hate they stole my Holly

I have a lovely Holly Bush, complete with red berries. Well actually I have several bushes, some with berries and some without.

These are next to a public footpath but the bushes are on my property as planted by myself and DH to edge our property quite a few years ago.

I saw someone rummaging on the other side of the edge and when I opened the front door to investigate further, they got in their car and drove off!

On perusing said said bush it was evident that clippers/secateurs had been used to prune!

This is not the first time I have been visited by green fingered foliage thiefs - some years ago at a previous home we had a full hedge of freshly planted firs stolen Shock.

(I was inspired to post by a recent thread about someone stealing their homemade door wreath, cheeky feckers).

Should I not care & just share or aibu? It is after all the season of goodwill.

What have you had stolen from under your nose?

On the one hand I would be annoyed like you Misty as I'm a keen gardener and its not nice having chunks hacked out. Just wondering if the branches were overhanging so the thieving swine person thought it was OK to nick a couple of branches that were overhanging onto a public footpath I expect they thought gahhh it's only Holly.

They must have been carrying a pair of loppers which makes me think they have a real brass neck doing that!

Hi Daisy no we trim the bushes yearly to keep them in a 'hedge shape'. She had hacked into hedge shape and left gaps.

She most probably pricked herself as its a nice tight bush and pulling single branches out is quite hard. She would have had to have a good rummage to get the branches with the berries on.

I can comfort myself that part of my bush could well be the centre piece on their dining table or mantle piece Grin

Cheeky feckers indeed. We've nit had anything stolen ( apart from ds football years ago) , but as my office is next door to a dentists we have to sometimes chase errent parkers who then claim not to have seen the 6 ft tall sign next to the car park entrance.

Oh I've been so tempted to do this myself... Blush. There's some love holly leaf bushes on a street I regularly walk down and some of them do overhang a bit into the street so I figured they'd never notice a few being chopped off and actually wanted to walk down at night to get some... But I won't, I don't think I'm brave enough anyway but this has well and truly put me off Grin.

I have some lovely roses in my front garden and I noticed over the summer that a lot of the nicer flowers had disappeared. Walking up My street I noticed one house had my very distinctive roses in a vase on their windowsill!

Why oh why do people think it is ok to take cuttings from someone else's plant?!?

My brother found a man up a ladder helping himself to ripe damsons from the hedge, shortly after moving into his new house. The hedge used to border a field but was now part of his garden - very obvious this is the case from the road.

My friends mum had a very rare and special plant grieving in her front garden. People used to open her gate, and go in to pinch cuttings.

She got so sick of it, she moved it o her back garden.

However, there is a house near me, which is the summer is totally overgrown with lily of the valley flowers. My fingers itch every time I go near it. Lily of the valley are expensive..... There are so many in that garden they are growing onto the drive and pavement....
