To hate they stole my Holly

I have a lovely Holly Bush, complete with red berries. Well actually I have several bushes, some with berries and some without.

These are next to a public footpath but the bushes are on my property as planted by myself and DH to edge our property quite a few years ago.

I saw someone rummaging on the other side of the edge and when I opened the front door to investigate further, they got in their car and drove off!

On perusing said said bush it was evident that clippers/secateurs had been used to prune!

This is not the first time I have been visited by green fingered foliage thiefs - some years ago at a previous home we had a full hedge of freshly planted firs stolen Shock.

(I was inspired to post by a recent thread about someone stealing their homemade door wreath, cheeky feckers).

Should I not care & just share or aibu? It is after all the season of goodwill.

What have you had stolen from under your nose?

So she rummaged in your tight bush and then trimmed it? Outrageous.

TeenagersDriveMeMad · 03/12/2014 09:07

Snort at Owl .

How about a strand of electric fence (attached to the mains Wink) running through the hedge? Pretty sure that would deter people!

BitOutOfPractice · 03/12/2014 09:08

Nobody wants to get a prick in their nice tight bush do they?

MistyMistletoe · 03/12/2014 09:15

Bit' are you (((((hugging))))) my bush Blush

Be careful you don't prick yourself Grin

OP posts:
BitOutOfPractice · 03/12/2014 09:25

I considered stroking it but decided there was less risk of pricks with a hug

MistyMistletoe · 03/12/2014 09:28

Nobody wants a prick in their nice tight bush do they Well Bit' I think the TTC threads generally kinda have that as their master plan looks proud at getting into the swing of smut

Someone was leaning over our the hedge in the garden at our old house, stealing the elderberries. When we asked them what they thought they were doing, they said that we never use them, and they wanted to make wine.

Certainly hoped they pricked themselves on the other bushes!!!

NewEraNewMindset · 03/12/2014 09:46

Ajand I hope you told them that they were effectively stealing from your land. Fucking ignorant bastards. If they wanted then so badly why not knock and ask?

MistyMistletoe · 03/12/2014 10:25

They could have at least brought you a bottle of their home made wine aj

Does anyone remember the MNetter who found an old lady in her gooseberry bush complaining about the lack of gooseberries that year? When the MNetter told her that that was because she'd already she'd picked and eaten her own gooseberries the woman was very put out as she had guests coming over expecting a delicious pudding.

MistyMistletoe · 03/12/2014 10:58

Mr Misty would surely be blessed 'shopgirl Wink

My DM has an unusual square holly bush. My DB trims it for her and keeps it in shape. People steal from it in the lead up to Christmas and make it the wrong shape, by Christmas Day it is all straggly and berryless.

RonaldMcDonald · 03/12/2014 11:28

I'd hate it if complete strangers felt free to rummage about in my holly bush

RobotLover68 · 03/12/2014 11:32

my friend takes cuttings from my holly bush but at least she always asks first!

Bilberry · 03/12/2014 11:46

There are some holly bushes overhanging the path near me, I always think of taking some shears with me when I go past - not because I want holly but because I would rather like to walk on the path and not the road!

Greymalkin · 03/12/2014 11:47

Yes Sock I remember the gooseberry thief thread - there was a lot of indignation!

As for the elderberry thief, you can get elder flowers/ berries in practically any hedgerow or derelict patch if scrub land or park. No need whatsoever to go meddling in other peoples bushes for their fruits [ahem]

ajandjjmum · 03/12/2014 12:32

It was years ago, we were newly weds, and not nearly as gobby as I would have been now! But they were told to go and not return.
