To send Christmas cards out now?

CruCru · 27/11/2014 14:09

I have just sent out all my Christmas cards (about 100). It was convenient to write them out over the last couple of days. I considered holding off until December before posting them but that would have meant the messages I'd written to people I am going to see over the weekend would be weird and out of date.

I am already anticipating a load of people (my Mum included) saying how early it is.

It is too early. How do you end up sending 100 cards?!

HouseofEliot · 27/11/2014 14:11

I would say it's too early yes.

misscph1973 · 27/11/2014 14:12

It is a bit early, but it must be so nice to have done them all! Also it gives people a chance to reply back, some might even see it as a helpful reminder. Personally I am very impressed by your efforts!

skylark2 · 27/11/2014 14:12

I think it's weird to write messages in Christmas cards which are specific to the last weekend in November.

I'd have written something else and waited to post them.

WerewolfBarMitzvah · 27/11/2014 14:14

YABU - it's November!

OTOH you must feel great having done them all!

CruCru · 27/11/2014 14:14

We just have a lot of family and friends. We had a big wedding and I like to send cards to the people who came to it.

All the recipients will assume that you're one of those people who is desperate to have as many cards as possible on their mantelpiece/wall to prove how popular you are, and thus sent them super-early to make sure everyone has time to send you a reciprocal one nice and early for your card display.

ShatnersBassoon · 27/11/2014 14:14

I agree that the message shouldn't be out of date by Christmas. Write a letter now if it's something that has to be said before December, then send a card nearer the time that is specifically a Christmas wish.

LizardBreath · 27/11/2014 14:15

I still have mine that I forgot to posf last year been holding off so far, might send them now! hoping people think in super organised (and forget they didn't get one last year).

CruCru · 27/11/2014 14:16

I do feel great now I've done them. I sent them second class today so they may not all arrive until Monday (the UK ones).

I also sent about 12 overseas (New Zealand, Ukraine, US and other places in Europe) and if I don't send these really early then they may not arrive until after Christmas.

Pootle bug - gosh that's an unpleasant thought. I do get irritated when people send theirs so late that I wouldn't be able to send one back (if I hadn't already done it insanely early that is).

lanbro · 27/11/2014 14:19

I wrote mine in October! Only because I was doing some work for a friend which was deadly boring, there was a Card Factory opposite so I bought some and wrote them to pass the time! Won't be posting them for a while yet though!

AnythingNotEverything · 27/11/2014 14:20

Pootle nobody thinks that.

CruCru · 27/11/2014 14:44

Ianbro - you've put me to shame.

kinkyfuckery · 27/11/2014 14:47

Not unreasonable at all. It's your choice when you send them. People don't have to retaliate so soon.
I'll hopefully get mine done in the next week or so - but I only have a couple of dozen and are mostly handed out.

InfinitySeven · 27/11/2014 14:52

I think second class is current operating in 1 - 2 weeks, so it probably won't be that early if you've sent them second.

MiddletonPink · 27/11/2014 14:52

Too early. Along with the Christmas decorations that I've seen already.

PurpleSwift · 27/11/2014 14:55

If I received one now is think it was too early. Means it'll be say on my mantelpiece for about 5 weeks!!

Purpleroxy · 27/11/2014 14:55

Yanbu.
Second class they will prob arrive around 1st Dec onwards.
Everything in December is about Christmas isn't it?!
Well done. I am dreading mine!

BadtzMaru · 27/11/2014 14:58

I wrote mine this morning, we are seeing the PILs this weekend for probably the last time before christmas due to distance and DH's work commitments so they can hand round the cards for their local family between now and christmas as and when they see them.

blibblibs · 27/11/2014 15:04

I sent my DM away with mine at half term! I'm hoping she hasn't handed them out just yet though.

CruCru · 27/11/2014 15:05

Aha. Just checked the Royal Mail latest recommended posting dates and for New Zealand it is 3 December. So not too early for the overseas cards.

OP posts:
CruCru · 27/11/2014 15:07

Second class - it is 18 December.

Davsmum · 27/11/2014 15:11

Life is so much easier when you realise you don't need to send any - and most people do not even notice you have not sent them one.

I am sending 3 this year - To people I have not seen in over 25 years.

CruCru · 27/11/2014 15:18

I love doing Christmas cards. It's the start of Christmas for me. I've done them every year from when I was little.
