To think one bath a week for an 18 year old isn't really enough?

I don't have teenagers but I was surprised when talking with a friend about her 18 year old daughter, who she was saying got tired as she was up so early and she wished she'd lie in a bit longer.

I said 'oh well I suppose she has to dry her hair and all that' and she said that she only baths once a week on Sundays.

AIBU to think this isn't much? She only 'washes' with a makeup wipe, not even a strip wash with a flannel.

I read that as 18 week old in my head and was all up for saying yabu because one bath a week is definitely enough for a small baby IMO but an 18 year old Shock, that's disgusting! She's an ADULT ffs.

Fairylea · 26/11/2014 17:05

Absolutely vile.

I'd be cutting off the wifi until they showered everyday.

Mulligrubs · 26/11/2014 17:06

If that's all she does that is disgusting! People need to was once a day whether that's a quick wash at the sink, a shower or a bath.

I'm sure loads of posters will come along saying they only wash their hair once a month and have a bath once a fortnight and never smell and they'll say YABU...

Crumpetsandbutter · 26/11/2014 17:08

To be fair she doesn't look dirty or smelly.

Mum is very fastidious about washing clothes and bedding though.

Maybe she showers at the gym or something and only bathes on da week at home?

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 26/11/2014 17:10

On da week? Thanks ipad.

ONCE A WEEK

EvansOvalPiesYumYum · 26/11/2014 17:11

Oh, gosh - she must honk! I have youngsters of similar ages at home, and they bath or shower twice a day. They need it, their hormones make them pong at that age!!

On the other hand, it is up to her Mum to deal with it, as her Mum, and not you.

LegoAdventCalendar · 26/11/2014 17:12

Yuk. No shower, no WiFi.

Crumpetsandbutter · 26/11/2014 17:14

She can't go to the gym (disabled) but she really doesn't smell, I suppose because she's not very active.

why would the wipes not keep her clean?

tilliebob · 26/11/2014 17:26

My teenagers shower every morning for as long as they possibly can then fight each other to be first in the bath most evenings. Kinda wish they did only wash once a week Wink However, they reek of BO after a day at school and their hair would both be totally minging - especially ds1 who has longer hair than DD!

BlueberryWafer · 26/11/2014 17:31

I only bath once a week. I shower te other 6 days. Are you sure she didn't mean that?

TywysogesGymraeg · 26/11/2014 17:31

Perhaps she washes under her arms and "down below" at the sink like we used to do in ye olden days?

LongDistanceLove · 26/11/2014 17:33

To be honest if she doesn't smell or is grubby, and herself is ok, then it's up to her.

RedToothBrush · 26/11/2014 17:34

Don't be so ridiculous!

Not everyone NEEDS a bath or shower every day. Not everyone smells if they don't wash daily. Even if they are aged 18. Some do, but not everyone.

You might prefer to have one, but its not necessary and its not disgusting.

How over sanitised and obsessed with germs have we become?

Janethegirl · 26/11/2014 17:35

Baby wipes may be enough if she's not very active.
Bathing or showering may be difficult for her.

Crumpetsandbutter · 26/11/2014 17:37

Yeah she just takes her makeup off with wipes.

Sweet bleedin' heart of jesus!

Really? One bath a week and she is being condemned as disgusting, vile, she honks etc.

No, she just has a bath once a week and a cat's lick on other days - just like normal people did before every house had a shower and germs became lethal as a matter of incontrovertible fact.

Well, surprise surprise... not every home really does have a shower, cat's licks are perfectly adequate, lots of skin conditions are caused by over washing, too much soap etc.

Put yer judgey knickers back in the drawer!

HighwayDragon · 26/11/2014 17:50

I shower every 5 days, my hair is too long to go a week

Sallystyle · 26/11/2014 18:02

If she doesn't smell then what is the problem?

My almost 16 year old never smells. He never went through the BO stage and he rarely gets greasy. He does shower more than once a week but he never, ever smells, unlike my other teen.

LadyLuck10 · 26/11/2014 18:05

That is absolutely vile. Once a week is disgusting whether you stink or not.

formerbabe · 26/11/2014 18:06

Shock

I would absolutely reek if I showered every 5 days!

Bakeoffcakes · 26/11/2014 18:06

If she doesn't smell or look grubby then there really isn't a problem is there?

Micah · 26/11/2014 18:10

If you hadn't been told she only bathes weekly would you have known?

We all assume anyone who doesn't smell/looks clean washes daily but I think you'd be surprised to find out who doesn't. You can't tell as much as you think you can.

Branleuse · 26/11/2014 18:10

so you assumed she showered and washed her hair daily and she doesnt smell and looks clean. I guess that means its none of anybodys business, so dont worry yourself about it.
