Haven't been on here for all that long and was wondering whether there have ever been any cases of people recognising themselves in a thread and announcing their presence. It would make excellent entertainment for the rest of us. I live in fear of an AIBU about me mainly because I'm a teacher. Wink

Not about myself, but I read a thread that was undoubtedly from the parent of a child I teach. Very difficult divorce situation.

JimmySilentHill · 30/10/2014 09:53

I'm so glad I found this site once I'd left teaching!!

I have seen my sister on here being very mean about my mum Sad and getting lots of sympathy even though it in real life it was undeserved.

GingerSkin · 30/10/2014 09:59

I've seen someone I know on here and also read a different story to what was actually going on. I dealt with it off MN as it wasn't appropriate to have a public argument.

I think any issue / thread is about perspective isn't it - there'll be your story, their story and the truth.

ladeedad · 30/10/2014 09:59

Not about me specifically, but it was a complaining thread from a client in a legal case I was researching.

It didn't affect their case directly, but it was good to see that MN'ers were backing up what we had been telling the client all along!

ChasedByBees · 30/10/2014 10:02

I've seen a soon-to-be-ex husband come on to attack his wife who was an MNer. He gave a twisted version of events (apparently) to get sympathy so that he could show his wife how much support he got. The DW came on. It was messy.

Pagwatch · 30/10/2014 10:05

I have stumbled across threads about me but only about 'Pagwatch' not about real life me iyswim.
The best one went to three threads with a couple of posters saying that I, and a few other recognisable regulars, were massive bullies.
I nearly left. But the op was a twat so I didn't. < shrug>

dingdongdonna · 30/10/2014 10:07

Chasedbybees I remember that one! Everyone turned on the guy fairly quickly once DW came on!

I've recognised someone. Their version of events matched dates, descriptions, quite specific details, but the actual essence of what they'd written was wrong (she got a shit ton of YANBUs but having watched the actual situation unfold in RL, she was BVVVVVVVU!)

fabricfreeshiner · 30/10/2014 10:51

I've recognised someone, and again it was taken out of context. In real life she was getting daily verbal abuse in the AIBU anything she said to defend herself against the abuse was used against her.

I didn't say anything on here or in real life, it was a horrible situation all around. Luckily it's all smoothed over now and everyone is talking again.

fabricfreeshiner · 30/10/2014 10:52

Sorry in real life she was getting abuse, but if she tried to defend herself her words were used out of context/twisted in the AIBU

slightlyworriednc · 30/10/2014 11:06

I often wonder if people are massively unreasonable in real life! Like when they say, "I asked my neighbour to turn down the music and he called me a cunt" and of course everyone says YANBU...but perhaps the poor neighbour is sitting there thinking, "But you poisoned my cat and firebombed my ice cream van, and music is the only way I can numb the pain."

DuelingFanjo · 30/10/2014 11:23

Someone once recognised me and sent links to my posts in an email to a family member. Never knew who it was. Still gets talked about (behind my back) now. Was a bit of a terrible time really.

NickiFury · 30/10/2014 11:24

Not about me but I have recognised someone and was recognised by my SIL.

NickiFury · 30/10/2014 11:26

Oh and my ex sometimes comes on and posts preposterous threads about really sexist stuff. I know he just does it to get a reaction so ignore entirely.

ooerrmissus · 30/10/2014 11:30

I've recognised someone on here. She was talking shite about taking legal action against a company. She have a very skewed version of events.

ooerrmissus · 30/10/2014 11:30

Gave

MardyBra · 30/10/2014 11:33

No. But I've been keeping a eye out in case SIL has posted this week.

She is definitely BU. I don't need to brave Aibu to work that out.

MardyBra · 30/10/2014 11:34

Paggy. I can't believe you got grief. I don't think I've ever seen you post anything mean or unjustified.

MardyBra · 30/10/2014 11:35

"I've recognised someone on here. She was talking shite about taking legal action against a company. She have a very skewed version of events."

I do wonder what's been missed out on a lot of threads.

Pagwatch · 30/10/2014 11:40

It was 'bullying' via posters knowing each other. You know the sort of thread Mardy..
I'm a cow sometimes but I hope I've never bullied anyone.

It must be v weird to see one version of rl events played out on here. Do people say? How do you not? I'd burst Grin

mommy2ash · 30/10/2014 11:50

Not on this site but a different one. a friend had taken a comment I had made and twisted it into something else and there were pages upon pages ripping into my parenting and patting my poor friend on the back for having to put up with me. I didn't comment at the time as I was really hurt by it. it really makes me conscious of the fact that you are only getting one side of the story when I read posts now.

rosdearg · 30/10/2014 11:55

yes, I am lemon drizzle atrocious cunt

ILovePud · 30/10/2014 11:56

I've often wondered this, my friends don't know that I musmsnet. It's funny to think you could be on here arguing with someone your know IRL, both oblivious to that fact.

raltheraffe · 30/10/2014 12:12

Sometimes I see a title and think oh crap someone has started a thread about me, but once I read the top post I just realise it is a similar situation and not referring to me.

Grimfox · 30/10/2014 12:19

I've been 99% sure I've recognised a friend in a relationships thread. I was so sure it was her that I stopped reading, as it would've felt weird to continue IYSWIM.
