Ds just look an empty 30ml bottle of hand sanatizer out of my bag without me realising and licked round the top. I had meant to throw it away I feel so guilty. Will he be ok? Should I call out of hours? He must gghave literally just got a taste of iit and wouldn't have swallowed any more as it was empty. Sad

It tastes so vile I'm sure he barely touched it. I'd not fret.

CaptainSinker · 24/10/2014 19:57

Doesn't sound like something to worry about. Unless he seems unwell I'd leave it.

ArabellaTarantella · 24/10/2014 19:57

Oh FFS, use a bit of common sense. Why would you call out of hours? He'll be fine.

Aeroflotgirl · 24/10/2014 19:59

Should be absolutely fine, ds 2.7 has done that and lucked the toilet too Envy

ArabellaTarantella · 24/10/2014 20:00

I am sorry if I sounded harsh, but I really do wonder what happened to common sense these days. Are you a particularly anxious person?

HillyandHally · 24/10/2014 20:00

Ah don't worry he'll be fine. If that's the worse he's licked in 16mo you're doing well!

hollie84 · 24/10/2014 20:00

Call OOH and say what? Do you think a lick of hand sanitiser will have poisoned him?

keeptheballrolling · 24/10/2014 20:01

Yes Hollie...

keeptheballrolling · 24/10/2014 20:01

And yes I'm a very anxious person

Obviously she thinks a lick might have poisoned him or she wouldn't be worried. It won't, I've licked it loads and I'm ok twitch

keeptheballrolling · 24/10/2014 20:04

I gave him a drink of water and cleaned his face and checked his mouth and it would seem he got nothing more than a lick

LittleprincessinGOLDrocks · 24/10/2014 20:04

He will be absolutely fine. He will have only had a tiny bit on his tongue, it won't be enough to do anything to him. No different than if you had used it on your hands then fed him a snack. Honestly he will be ok.

Lilicat1013 · 24/10/2014 20:04

My son is autistic and when he was younger used to constantly try and chew through bottles. He got hold of the hand sanitizer more than once and he is fine. Don't worry about it your son will be fine.
Everyone has these panic moments, I remember going nuts over a small fall my son had. A lovely nurse reassured me over the phone.

keeptheballrolling · 24/10/2014 20:04

But I was worried because of the alcohol levels and chemicals

gamerchick · 24/10/2014 20:05

It'll be fine don't worry. How many people use these then eat with their fingers?

Chuck it out, they're rubbish anyway and the reason noro flies through the population.

DontWannaBeObamasElf · 24/10/2014 20:09

What does it say on the bottle? Does it say to seek medical advice? Otherwise I'd say that it won't be anything to worry about, it's a product that people use before eating any so I don't think there would be too many nasties in it.

keeptheballrolling · 24/10/2014 20:12

It does say if swallowed, seek medical advice... I'm assuming it means if lots it swallowed though..

OP posts:
keeptheballrolling · 24/10/2014 20:13

Should I call ooh just to be safe?

OP posts:
LittleprincessinGOLDrocks · 24/10/2014 20:14

The alcohol levels and chemicals in a small lick will be tiny, beyond tiny, please try not to worry.
I would be worried had he drank a few mouthfuls - at that point I would have said ring for advice, but honestly a lick will not contain enough alcohol to do any harm to him. Please try not to worry.
How does he seem in himself?

LittleprincessinGOLDrocks · 24/10/2014 20:16

I wouldn't no, not unless he seemed unwell. They mean if they have swallowed a few mouthfuls, as then it is in their system more than it will be from a tiny lick. Honestly keep I am sure he will be absolutely fine.

Alsoflamingo · 24/10/2014 20:16

All these products are harmless unless you really neck bottles at a time. My DD once drank 1/3 of a bottle of rinse aid and I got v. panicky, but was really put at ease when I called NHS direct. They got me to give her some milk (she was a toddler) to flush it through the system. Apparently they know about these risks so unless it has a skull and crossbones on the label (like bleach) you can pretty much relax. And you are talking a lick!!!

Wishtoremainunknown · 24/10/2014 20:17

Don't be ridiculous. Ofcourse it won't hurt him.
It tastes vile though. I've used eat and eaten with my fingers afterwards. Ugh. Just offer a drink.

OttiliaVonBCup · 24/10/2014 20:17

There's is a PFB thread running now.
OP, you're welcome there.
Grin

EmilyGilmore · 24/10/2014 20:18

Oh my word, are you serious? You need to really let this one go. He will soon be doing far worse.

I will give you my house if it has any effect on him other than making him a bit wary of hand sanitizer.

As for feeling so guilty - come on OP, pull yourself together Smile

Wishtoremainunknown · 24/10/2014 20:18

If you call ooh over this I think they will be more worried about you than him. Are you keeping the anxiety controlled ok ?
