AIBU to hate school dress up days

We have had notification that children in need will be a dress up day with the theme superheroes. Why oh why can they not pick an option which enables the wearing of home clothes.

I am a lone parent running my own business that offers 24/7 emergency care to be frank I have enough to do as it is.

Normal clothes plus a super hero style mask - you cut out the mask and DCs colour it?

Do you have any superhero tshirts or pjs?

Children in needd is ages away, can you really not get to town,supermarket or online shop before?

If not invent a superhero?

Maybe they thought it would be easy as many kids would have a costume fitting that theme? Have you no costumes that would do? People don't stick rigidly to themes.

Are you sure that the option of home clothes is not available? We had this last week but it said super heroes or normal clothes which seemed reasonable, and seemed like there were half and half in outfits and normal.

No superhero pjs, mask or anything in this house. 10 year girl whose life is musical theatre superheros do not feature.
Money is also tight as lone parent with Ex who contributes little resent sending my little bit of pocket money on an outfit that will never ever be worn again.
Why should I spend my tiny bit of leisure time doing this in the 28 day period to this coming Friday I will have had one day completely off.

Have you got any facepaint? Paint an eye mask on?

We have a similar theme, superheroes/villains but the option to wear their own clothes.

Does she have a hero/heroine in MT? I would adapt it to be a hero/heroine.

BTW, what is it in the past week or two to do superheroes? It's everywhere.

You can print masks off online to decorate or colour in.

Alternatively how about a nurse or a doctor?

Thankfully mine are Secondary so not so much of the dress up days.
But IIRC we did Spotty Clothes for CiN day

Yes spotty clothes. Which are plentiful if you have a girl but like unicorn shit if you have a boy.

Often sticking paper cut out spots onto clothes at 8am.

I know, they can dress up at home, why do they have to give so much work to parents, they already have to read and do the times tables with them, and this is on top. Just go to school in normal clothes and learn stuff.

I agree with printing off a mask. Not you, your daughter. She's old enough to do that herself, so minimal effort needed from you.

At least you got a few weeks notice, with half term in between. I remember the days of notes home on a Weds about dress up day on the Fri.

My dD had only just started school but I'm dreading fancy dress days. I hate fancy dress, an it's worn off onto my DD who also hates to dress up

No, YANBU. I hate them. Dd doesn't even like them either.

If you have any artist acrylics to hand, you could always paint a super hero logo on a white t-shirt. They act as great fabric paints. (Did it for children in need as well - used sticky back plastic as spot templates)

I love dressing up days in general, but some of the themes are a bit narrow IMO. We had a sports one once, and neither of mine had anything suitable that they wanted to wear.

Would a nurse, firefighter and other things like that be classed as a super hero.

Hmm, dress up as your favourite saint is just conjuring images of children tied to wheels (Catherine) or stabbed with arrows (Sebastian).

I'd carry keys and go as St Peter, or a bird for St Francis of Assisi.

That's what I mean noble.

I'm not religious at all but gutted our school doesn't do this.
