We have had notification that children in need will be a dress up day with the theme superheroes. Why oh why can they not pick an option which enables the wearing of home clothes.

I am a lone parent running my own business that offers 24/7 emergency care to be frank I have enough to do as it is.

DS is in nursery and we have had a few dress up days already, two superhero costumes (unfortunately he had grown a size and couldn't squeeze into first costume), any costume, WBD, pyjama day and Halloween coming up.

My tip for children in need is to buy circle stickers and stick them on to any t-shirt. www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=Circle+stickers+

I actually have the large white stickers and just colour them in. Black marker coloured + red tee and black bottoms = ladybird... When we were at school my sister had form for one days notice, normally 8pm the night before and I would be the one sorting out the costumes, I learnt to be resourceful! We went to different secondary schools. If you have notice, ebay is a good way to get cheap supplies.

Btw this shop does iron on tshirt transfers for less then £2.

Hope I don't come across as a know-it-all! Smile

Actually our very last school dress up day prior to seniors was a cat in the arse theme - ds2 went as ' thing 1 ' a red onesie which I had to buy which he still wears and a cut out circle with 'thing' 1, and a blue wig made out of a blue swimming pool shoe cover with blue wool drawn through the - thank goodness its all over now!

'cat in the hat ' Blush

SirChenjin · 20/10/2014 12:09

I think I preferred 'cat in the arse' Grin

I would be quite happy if schools nixed (or dramatically reduced) the time-consuming, non-educational crap, and instead had higher expectations for reading with your child, doing extra maths practice with your child, looking at maps/atlases/textbooks/newspapers with your child, doing extra writing practice with your child.... If they want money, just ask for a bloody donation once a term--done!

SirChenjin · 20/10/2014 12:45

Totally agree.

Our Govt up here in Scotland is obsessed with all things Scots, so I would also like to see a ban on Robbie Fucking Burns and all projects relating to him and tartan. Waste of bloody time, and such a backward view of our country.
