To give up on the MN mobile site?

It's driving me mad. The constantly moving options bar rarely responds to what I try to select so I spend my time navigating away from the damn ads that it has gone to. Or alternatively giving up on trying to post or catch up with threads.

I know the ads keep MN free but they rarely are for anything that interests me so they are just spoil the MN experience. I'm sticking to using the desktop site on my mobile.

Same here - I gave up ages ago. My iPhone seems to have other ideas and regularly defaults to the mobile site. I suppose the bonus is that I spend far less time on here than I used to!

FourthMary · 18/10/2014 09:03

It doesn't work properly for me either. If a post has multiple pages, the option of just jumping to the last page has disappeared, very annoying.

Is it the app? I use the mobile site but disable JavaScript. It stops the ad being able to run and anything that moves (ie ads that flash or jump around) can't work.

Makes it so much easier.

I will try and screenshot an explanation Grin

Same here. I gave up ages ago. Why they needed to change it I don't know. Spoils my bed time reading now. I have to read a book instead!

CelibacyCakeAndElevatorMuzac · 18/10/2014 09:11

Actually ignore that

It's fine for lurking but not if you want to post and interact

Works ok on my Android, Samsung Galaxy Ace running Chrome browser.

Actually quite like it now that I am used to how it works.

Pity 3g reception is so bad in many areas I go.

Bunbaker · 18/10/2014 09:17

I don't have a problem with it. I don't use the app and have a Galaxy S3.

tuesday0813 · 18/10/2014 09:23

I don't use the app. I've got a galaxy note and chrome

DoughnutSelfie · 18/10/2014 09:28

I prefer the mobile site to the app (android phone)

Block popups, disable cookies.

mustbetimeforacreamtea · 18/10/2014 09:40

No it's not the app. I've got a geriatric Galaxy which defaults to the mobile version when you go online.

It's a waste of time. Maybe if we post in site stuff they might get a man with a spanner to do something?

I rather hoped the offline thing last Saturday meant they were tinkering to make it actually work, but seemingly not.

If dd is using the laptop (from where I am posting now) I go to MN on the phone, leave it for an hour or so while I go and do something else, then if I'm really really lucky, I will get Active up.

But yes, trying to actually post is useless.

Perfectlypurple · 18/10/2014 09:48

I hated it when it first changed and switched to the app but tried the mobile site again the other day and it is just like the old mobile site for speed etc for me.

LittleMissGreen · 18/10/2014 09:53

The screen on my phone is fairly small and that stupid moveable bar seems to fill most of it up so can't scroll the screen properly. Pretty much given up on using it now.

LittleMissGreen · 18/10/2014 09:55

However, as it has just taken more than 10seconds for that post to post on here, and then load the adverts I'm not convinced that the main site is much better!

I have no idea which site I use on my phone, but I don't have the movable bar when I access MN on my phone.

Is it anything to do which software the phone uses?

Android user here BTW

Cheepypeepy · 18/10/2014 16:31

iPhone here, how do you find chat in topics???

PfftTheMagicDraco · 18/10/2014 16:43

Can't be as bad as the app.

tethersend · 18/10/2014 16:48

I don't mind it now apart from the bar which scrolls up and then jumps back when you scroll... It sort of 'sticks'. It makes it unusable.

Bunbaker · 18/10/2014 16:52

I get a menu across the bottom of my phone on MN: Active, Watching, Home, I'm On and Search. I thought everyone got this.

tethersend · 18/10/2014 17:05

That's it- that menu bar is the one which scrolls and moves.

Bunbaker · 18/10/2014 17:06

It stays put on my phone.

tethersend · 18/10/2014 17:15

Bully for you Grin

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 18/10/2014 17:18

My Iphone keeps defaulting back to it too, bloody annoying, I much prefer desktop.

Redcoats · 18/10/2014 17:22

The bar at the bottom is too big and annoying, and the ads are intrusive.
I don't like that you can't easily get to active unless you're logged in.
And the posting box is too small

That said, I don't have any problems using it. Sooooo much better than the app.
