I am thinking it will mean many different things to many different people.

What does it mean to you? (in terms of 'Sexual Pervert')

OP posts:
ChildrenOfTheDamned · 17/10/2014 18:35

Paedophile, rapist, someone with a damaging (and usually illegal) sexual interest.

NewEraNewMindset · 17/10/2014 18:36

Someone with a twisted sense of what is appropriate sexually.

ClapHandsIfYouBelieveInFatties · 17/10/2014 18:41

Yes...someone whose idea of what is sexy, is wrong to most of society.

So socially unacceptable fancies....flashing, taking photos up skirts, looking through windows...that kind of thing and worse.

partialderivative · 17/10/2014 18:41

I think that is a fair response ChildrenOfTheDamned

But then would you classify someone who just has an 'interest' in such activities as being a pervert?

OP posts:

looking through windows

Funny you should say that, but then this isn't a TAAT

OP posts:

Are all 'perverts' dangerous?

OP posts:
Vitalstatistix · 17/10/2014 18:51

someone who is depraved and who does things that are revolting.

PiperIsOrange · 17/10/2014 18:57

Any body who commits a sexual assault, this could be mild such as smacking some one arse to more sever such as rape.

Spadequeen · 17/10/2014 18:59

Using feathers is kinky, the whole chicken perverted!

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 17/10/2014 18:59

What do you mean by just having an interest in Paedophilia and rape? You mean someone who fantasises about it but doesn't do it? Yes, that would fit the criteria. Why are you asking?
For me, I wouldn't use the word pervert to describe a rapist or paedophile. I tend to associate it with deviant or fetishistic preferences, not in a particularly derogatory way. A rapist is a rapist, not a pervert.

ithoughtofitfirst · 17/10/2014 19:02

Harmless pervert.

WineWineWine · 17/10/2014 19:02

Unacceptable or illegal sexual behaviour.

For consenting adults - pretty much anything goes.

KissesBreakingWave · 17/10/2014 19:04

Away from the natural course of things. In a sexual context, anything not done purely for reproductive purposes. With the lights off. And no more clothing removed than STRICTLY NECESSARY.

MaidOfStars · 17/10/2014 19:04

Same here. Someone who sniffs bicycle seats is a pervert. A rapist is a rapist.

splendide · 17/10/2014 19:06

I think I reject it as a concept really. Most people certainly don't use it to mean just things that are damaging to others and/or unlawful. If you rely on the law as the arbiter then I'm a pervert in some jurisdictions but not others.

ArabellaTarantella · 17/10/2014 19:07

That's not a pervert........unless he does it to everyone he meets. Just one smack on one arse is not a pervert.

WineWineWine · 17/10/2014 19:11

Whose definition of revolting?

PiperIsOrange · 17/10/2014 19:12

In the context of being in a pub or club and a man or women does it to try and pull.

Vitalstatistix · 17/10/2014 19:15

The laws

Vitalstatistix · 17/10/2014 19:16

We were asked what the word means to us.

Bowlersarm · 17/10/2014 19:21

A sexual pervert to me would be....an older man leering at young teenage girls, imagining their bodies and having sex with them. Although they, would never act on that.

Or a sexual act that might seem more extreme and 'perverted' than the norm.

Why, OP?

Bowlersarm · 17/10/2014 19:22

Oh, I think perverts definitely are not dangerous.

ouryve · 17/10/2014 19:24

Someone with sexual interests which are illegal - paedophilia, bestiality, necrophilia, rape etc.

odyssey2001 · 17/10/2014 19:26

It is important to distinguish between someone who a pervert and a deviant. I don't think whether they have followed through with their desires is relevant. Someone who is perverted has a twisted view of sexuality but someone who is a deviant takes it much further in my opinion. Therefore rapists, paedophiles, necrophiles and those who engage in bestiality fall under the later category but voyeurs and seat sniffers etc are perverts in my opinion. I think someone needs to be hurt (or have the potential to get hurt) in either category. Therefore those into s&m are fetishists and not either category.

odyssey2001 · 17/10/2014 19:28

p.s. I do get the irony of implying those into s&m don't get hurt but I meant someone hurting someone else, either physically or mentally, against their will.
