What does the word 'Pervert' mean to you?

I am thinking it will mean many different things to many different people.

What does it mean to you? (in terms of 'Sexual Pervert')

OP posts:
firesidechat · 17/10/2014 19:31

A pervert is someone who is sexually aroused by something very, very out of the norm or considered seriously weird by the vast majority of the population. It isn't something that is necessarily illegal though.

splendide · 17/10/2014 19:31

Again I'd ask whether people who are relying on these to define it think it changes depending on country?

firesidechat · 17/10/2014 19:33

No, not all perverts are dangerous.

Iwantmyparcel · 17/10/2014 19:35

You can be perverted an rapist.

I'd say it was someone who has sexual desires that are beyond what is socially acceptable and probably illegal.

sykadelic · 17/10/2014 20:28

I think my distinction would be something someone does (of an overtly sexual nature) that makes you uncomfortable or creeps you out but isn't otherwise harmful. Once it reaches some sort of emotional/physical harm then it's criminal.

wantstolickwilliamgraham · 17/10/2014 20:32

Someone who is 'deviant' (to me i guess, depends on the person) in kinks. Like the guys that fucked cars, like people who buy used knickers off ebay.

wantstolickwilliamgraham · 17/10/2014 20:33

I would't classify a pedophile or rapist as a pervert, pervert seems lesser somehow and dimishes the words to me- they're cunting pedophiles and rapists, I can't put on parr with a knicker sniffer or pant thief.

wantstolickwilliamgraham · 17/10/2014 20:34

Yes sykadelic described it well, once criminal it's beyond perversion imo.

TiggyD · 17/10/2014 20:37

Depend on who's saying it. Gay people get called pervert. People who like Centreparcs sex get called it. I would say it's vanilla to kinky but with an element of wrongness about it. The wrongness is key.

lomega · 17/10/2014 21:27

I always thought a pervert (or 'perve') was just someone letchy? I.e. men wolf whistling at a woman walking down the street! My interpretation of the word now seems so twee and tame compared to some of yours! hides in bubble

I think 'sex pest', 'sex predator' or 'molester' sound much, much worse and conjure up more horrid associations.

ClapHandsIfYouBelieveInFatties · 17/10/2014 23:28

Sex pest always sounds minor to me...like it's slangy and a bit silly...that's because a "pest" is a minor irritant like a fly or a mouse.

A person who is hassling for sex...is a predator. Not a pest.

SolidGoldBrass · 17/10/2014 23:37

'Pervert' to me mostly means being into BDSM or other paraphilias, and a word that's used in a lighthearted way to refer to people who either have sex alone/with objects or with consenting partners.

poolomoomon · 18/10/2014 07:45

To me a pervert is someone who commits the lower level sex crimes so groping, flashing, peeping Tom's etc. Or those who make inappropriate comments about a woman's appearance on a regular basis or leer at women.

I wouldn't associate the word pervert with rapists or pedophiles. They're utterly depraved.

merrymouse · 18/10/2014 07:51

I think the word is over used.

I don't care what consenting adults do between themselves.

I care about what people do to people who haven't given their consent or aren't in a position to give consent.

partialderivative · 18/10/2014 16:20

Why, OP?

Good question Bowlersarm , and I am not sure I can answer.

T
There are still large parts of our community that may see homosexuality as acts of perversion. Hopefully this is getting smaller.

Boundries shift with education and revision.

Are the boundaries we seem to have set within Western society to be taken as written in stone?

OP posts:
Nomama · 18/10/2014 16:57

But as not all perversions are sexual... I don't equate pervert with sex.

Mainly odd, out of the ordinary, socially unacceptable behaviours - not necessarily illegal or harmful, just odd, not true as in lie or corrupted, not true to its origins.

EBearhug · 18/10/2014 17:41

People who like Centreparcs sex get called it.

I realise I may regret asking this - and I've never been to a Centreparcs, so it might be a dumb question. Didn't realise they were about sex. But...

What is Centreparcs sex?

Nomama · 18/10/2014 18:01

If you find out, EBear, let me know. I have no idea either!

TiggyD · 18/10/2014 18:12

Just realised it's actually called Center Parcs with "Centre" deliberately misspelt. Shock

EBearhug · 18/10/2014 18:15

Yes, yes, Tiggy, I'd usually be worrying about the spelling (and I did wonder about it with my last post - I assumed it's American rather than misspelt) but enough of all that - what is Centre/Center Parcs sex?

TiggyD · 18/10/2014 18:33

The "Parcs" bit I strangely find a bit less annoying as it's an obvious typo and not an americanism.

merrymouse · 18/10/2014 19:00

Parcs is french - which is odd because centre is french too but they spell it center.

Not sure about pervert, but that is definitely very, very perverse.

merrymouse · 18/10/2014 19:06

I wonder if the same people also like to have sex at Kwik Fit?

TiggyD · 18/10/2014 19:08

"Parcs is french" So is Brie, but I wouldn't want to have a holiday inside one.

Thefishewife · 18/10/2014 19:36

Men who date very young girls barely legal

The man to tried to grab my lady on the train in 1999

The man I caught masturbating in the bush when jogging two years ago at 6am I have not been jogging since

And people who marry in instead of out meaning people who marry family members I think that is just grim and a little perverted that you can feel sexual attraction to someone you has the same bold line as you lye alone act on it
