Aibu to think WHY are they on? Only to dilute the Judy F fiasco from yesterday? I can't listen to these girls

I was disgusted by Judy's comments and the fact that nobody on the panel challenged them. It was a relief when Sheila Hancock came on and spoke some sense.

A lot of people seem to be missing the point - he was found guilty and is a convicted rapist. That means a judge and jury have listened to the facts (and as rape has such a low conviction rate, I'm guessing these were pretty clear cut) and they have found him guilty.

The question is whether a convicted rapist who has served his sentence should be allowed to return to his high profile career. Whether she is a 'worthy' victim should not be under discussion.

I think it's going to be a topic on Julia Hartley-Brewer's show this afternoon so will be interesting to hear what people are saying but worry that many will have Judy's view.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 14/10/2014 12:20

Sorry charitybelle just want to point out I completely agree with you, I'm just saying that I would think more of him if he apologised to the victim and then made his own argument for getting his job back, rather than sending his family to do it for him.

I do not believe he should get his job back, of course. But he should make his own case for it and not hide behind the supposed 'media friendly' approach of sending two female rape apologists on TV to do it for him.

itispersonal · 14/10/2014 12:59

I don't get why all this focus on Evans and he shouldn't ever play football again!

Other footballers have gone to prison after committing horrendous crimes and continue playing.... Lee Hughes .... Manslaughter killing 2 people I think in a car crash while he was drunk and left the scene of the accident.

Marlon king is a another.. on his 3rd prison sentence, one of which included sexual assault.

I also agree with judy and Richard dawkins, yes being rape is a hideous crime and you're violated either way but being rape at knife point, gang rapes or continually raped by family etc has got to be worse than being too drunk and therefore hadn't consented to the sex. Not sayin this is the fact here as I don't know the full details of the case. whether she was too drunk and unaware and therefore unable to consent, or it was forced against her will

Charitybelle · 14/10/2014 13:25

itis why do we need to qualify which types of rape are worse? He's a rapist, end of.
We don't get into these semantics over murder. Was the murder victim drunk, on drugs, had they invited the murderer into their room before they were murdered? None of that matters cos they're still dead. Ched Evans victim was still raped, but I'm sure she feels very lucky every day that it wasn't a 'violent rape' lucky girl.....
And being 'unable to consent' is the same as being 'forced against your will'. In both scenarios the victim is left with no choice in the matter.
Also, I don't want you to think I can't see your point. I just disagree entirely.

WowserBowser · 14/10/2014 13:35

But those players shouldn't be playing either - itis

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 14/10/2014 13:36

Itis-Ruth challenged Judy's comments.

And in a fucked up way she may actually be grateful that he now will be more likely not to cheat.

Urgh, the whole thing is just so awful.

Newdawnforever · 14/10/2014 14:14

Sick but not surprising that his sister supports him as rapists are raised that way so she was brought up with the same sociopathic, entitlement mentality. As for his girlfriend, a stupid, pathetic gold digger like herself will do anything to keep her golden egg, she doesn't have morality or standards so they're well suited in that sense.

I think it's outrageous that a rapist and his despicable excusers should be given a public megaphone to bully his victim, call her a liar, say she deserved it and claim him the victim. How is that kind of public bullying campaign against a victim even legal??????! Could she sue for slander?

As for his ridiculous sentence; he should have had twenty years at least. Then his victim wouldn't be subjected to this nonsense and he would have reason to not risk doing something so hideous again.

Alwaysforever2009 · 14/10/2014 15:38

I watched this and it's pretty obvious that she's only standing by him because of the money he earns and the lifestyle they have . What normal woman would put up with that from a guy if he didn't have money he'd be out the door ,but that would mean no more luxury holidays big houses expensive cars and beauty treatments everyday for her if she didn't stand by him .
Greed pure and simple

notagainffffffffs · 14/10/2014 15:46

Judy finnigan is a ridiculously fucking stupid woman. Shes over taken katie hopkins in the national dickhead awards title imo

ithoughtofitfirst · 14/10/2014 16:00

What the fuck was she even on about? Such a non point.

mymummademelistentoshitmusic · 14/10/2014 16:06

The girlfriend? Thick as pigshit yet wily enough to realise no other footballer (rapist or not) will touch her with a bargepole.
The sister - exactly as newdawnforever said a few posts up.
Stupid, deluded, bints.

sanfairyanne · 14/10/2014 16:11

is this the way it goes now?
convicted sex offenders defended on national tv
who next?
Hmm Hmm Hmm Confused Confused Confused Hmm Hmm Hmm

Bambambini · 14/10/2014 23:17

Looks like Sheffield might be taking him back. I wonder how the fans will react - I would hate to see a standing ovation for his return but I wouldn't be surprised.

motherofmonster · 14/10/2014 23:36

Couldn't help but wonder if she would be standing by him if be was a bin man wanting to keep his 15k a year job?
would also worry what sort of message it sends to kids who hero worship footballers? It seems alot of footballers feel a entitlement to be able have sex and that the woman should be grateful for it and automatically up for it. That they should get away or be forgiven for things because if their wealth or social status.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 15/10/2014 00:06

I'm not going to fall out with it, (This morning) as I actually quite like it,m when I get the chance to watch it, but shame on them for allowing them on, defending a dirty rapist.!!!!"
They should be castrated (rapists). All that crap he's done is time, doesn't and will not wash. That poor poor girl will carry a life sentence. WHY THE FUCK SHOULDN'T HE. and if he can't see he has done anything wrong, then we have more of a problem than I though we had. Let these dirty beasts out so early is becoming a safe guarding issue now!!!

sashh · 15/10/2014 00:55

Other footballers have gone to prison after committing horrendous crimes and continue playing.... Lee Hughes .... Manslaughter killing 2 people I think in a car crash while he was drunk and left the scene of the accident.

I don't think he spent all his time in prison saying he was set up by a biased jury, that the victims 'trapped him', that he is innocent even though he said in court what he had done.

I don't think his gf and family spent months hurling abuse at his victims and getting their own criminal records for abuse on twitter.

I think he actually acknowledges the fact it happened and that he regretted it.

Yes I know someone died who should not have, I know that is a crime.

Thebodyloveschocolateandwine · 15/10/2014 01:39

So disappointed in Judy who I did have a lot of respect for.

As for the gf of this rapist I think Motherofmonster has it spot on.

Rebecca2014 · 15/10/2014 08:56

How can Ched Evans be allowed to play again when he is not remorseful for his actions? he is still claiming he is innocent. I am sure his victim is hating all the press coverage he is getting, now people are asking "What type of rape is worse."

PumpkinPieInTheSky · 15/10/2014 09:15

wht is wrong with the world?

CeliaFate · 15/10/2014 10:56

I'm waiting for the ITV series - Alleyway, Toilets, Hotel. Three lucky girls get to pick where they'd most like to be raped by a handsome footballer. The one who drinks the most chooses first.

Joy5 · 15/10/2014 12:21

As a life-long supporter of Ched Evan's football team, I'm a member of the group objecting to the club signing him again.

Not sure how to post the link, but please sign the petition against the club giving him his job back. No one else guilty of a crime would get their job back, why is it different for him?

Shame on ITV for giving publicity to Evan's girlfriend, she might not want to face the truth about her boyfriend, but that's no reason to give her air time.

Have ITV given equal air-time to a rape expert or group this week. I doubt it looking at their web-site, but they have to a convict's partner and sister.

An awful lot of people will never visit bramall lane again, if the club re-sign him.

skylark2 · 15/10/2014 12:36

"We don't get into these semantics over murder."

Well, yes, we do. Not all murderers are given the same sentence.

It's difficult. How do we address that there are degrees of awfulness for a crime without being seen to belittle the lower end of the scale? I'm not sure it's even possible. But I also think that there is a difference in seriousness between a rape which involves extreme violence and one which involves not getting proper informed consent. Absolutely NOT in the sense that the second "doesn't count" because it could have been worse though.

I don't think his club should re-sign him.

TheCraicDealer · 15/10/2014 13:11

In principle, I don’t think that offenders should be automatically barred from returning to their jobs (or any jobs) once released from prison. Otherwise, what’s the point in releasing them, or trying to rehabilitate them in any way?

However, in instances like this I can’t believe the club are entertaining the idea of having him back. The god-like adoration that football fans and wannabe WAGS treat footballers with helped enable him to do this, to think of a woman as a commodity that he could use and then discard and that there would be no consequences for his actions. Although the men in the stands who watch him might not expect to have the backing of a football club in the event of being charged with rape, seeing him treat a woman as a piece of meat just adds to the trickle-down effect where women are seen as cock-fodder rather than people.

Whether he thinks it or not, he’s a role model and a public figure. He is not ‘just a footballer’, and that’s what sets him apart to me. Like it or not, footballers have a lot of influence on quite a significant section of our society, and in that section attitudes towards women are really pretty crap. You just need to look at sites like Lad Bible to get a taste of it. We need to have some sort of line in the sand where sports teams agree, “we don’t want these men as ambassadors for our team, they’re dinosaurs and they do not represent us”. Will it happen? I bloody hope so.
