i have name changed as this will out me.

My boss commented today that me putting house all cleaned on Facebook, while I'm off on the sick from a cleaning job could set a bad image. The thing is DH and I do it together and I am able to rest as and when needed and doing light cleaning.

I said that DH does most of the work.

Was I wrong putting that on Facebook

Why would you want to put on Facebook that your house is cleaned?
Who could possibly be interested?

SecretSpy · 10/10/2014 21:35

You need to change your privacy settings. It's got SFA to do with them but you would be wise to keep your employers at arms length imho.

AgentProvocateur · 10/10/2014 21:36

Yes. If you're too sick to clean in your job, you shouldn't be advertising that you're doing it at home. In fact, if you're off sick, you should stay off Facebook.

WorraLiberty · 10/10/2014 21:36

Well it's certainly rubbing it in to your boss isn't it?

CleaningOnSick · 10/10/2014 21:36

Because I lead a boring life :)

Hepzibar · 10/10/2014 21:36

Your boss is right. If my cleaner was off sick and then posted on facebook that her/his house was all clean I'd think they were taking the piss.
And why would you post it on fb? Bizarre.

I think you were a bit. I see your point that you could take it slower and do less than you would have at work. However I think you are on dodgy ground saying anything on FB that indicates you are doing what you would have at work, while you are off sick.

MrsPiggie · 10/10/2014 21:37

What is wrong is befriending your boss on FB. Also seconding NoMoreDelays - why put that on FB, who cares? (apart from your boss, obviously)

paxtecum · 10/10/2014 21:37

I think he does have a point.

If you are too ill to work then surely you should be resting.

Maybe you are sharing too much on FB.

CleaningOnSick · 10/10/2014 21:38

I was off recovering from a major operation. I did send in a copy of my medical notes and all sick notes was from my consultant.

OP posts:
ArgyMargy · 10/10/2014 21:38

Please don't tell me you're FB friends with your boss? If so YABU.

ThePinkOcelot · 10/10/2014 21:41

TBH, I don't understand Facebook at all. Why do people put boring crap like this on it. I mean really, who cares? My friend just recently wished her DH a happy wedding anniversary on there! Why?! I just don't get it. It's a bit like Big Brother, its 8.30am and the housemates are just rousing for the day!

CleaningOnSick · 10/10/2014 21:44

I am Facebook friends with my boss.

No, you weren't wrong to post that. But why on earth is your boss able to see your Facebook?

As SecretSpy says, tighten your security. Unfriend if you can do so without jeopardizing your job.

Another reason I don't 'do' FB!

Comito · 10/10/2014 21:48

FGS. Don't have your boss as FB friends!

I have small number of work colleagues on FB and only those who I have friendships with outside of work. Even they don't get to see everything I post on FB.

Alternatively, don't post every trivial thing on FB.

CleaningOnSick · 10/10/2014 21:54

My boss added me, I felt like I couldn't say no.

I think you are fine to do light cleaning at home while off sick and this is perfectly reasonable.

I think if you put this on facebook it looks bad.

Don't put this shit on facebook while off sick, it will get peoples back up.

Either that or unfriend all your work people!

pictish · 10/10/2014 22:04

In fact, if you're off sick, you should stay off Facebook.
Sorry mum.

CleaningOnSick · 10/10/2014 22:06

I have worked in the same place for 12 years, apart from when I have had a few days off for the flu, never been on the sick.

Hopefully I will not need to be on the sick again, but if I do I will go on a Facebook mute.

OP posts:
WhoDaresWins · 10/10/2014 22:07

When your boss send you a friend request, you should have refused it and said FB is for your personal life.

You can't unfriend him now but learn the lesson for next time - either be careful who you friend or be careful what you write.

pictish · 10/10/2014 22:08

Or just customise it so he can't see anything.

LeezieLindsay · 10/10/2014 22:12

Maybe you should have put" house all clean thanks to DH"
So then your fb friends know you have a clean house and your boss knows you weren't doing heavy cleaning.
