To think Karen Danczuk is right

Sorry, only a dm link

Basically she's the Rochdale councillor, married to an MP who has been in the press recently for the fact she posts selfies on Twitter displaying some cleavage.

She got a slating on Loose Women with Janet Street Porter basically saying that especially with the recent underage/sex abuse scandal in Rochdale she should be setting a better example to young girls.

Which to me sounds like total victim blaming.....that young girls shouldn't be encouraged to wear low cut tops, etc.

Makes no sense at all...I struggle to see the link.

Yanbu!

VivaLeBeaver · 07/10/2014 17:20

Well JSP seems to be implying the girls of Rochdale may follow Karens example and wear low cut tops and then they might be sexually abused. jSP seems to think this will all be Karens fault. Hmm

SpringBreaker · 07/10/2014 17:22

I can see the point that JSP is trying to make. I see selfies posted by young teenage girls all the time, pouting, trying to look older, dressed very age inappropriately. It gives out the wrong message and puts them at risk. If this woman wants to be taken seriously as a politician then maybe she ought to try stopping portraying herself as a page 3 girl.

Abusive men put women/girls at risk.

That is all.

AMumInScotland · 07/10/2014 17:24

Yeah right, the girls in Rochester all got abused because of how they dressed, did they? It couldn't possibly be the fault of men not respecting the rights of women and girls over their own bodies.

squoosh · 07/10/2014 17:25

The entire Loose Women panel should be locked inside a ventilated crate. The nonsense they come out with frazzles my mind.

VivaLeBeaver · 07/10/2014 17:25

If they wanted to have a debate aout whether or not cleavage selfies run the risk of her not been taken seriously as a politician then fair enough. Would have been an intesting debate.

But what they did smacks of victim blaming. Women should be able to wear low cut tops without been at risk.

The way to stop sexual abuse is for men to stop abusing women and girls.

OP posts:
AMumInScotland · 07/10/2014 17:26

Teenage girls have always tried to look older. One of the reasons for having an age of consent is so that men are quite clear that, even if an underage girl looks 'up for it' she isn't old enough to make that choice yet. It is always the responsibility of an adult not to sexually abuse a minor.

And it is always the responsibility of a potential-rapist not to decide to rape someone.

PetulaGordino · 07/10/2014 17:27

whatever your views on women posting pictures of themselves wearing whatever, linking it with the rochdale abuse is appalling

VivaLeBeaver · 07/10/2014 17:27

Good poster.

I just think she wants to have her cake and eat it. On the one hand it's not unreasonable to think that having so much more skin on display than her peers (haven't seen Theresa May with a low cut top on recently) will get her a fair bit of press attention. Am I unkind to suggest she may be doing it for the publicity?

But on the other she knows she can jump the feminist bandwagon and quite rightly remind everyone that she can wear what she likes.

Does she actually have any career achievements to back it up?

And if this was Rihanna with her bits out wouldn't we all be dismissing her as gullible and wishing women could get on without being objectified like this?

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 07/10/2014 17:53

But she is getting her 'bits' out. She has quite large boobs, and short of walking round in a poncho there's not a lot she can do to make them less obvious. She isn't posing for glamour shot in her knickers.

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 07/10/2014 18:02

Sorry, isn't not is

SaucyJack · 07/10/2014 18:07

I would agree with her re: the victim blaming if I wasn't too busy vomiting my dinner up.

"I like to get dressed up on a Friday night, take a selfie. Why not?"

Boak. Is this really what Emily Davison died for?!

Fairylea · 07/10/2014 18:08

I think there are two separate issues.

Linking her taking selfies to the abuse suffered by young girls and attempting to victim blame for dressing a certain way is wrong. A woman should be able to walk down the street completely naked and be safe.

There is, however, an argument that her taking sexualised photos isn't particularly fitting with a professional political career. I would feel the same way if Ed M suddenly started posting photos of himself in a thong on the beach. It's just not fitting with that type of career.

But she was right on loose women re the idea of victim blaming being a vile thing.

formerbabe · 07/10/2014 18:13

I hate the trend for taking selfies.

I struggle to see the link between cleavage baring selfies and the systematic abuse/rape of underage girls.

MrsJossNaylor · 07/10/2014 18:13

Karen Danczuk is a bloody nightmare. Of course the sex abuse scandal in Rochdale isn't her fault, but she's still a terrible example to women trying to be taken seriously in politics.

Also, as anyone who knows politics well will know, the sexy Tweets are the least of it. Mind you, her husband is much worse - he's the one who previously had difficulty remembering how many children he has.

LuckySaint · 07/10/2014 18:19

She's not a very nice person, nor is her wanker of a husband.

They had an affair while she worked for him (he was still married to his first wife)
He left his first wife, and children denying the affair.
But she had a baby a few months later.
And surprise surprise they're playing happy families now Hmm

She knew damn well that he was married.
He's just as bad.

He might be doing good work with the Rochdale stuff, but he's vile.

LuckySaint · 07/10/2014 18:21
Fairylea · 07/10/2014 18:21

You have to wonder if she orchestrated all this media debate on purpose to open up the idea of victim blaming in light of what happened recently.

But maybe that's thinking too deeply.....

SaucyJack · 07/10/2014 18:23

I think she just likes getting her tits out for the lads fairy

Fairylea · 07/10/2014 18:24

Yes probably Grin

AlpacaYourThings · 07/10/2014 18:33

JSP talks some shit, doesn't she?! That Jamelia one isn't much better.

Thick fuckers.

Idontseeanysontarans · 07/10/2014 18:38

They're all as stupid as each other. I wouldn't take any of them seriously. JSP is a special brand of stupid though, using the Rochdale victims to have a pop at any woman daring to bare more flesh than she deems appropriate is quite disgusting. It'll get the Danczuks more attention for their shop though - I bet she mentioned it Grin
