To think Argos are fucking useless?

I entered an Argos competition on FB to win a Furby. Apparently they had 3000 refurbished Furbies in need of a new home.

I won! Excellent. Arrived this morning, addressed to dd. So far so good.

Put the batteries in, and nothing. - doesn't work. Not even a flicker. Hmm

In hindsight maybe I should have checked it first, but considering I has an email last week saying it was being tested and would be here soon I didn't think it necessary.

Unfortunately, I had told dd that our Christmas Elf had sent it for being such a good girl recently and now I look a bit of a twat. There were tears. Sad

Looking on Argos's FB page I am not alone.

Grrrr

yabu for referring to a christmas elf in september. sounds like an utterly stupid idea of argos to hand out second hand electronic toys.

take a daily mail sad face pic of dd and bung it on twitter seems to be the stock answer to these issues

fairgame · 25/09/2014 18:54

Yanbu. Argos are shit. I bought a bike from them last year for DS for xmas. It arrived rusty!! Took 2 weeks and 4 phone calls to get a refund.
Very low of them to send out faulty furby's, I hope your DD is ok.

grocklebox · 25/09/2014 18:58

yabu. christmas elves in september.....just bring it in and they will give you one that works. Its not the end of the world.

CatThiefKeith · 25/09/2014 19:03

I doubt very much they will replace a reconditioned one with a new one.

I am fully aware i am being unreasonable to mention Christmas in September though.Grin

I entered that competition. From what I have heard I was lucky not to win.

Argos are shite though. My parents ordered my DD a bed from there for her 3rd birthday. Birthday is in July so they ordered in May to allow plenty of time for it to get here.

She turned 4 this year. Her bed is from IKEA. The Argos one never turned up, kept showing as "coming soon"...... We canceled it eventually.

They are very rubbish.

A company that can lose track of what they are doing in the 2 seconds between taking payment and printing off a collection slip/receipt, are bound to be rubbish though.

The number of times I've waited 25 minutes+ while they try to figure out how my item got lost on the way from the back room to the shop floor is astounding. I only go in if I am really desperate now.

On the other hand, I've just experienced the best customer service ever from Waitrose Cellar. So my mind, and wine, are at peace tonight Grin

GoldfishSpy · 25/09/2014 19:12

they are utter shite.

would never order from Argos direct again after months of problems.

CatThiefKeith · 25/09/2014 19:17

Percy and MrsC - I'd have been far better off not 'winning' one I think.

There at several people on the FB page saying the same thing. Angry

Last time I used argos, spent about an hour trying to find something in stock, that wasn't delivery only. Was a present for a birthday that day, so looking at toys. Finally found something, and reserved for store collection.. So far so good. Party was at 2. Gift ordered by 9am.. Confirmation said to be collected after 4pm. Not too bad. Just meant had to take gift when collected child... Went to Argos to collect. None of the machines working. Queued up in a ridiculous system where you pay and collect from the same place so no-one knew who was paying or collecting, and lots of arguments.. Finally left at 5 without the item because they couldn't find it.

Oops sorry about the rant lol.. It amazes me how they are still in business.

LittleprincessinGOLDrocks · 25/09/2014 19:35

I have had a few issues with Argos in the past.
The worst one was when they had a deal in their catalogue, where you bought 2 matching wedding rings (his and hers) and only paid for the cheapest. I thought it was a fantastic deal, maybe too good so I double checked with the manager of the store I had read it right. She confirmed I had. So I ordered them in the right size. She printed the order form with the price on as per the catalogue.
So we turn up to collect the rings 3 days later and the sales woman says "Oh no you have to pay full price for both!"
I show her the catalogue - there in black and white it states the offer. She says that she will not honour it.
I say the manager agreed with me when I ordered them. She said tough, that she was shift manager, and she was reporting the error to head office that night.
There were no corrections up on the board (where the other errors were noted).
So we walked out without rings, with a month to go to our wedding day. We could afford them BTW, just refused to spend our money there on principle. We got them from H Samuels instead, and their customer service was a lot better!

After that I only shop there when I really have to.

ImaginaryPoster · 25/09/2014 19:54

I think I may still have the CEOs email address if you would like to email him? He was quiet surprised that I had managed to guess it when Emailed him and corrected my issues straight away.

CatThiefKeith · 25/09/2014 20:14

Ooh yes please, that'd be awesome! Smile

Pm'ed email address. Hope it still works.

StillSquirrelling · 25/09/2014 22:01

I've not had a problem with their customer service, per se, just the shocking quality of their items.

A very long time ago when DH and I were much poorer we ordered a sideboard from Argos to go in our living room. It arrived when it was supposed to but upon getting it out of the box to assemble it, two or three of the panels were split so we phoned and asked what they would do. They said they'd send a new one - don't worry about the old one they said, just chuck it. 2nd one arrived, two or three weeks later, half the pieces seemed to be a completely different colour than the rest. Rang again, they sent out another again. This one took about a month to arrive (not sure why), meanwhile our living room was getting rather full of sideboards. This one came with all the glass panels cracked and the drawer handle holes too far apart for the handles to be screwed into! WTF?

In the end, we got so hacked off with it all that we gathered together enough component parts to cobble together a half decent sideboard, then took all the rest back to Argos for a full refund. Felt a bit guilty about it for a while but whenever I looked at the shitty looking sideboard I felt a bit less bad and replaced it a year later with a much nicer one from Ikea!

Ron99 · 26/09/2014 08:34

YANBU I've had a nightmare week with Argos over a clock!

CatThiefKeith · 26/09/2014 08:50

I feel a right twat now.

Got a phone call this morning, from Argos technician.

"Hello CatthiefKeith, have you tried pressing the reset button?"

No I haven't. Furby now working. BlushBlushBlushBlushBlushBlush

icedfingers · 26/09/2014 09:01

I used to work for them, they are indeed shite Grin

FrancesNiadova · 26/09/2014 09:14

My local Argos staff are totally lovely.
I'm disabled & they always carry items to my car for me.
Last year, my DS went to spend his birthday money on a world cup football. They had sold out, so the woman at the till got on the phone, called another branch not too far away. They had 1 left so they reserved it for him.
Oh, & we never wait more than a couple of minutes for our goods, not even near Xmas.
Can't fault them.
(I also find the Tesco delivery folk totally helpful too. Last year the chap put my turkey straight into the fridge for me! They always help me to unpack!)
