To think Argos are fucking useless?

I entered an Argos competition on FB to win a Furby. Apparently they had 3000 refurbished Furbies in need of a new home.

I won! Excellent. Arrived this morning, addressed to dd. So far so good.

Put the batteries in, and nothing. - doesn't work. Not even a flicker. Hmm

In hindsight maybe I should have checked it first, but considering I has an email last week saying it was being tested and would be here soon I didn't think it necessary.

Unfortunately, I had told dd that our Christmas Elf had sent it for being such a good girl recently and now I look a bit of a twat. There were tears. Sad

Looking on Argos's FB page I am not alone.

Grrrr

It doesn't appear to speak any English, but that's ok, dd is quite happy to learn Furbish apparently!

I've generally not found them to be shite. They've always performed the basic, fairly cheap service I've expected of them each time I've had occasion to use them. They've usually been pretty quick, too.

youmakemydreams · 26/09/2014 14:33

Was going to agree that argos were shit but also suggest the reset button. Grin
I was trying to reserve some stuff for dd's birthday next week so do could collect on his way back from work. Almost everything was home delivery only.
They never ever have anything in stock that is in their sale or clearance section either.

They are going to struggle this Christmas here I think. We have a big smyths toy shop opening in 2 weeks and as argos are already crap and smyths will be shiny and new (and cheaper for the things I want) everyone will be going there.

Andrewofgg · 26/09/2014 20:07

My two local Argos stores have never let me down. Click and reserve, there a bit later, knock in the reservation number and PIN, wait never more than ten minutes and usually less, done. Perhaps I'm just lucky.

youmakemydreams · 26/09/2014 20:47

Tbh the store I use was great until recently but now I can't get anything in there without having to wait 5 days for it to be available to collect or like today absolutely nothing was available it was all home delivery.

Used to shop a lot in argos too becAussie where we are there isn't a huge choice and argos was my go to for loads of things because I could just get them there and then.

misanthropologist · 27/09/2014 02:35

I'm glad you got your Furby to work! They can be hilarious. Back in 2005, the first Christmas after I'd started dating now-DH, his family invited me, DD (then 6) and DS (then 4) to Christmas. His parents bought a Furby for each of the kids and we were all passing them around, asking them to sing songs, talking to them, etc. And then, DS' Furby was passed to my now-MIL. She held it out in front of her, said, "Hi Furby!" and it opened its mouth to say...

"YOU...NO...FUN!"

Commence everyone (especially now-FIL, now-BIL and me, who had been into the bourbon) falling off chairs laughing.

I tried to return something to Argos once.

2 massive boxes were left outside my neighbours house. When he started to get dark (and rain) I took them in to my house and asked ds1 to check which of the guys next door it was for and write him a note to let him know we had them.

The boxes weren't even for our street!

I phoned argos and they refused to come and collect and told me I couldn't really return to a store as I didn't have a receipt.

I told them I only needed them to be collected and delivered to the right house. They said not to worry and that they would send new ones when the customer asked where they were!

CatThiefKeith · 27/09/2014 07:55

Ooh. What was in the boxes?

Stop the argos bashing! Love em! All my white goods, baby stuff, office stuff, gym stuff, so much stuff I'd from there! Cheap and cheerful. Never had a problem with collection or delivery and staff are always willing to help. One even set up my new buggy.

Sallyfreckles · 27/09/2014 09:40

IMO Argos need to up their game, in respect of Amazon etc. We had a gift card to use, so ordered the item I wanted online, got to checkout and they don't accept gift cards online! I thought it was odd there was no number to input. This was especially a pain as the item I wanted was an "online exclusive", so not available instore. Not impressed with that in this day and age, won't bother with them again.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 27/09/2014 09:47

7 weeks ago, Argos had to replace my 11 month old water damaged laptop with a brand new laptop, I now love them for this Grin

IneedAwittierNickname · 27/09/2014 09:53

Exercise bikes. 2 of them :/

FruitbatAuntie · 27/09/2014 12:24

Hmm, I went in Argos on Thursday, and they were busy. Their computer system had gone bonkers and had been calling out random numbers to 'collect your item' at the counter so they'd switched it off and had used their walkie talkies to send orders to the back warehouse and out again. It was working wonderfully - I paid, walked over and my item was there already!

I don't like ordering online from them though, as I was inundated with emails last time despite selecting the boxes for no marketing.

MrsItsNoworNotatAll1 · 28/09/2014 08:10

I find them ok generally but totally useless when I've desperately needed something.

Ordered a single bed that never turned up.

Ordered an oven and was told it would be delivered on December 9th in the morning. When I rang to enquire about its whereabouts I was informed they had no record of it even being ordered.

How? What the actual fuck? I was incredulous, furious and shocked. The woman I spoke to was very apologetic but that didn't exactly help me. I was ovenless and Christmas was looming.

Luckily British Gas were much better and I got one on the 16th.

Lesson learned that. When you need something sharpish don't rely on Argos to have it in stock or even deliver it.

ithoughtofitfirst · 28/09/2014 08:35

That narrows down my 'where do i buy a fridge freezer from TODAY' search.

ArfurFoulkesayke · 28/09/2014 08:36

Never had any problems with our local one, except the time I stupidly went in on Christmas eve. Love that on a normal high street you have access to such a wide range of stuff that you can pick up same day. No risk of "missing the delivery" and having to drive miles to some skanky depot in the arse-end of nowhere. Their stock-holding is their selling point though, and if people are finding that a problem, why wouldn't you buy elsewhere?

bloodyteenagers · 28/09/2014 11:37

Try ao.com for your fridge freezer. Have had quiet a few things from there and no problems.

furcoatbigknickers · 28/09/2014 11:39

Just tell dd the elves will fix it, get another one.

Damnautocorrect · 28/09/2014 11:41

Funny, I've had nothing but crap stuff and even worse customer service in argos lately. They just shrug and look at me gormelessly like they don't give a shit. I've an on going case with head office, head office say one thing local store another, and now in stuck!

StrippedPJs · 28/09/2014 12:01

I won one of them furbys and mines okay. However when they delivered our right hand corner sofa they delivered a right hand part and a left hand part and couldn't understand why I needed the left hand piece replaced HmmHmmHmm

Hulababy · 28/09/2014 12:17

Came on to ask if you'd tried the reset - you have to do that after changing batteries ime. Though it doesn't forget the phase your Furby is at iirr.

The Furby should learn more English the more it is used.

Hulababy · 28/09/2014 12:20

Fingers crossed re Argos now though as I have just ordered DD a bed to be delivered on 18 October.

Never bought a big item from them before - only smaller appliances and toys really. Never had any issues before, though not sure Ive ever had a delivery from them before.

So fingers crossed - exact same bed was cheaper from there than other places though.
