I really need urgent advice...We live in a flat -paying private landlord.
There are other 3 flats (2 bed ,three bed) and rest are studio flats with very problematic people.
They are from the same country, chewing some grass and spitting it on the floor, smoking in the hall and most weekend music is until 4 am.Honestly that's nothing,I could write the whole book.
This morning,I was going to take my DD to school and they broke entry door and we can't come out.It happened before but never that we are stuck.
We called LL and first he didn't want to deal with it then he said someone will come through the day.I am fuming.
Please can you tell me can I call anyone in the council in connection with this situation.I really don't know what to do?!
My DD is sitting here can' leave the building ..
Please advice me.
Thank you

I'd ring 101. What if there's a fire?

gininteacupsandleavesonthelawn · 23/09/2014 09:17

I'd call 101, if there's a fire you're stuck. Hope you get out ok

EmmaGellerGreen · 23/09/2014 09:17

Try the fire brigade?

UncrushedParsley · 23/09/2014 09:17

Can you call the Police non-emergency no and ask for advice?

londonrach · 23/09/2014 09:18

Phone the police. You sound like a hostage. Only problem with that is you be looking for a new flat but under these circumstances maybe thats what you should be doing. Hope you both ok. Why cant you get out is it the door or them stopping you. X

NoodleFace · 23/09/2014 09:18

Is there a fire door you can use to get out?

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 23/09/2014 09:21

Its a fire hazard as others say. You could also try the Residential Environmental Health team in the council.

You can ring Shelter for more advice too

No fire door. It's not them stopping me ,they actually broke the handle and rest of the system inside it is broken. They are really animals.Really are!!!
My DH is going to call 101. Will let you know..
I am really upset ,really.

I'd phone the police and the environmental health team at your local council.

Thymeout · 23/09/2014 09:23

When my toddler locked himself in the bathroom, I dialled 999 and the fire brigade came and released him. Sounds a bit over-dramatic, but they didn't complain. You are effectively trapped in a building with a child.

Worth a try anyway.

DrCarolineTodd · 23/09/2014 09:25

And call Shelter for legal advice as they know their stuff.

lupo5 · 23/09/2014 09:30

101 told my DH to call LL again.
Not a great help....I am actually sitting and crying because I can't do anything atm.

londonrach · 23/09/2014 09:35

(((Hugs))) it will be sorted. X

Momagain1 · 23/09/2014 09:37

Dont call 101. Call 999. You are trapped in the building. It is no longer a maintenance issue.

IrishBloodEnglishHeart · 23/09/2014 09:39

Try calling Shelter. I have had some great advice from them in the past. Really, do it now. Your landlord sounds like an idiot, if I had people trapped in my building I would be round there like greased weasel poop to get them out. Ring him and tell him that if you all burn in a fire it's his ass in the dock.

henless · 23/09/2014 09:46

Definitely call the fire brigade. I called them when DS was stuck in a shop toilet once and they came straight away. You're effectively trapped in the building - they won't think it's a waste of time.

henless · 23/09/2014 09:47

Plus your child has to get to school!

lupo5 · 23/09/2014 09:48

My neighbours wife called her DH to come from work to try to open the door from outside. He is not far away from here so I hope that he will manage to do something.
Its madness the situation we are in!! We actually can't come out.
I asked her how did he come out -she said when he left everything was ok.He leaves very early according to her (5am).
Even if he opens or someone appears to fix it,what should I do and complain about whole situation?
Is it the council or some other organization-I am fed up.
At this state I am ,every kind of thoughts are going through my mind-they might be even criminals living here or terrorist's because no normal person/people would be doing this.
They are not civilized and lately,on top of everything every friday they are almost making ground floor as their way of worship.I don't mind in such but don't be on my way and make it clear tat I should be quiet. They should go in their studio flats-not my problem there are 10 of them in the studio...
Sorry about the rant-I am furious.....

Your landlord is certainly breaking the law. I agree with phoning police as you shouldn't be trapped in a building. You could go to the council and see if they can re-house you as the place you are staying in isn't safe.

lupo5 · 23/09/2014 09:52

Sorry for spelling and language,I am furious.
LL is now not answering...it's so predictable.
Sad And it's my DD 10 B'day.(not relevant to the story but for me it is)
I have another 8 weeks to go with third baby and I am not thinking rationally.
Thank you all for such a lovely advices...Flowers

Call the fire brigade! Now! You cannot stay in a building that you can't get out of.

lupo5 · 23/09/2014 09:55

Vivien,I don't live in a council flat.We are paying for it and I know other three families are also private tenants.Rest of them are paid by council. They are the ones who should be on tv making this country going down.
How council could help?
Thank you.

OP posts:
JustSpeakSense · 23/09/2014 09:57

Call the fire brigade.

Sunna · 23/09/2014 09:57

I agree. Call the fire brigade. Your LL will get the bill and serve him right.

The fire brigade may also have a word with him about the situation.
