To be in love with gas and air

Had DS1 (dc3) last week. After having first two with epidurals, DS was coming too quick so my only option was gas and air. It was awesome. I have no recollection of any pain and was high as a kite. I almost want another one just to get off my face on it againGrinConfused

That is all Wink

Yanbu. Every home should have it (I think it's bloody marvellous stuff and was allowed to get literally off my face on it)

maggiethemagpie · 04/09/2014 19:14

Well it's not illegal to buy the gas (nitrous oxide). My local offy sells them in cream chargers next to the cut price cider.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 04/09/2014 19:17

I've had it for leg fracture reduction in the field. Not as good as ether and I tend to swear uncontrollably as it wears off.

morethanlaundry · 04/09/2014 19:17

I always thought gas and air should be provided for pregnant women for any situation where others were drinking.

Boozy wedding reception? Gas and air!

Quiz night down the local? Gas and air!

Big night out? Gas and air!

Muddlewitch · 04/09/2014 19:18

I agree it's fab stuff, should be given as part of the take home pack when you have a baby to get you through those 18 years early days.

Velve · 04/09/2014 19:18

YANBU. I'm envious.

I hate the stuff, it made me projectile vomit. Exorcist style.

silverten · 04/09/2014 19:19

I wholeheartedly agree. It's fan-fucking-tastic.

ikeaismylocal · 04/09/2014 19:19

I loved gas and air! I slurred to my midwife that they should sell it in the alcohol section of the supermarket.

I did see aliens which was quite scary, but it took my mind off the fact a person was coming out of my vagina.

poolomoomon · 04/09/2014 19:22

It made my voice go all Alan Rickman. For that reason alone I detest the stuff. Grin

EatDessertFirst · 04/09/2014 19:22

I remeber giggling about a fox carrying a beer can we saw on the drive to the hospital.
And trying to get DP to 'have a blow on this, this shit is great!'

Love that stuff.

Pickofthepops · 04/09/2014 19:26

Another vote for g&a. Hope to have it for dc2 due in a month. With Ds For a second I thought I was i was being treated at our vets but otherwise great stuff. Until dh kindly told midwife he thought I'd had enough. The nerve if it. He'd better not try that this time!

ILovePud · 04/09/2014 19:27

This that has made me laugh. YANBU, I looked forward to it on the drives to hospital. It made me projectile vomit and sound like Alan Rickman too but that wasn't enough to put me off, the midwife had to take it off me.

KellyElly · 04/09/2014 19:31

God, it did absolutely nothing for me and started hurting my throat after a while. I needed an epidural! Wouldn't mind trying it on a recreational basis though Grin

moonfacebaby · 04/09/2014 19:32

Tis bloody fantastic stuff - I ended up putting one of those cardboard sick bowls on my head, then claimed it was to protect me from the forces of evil.....cue midwife & H looking at me with an "oooookkkkkaaaayyyy" expression on their faces.

Didn't stop the pain from the big contractions though....

allisgood1 · 04/09/2014 19:33

I believe a midwife attempted to take it off me and I screamed until she have it back. After that I knew to listen when they said "have a few breaths of fresh air" for fear if I dint they might try and take it again. Oh and dh had several goes once I had baby and didn't need it anymore.

Oramorph is my favourite! much nicer than any of the other stuff they give you.

Baaaaaaaaaaaa · 04/09/2014 19:38

I've had it three times for three deliveries, brilliant stuff, thoroughly recommended.

XiCi · 04/09/2014 19:40

God, I loved it. Went from being in complete agony to high as a kite ready to rave in a matter of minutes. I think they sell it online but not in the quantities I'd like Grin

runningonwillpower · 04/09/2014 19:40

Gas and air was ok.

Now Pethidine - that's serious shit.

Andrewofgg · 04/09/2014 19:41

Allisgood1 I obviously have no personal experience (though I do remember how good it was for DW when DS joined out species) but in ane event congratulations Flowers

furcoatbigknickers · 04/09/2014 19:41

I agree... Far better than an epi. off to check if any friends need a birth partnerGrin

furcoatbigknickers · 04/09/2014 19:42

I overdosed blacked out

ElectricalBanana · 04/09/2014 19:44

I had a gynae op under a spinal a few weeks ago. It started to 'pinch' a bit and I told the anaesthetist. Within seconds a mask was passed to me and I was instructed to toot on it. And toot I did!

I looked at the doc and said the last time I had this stuff I was told the head was showing and baby was nearly here ... 22 yrs ago! I forgot how bloody good it was. I also told him it was "good shit" which made everyone laugh.

10 yrs ago I was the theatre sister in that theatre...... I knew everybody!

Pippin8 · 04/09/2014 19:48

Haha, it is fab & highly underrated in my opinion. I had it both times & really wanted it piped in through the wall at home.

I work in midwifery & I love hearing the funny things womens say when they're high as a kite.

londonrach · 04/09/2014 19:50

Congratulations x
