To be in love with gas and air

allisgood1 · 04/09/2014 19:10

Had DS1 (dc3) last week. After having first two with epidurals, DS was coming too quick so my only option was gas and air. It was awesome. I have no recollection of any pain and was high as a kite. I almost want another one just to get off my face on it againGrinConfused

That is all Wink

Love a bit of gas and air. Marvellous stuff.

Ludways · 04/09/2014 19:53

The only reason I got pg a second time was so I could have some more, excellent stuff.

I was off my face!

MagpieMama · 04/09/2014 19:53

Love it, love it, love it!! Grin

plumnc · 04/09/2014 19:57

You are so nbu! Love the stuff,

LumpenproletariatAndProud · 04/09/2014 19:58

I love it. On a regular basis I wish I could have a canister of it to hand. I mean, there's no addiction, no hangover.

When I was being stitched up I was sucking on it (didnt need it, I was numb, but I knew full well Id had my last child and this was my last opportunity) without a break and I had tiny cartoon characters dancing over a rainbow in front of me singing in really high pitched voices. I took the mouth piece away to concentrate on them but the second I stopped sucking the were gone.
I got back on it trying to get those crazy swines back but they never came.

I really, truly, love gas and air.

Is 'laughing gas' the same stuff? Because I tried that once and it just didnt feel like the same stuff I had when I was in labour? Presumably the labour bit changes the whole process quite a lot though.

elsbethy · 04/09/2014 20:00

I think I did the g&a wrong with my first labour, because it didn't seem to help at all.

Had my second baby recently and wow. Just wow. I told DH I loved him in the middle of a contraction because I was so off my face. Fantastic stuff. I still remember it fondly several months on.

Teddybeau1988 · 04/09/2014 20:02

Yanbu

Great stuff. I went from writhing in agony to giggling after a few lungfulls. According to DH at one point I pulled the plastic mouthpiece off the tube and started screaming at the mw to 'f'ing fix it' as I panicked

OOAOML · 04/09/2014 20:04

I didn't find it that good in my first labour when I was really tense. Second time round I turned up at the hospital ready to push, and took a whacking great lungful as soon as I was given it, it was like being instantly drunk. I can only conclude I wasn't taking enough first time round.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 04/09/2014 20:05

I would like a quick blast every day. The world would be a happier place.

lk26 · 04/09/2014 20:09

Stuff of gods ! I had sooo much that when I was being stitched up after dd2 I asked the midwife to stitch me up tighter to make me like a virgin again ! Cringe. My OH nearly died !

IHeartLockhart · 04/09/2014 20:11

Yanbu, it's the best thing ever invented!
Didn't like it too much with DS1 and ended up having an epidural.
2nd time round it really did the job, I didn't half get in the zone.

ithoughtofitfirst · 04/09/2014 20:13

Alan Rickman! Grin

I think my mum kept shoving it in my mouth to stop me from swearing (she works on the ward)

"Ffffffffffffffuuuuuuuu"

"quick suck on this!!!"

Pico2 · 04/09/2014 20:14

I loved G&A. So much that they had to disconnect it and leave me with the mouthpiece as I wouldn't let go. It is the only part of a VB I'll miss as I'm having an ELCS this time.

IHeartLockhart · 04/09/2014 20:14

Congratulations btw Flowers

5madthings · 04/09/2014 20:15

Yanbu I bloody love gas and air, it us fantastic stuff. When having ds2? Or ds3 I raved to the midwife that it was just like smoking a spliff. Dp was like 'shut up' Grin

Imsuchamess · 04/09/2014 20:15

Am grinning at some of these I loved the stuff personally but I was uncontrollably giggling too much too say anything coherent.

FantasticButtocks · 04/09/2014 20:17

When I had my second baby at home I ran out of gas and air! Shock Had to go fucking ages 20 minutes without while the 2nd midwife who had just turned up with an empty canister Shock was sent off to get some more, with me shouting 'drive fast!' at her as she left. Traumatic.

Tis lovely stuff Grin

TheRealNightsWatch · 04/09/2014 20:18

Ooh I flipping loved gas and air.

I think everyday would just be a wee bitty easier if you could have the occasional blast on the G&A!

"What's that you say DS? You've lost your new school shoes?"

...Inhale a shit load of gas...

"Not a problem my darling!" Grin

Cavort · 04/09/2014 20:28

Aww I want to feel some of this G&A love! I'm jealous of everyone else's good experiences.

I presume I was doing something wrong as it did nothing for me. I still felt like I was splitting in two only after G&A I was splitting in two with a mouth full of feathers. Hmm Pethidine also did sweet FA. An epidural was my saviour.

bruffin · 04/09/2014 20:32

Every time I have had it I have thrown up (dentist and pregnancy) I have thrown up. When I had dd I had one whiff and threw up so had no pain relief at all.

ashtrayheart · 04/09/2014 20:33

I'm in agony with sciatica right now, I reckon g&a might help!

PiperIsOrange · 04/09/2014 20:35

I loved the stuff.

bedhaven · 04/09/2014 20:35

It's very popular with the clubbers these days, I think the term is Hippy crack! I rather enjoyed my legitimate usage with both births.

Littlef00t · 04/09/2014 20:40

Bruffin, I threw up profusely after a swig and sent them off to check out other pain relief options. While they were gone I had another go and it worked thank goodness. Was sad when they explained I was only supposed to be sucking on it when I was having a contraction.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 04/09/2014 20:48

It's shit,I don't know how it helps anyone have a babyConfused

I had tons of the stuff when I had an accident, it did nothing, neither did the huge shot of morphine...at that point the paramedic looked a bit worriedGrin

Glad you liked it OP and congratsSmile Thanks
