There's a woman on twitter talking about the ice bucket challenge. She makes the point that the companies who make ice cubes must be raking it in because everyone is buying ice. In her video she has challenged the ice companies to donate some of their profits to charity.

Whatever you think about the challenge you must admit she has a very good point. #nameyouricecompany

Don't most people make their own ice? Even when I was growing up in the '60s, most fridges had at least a freezer compartment (albeit tiny) where you could make a tray of ice cubes.

teeththief · 25/08/2014 23:17

We made our own ice cubes...surely most people have done that Confused

Who the hell buys ice cubes?!

Dh buys ice cubes.

JeanSeberg · 25/08/2014 23:21

What's wrong with buying ice cubes? £1 a bag for much more than you could fit in my small freezer and perfect for parties etc.

trixymalixy · 25/08/2014 23:23

I tried to buy some ice. 3 supermarkets all had bare sections in their freezers where the ice should be.

Clr2014 · 25/08/2014 23:23

I think similar at children in need day with all the pjs / onesies to school- Primark is stowed out the night before...

Namechngedforthis · 25/08/2014 23:25

Exactly trixy. They must be making a small fortune.

I think it's a great idea.

We buy ice for £1 per bag here.

strawberryangel · 25/08/2014 23:27

I would only buy ice for a big party- I'd deffo make my own if I was pouring it over my own head- It'll be one small tray!

Namechngedforthis · 25/08/2014 23:28

I've never re-tweeted anything before, (I'm not exactly the best twitterer in the world) but I think I'll do it for this.

When the weather was really hot, we (a family of 5) were getting through a whole bag in about 8 or 9 days.

That's way more than we could have frozen ourselves.

strawberryangel · 25/08/2014 23:33

Would that not just be a couple of trays a day, Worra?

(I'm not wanting a row about ice cubes, honest Grin )

HeySoulSister · 25/08/2014 23:34

So I know we can get ice from sainsburys and Iceland. Not sure of the 'brand'

Namechngedforthis · 25/08/2014 23:35

In the video she shows the bag, it's got the brand name on.

teeththief · 25/08/2014 23:35

LOL strawberryangel I'm the same! I can't believe I'm disputing ice cube usage Grin But we managed with our small freezer and 3 ice cube trays when the weather was hot!

I didn't even know you could buy ice cubes. Seems like madness but fair play to the companies who sell them to people who obviously have teeny tiny freezers!

PenisesAreNotPink · 25/08/2014 23:36

Vanilla Ice should really be coughing up too .....

strawberryangel · 25/08/2014 23:37

But...you'd need to keep them in the freezer anyway, so if it was tiny you couldn't buy ice!

However, for a quid I'm thinking it's not such a bad idea- saves the faffing I suppose.

strawberryangel · 25/08/2014 23:37

LOL at penisesarepink. I agree.

LatteLoverLovesLattes · 25/08/2014 23:38

I buy ice cubes - they taste nicer than ice made in the freezer. I'm the only one that uses them and I go through at least one bag a week - I'm naughty and chomp on it Grin

I buy mine at Waitrose 1 bag.

I'd buy it to do the challenge too, if I was going to do it, which I'm not.

But I do have the recipie if anyone wants it.

OldLadyKnowsSomething · 25/08/2014 23:38

I can see buying ice for big parties, but if you buy more than can fit in your freezer, doesn't it, erm, sort of melt?

teeththief · 25/08/2014 23:40

But I do have the recipie if anyone wants it Grin

LatteLoverLovesLattes · 25/08/2014 23:40

^ The recipe = old family joke. Before anyone starts getting all weird.
