Just had car valeted, had to give colleague a lift. Car is new and shiny and smells clean.

Colleague scrapes her feet on the newly cleaned mats saying 'oh my god they are so slippy' until filth from her shoes are all over the car. Then lights a fag and my lovely car smells of smoke now.

Aibu to think it's just ignorant?

That is soooo rude!! Who does she think she is.

The mat things irritating, but not much you can do there. The lighting up a cigarette is bloody rude though!!! If someone lit up in my car without asking first, they'd find themselves at the side of the road!!

If anyone tried to smoke in my car, they would be walking home! Did she ask first?

If you're driving around for work then your employer should have a policy about driving/cars/smoking/and so on.

YANBU - but you need to tell her there's no smoking before you give her another lift.

I would choose not to give lifts any more but you are stuck. If you do not feel like asking her not to smoke, what anout a notice saying 'No Smoking, Please' and pointing it out.

Anyway, I thought that smoking in cars was known to be undesirable including business trips.

She'd be told to get out of the car and walk.

It wasn't just rude - it was a blatent display of status, ie, Im more powerful and important than you and I don't give a feck about you.

The next time you feel obliged to give her a lift have a firm sounding speech first and tell her there is no smoking in your car.. before she gets anywhere near it.

I would never ever light up in a none smokers car even if they said I could. If the drivers smoking then fair dos.

Your employer can't force you to give a colleague lifts.
You don't have to let anyone smoke in your car.
It's up to you what you do about it in future.

If she intimidates you, but you can't avoid her as you normally would because she's a colleague then this is something for your employer to sort.

You don't "have to" give her lifts because she doesn't drive. If not being able to get herself from A to B interferes with her ability to do her job, that's for her (and possibly your employers) to sort out.
